  • The objective of this study is to propose a Korean medical rehabilitation protocol for total knee replacement (TKR) and to report its effectiveness. This study was conducted as a retrospective study which analyzes the medical records of 4 patients undergoing Korean medical rehabilitation with protocol and continuous passive motion exercise for more than two weeks after TKR. We evaluated the outcome checking physical examination findings of the knee joint, numeric rating scale (NRS), Lysholm knee score (LKS) and walking state. After the treatment, we observed that the function of knee joint, NRS, LKS, walking state of patients were improved. This study showed that Korean medical rehabilitation protocol has effect on knee joint recovery after TKR. The limitation of this study was the insufficient number of cases and short-term follow up. Further studies should be done steadily to report the effectiveness of a Korean Medical rehabilitation protocol for TKR.

  • Objective This study aims to understand the actual utilization of the oriental rehabilitation medicine center of the initial interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center and to arrange proper development plans for more effective interdisciplinary medical services for future activation of interdisciplinary medical care. Method: The interdisciplinary patient status, composition of patient care, and major disease-related status were studied and analyzed for oriental rehabilitation medication relating to interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary status and its operating conditions were evaluated to devise a development plan for the National Rehabilitation Center. Results: As a result of the analysis of oriental rehabilitation medical care diagnosing status utilization at the National Rehabilitation Center regarding interdisciplinary medical care, the ratio of the number of those receiving interdisciplinary oriental rehabilitation medical care was less than half of the total receiving interdisciplinary care. As the major disease status from the patients of interdisciplinary care, stroke patients covered the large majority, and musculoskeletal pain patients covered the majority of outpatients. The establishment of additional oriental medication departments and assigning of interdisciplinary coordinators were presented as the goals of a development plan for the manpower and structural side of interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center. On the institutional and systematic side, improvement in the interdisciplinary hierarchy and interdisciplinary model development based on the number of patients per disease was proposed. In addition, operation on ward bedding and construction of interdisciplinary EMR medical care is necessary on the medical and administration service side. Conclusion: To understand the actual utilization and to arrange development plans aimed at constructing a safe and effective interdisciplinary hierarchy for interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center, patient-centered care needs to be implemented.

  • Background: Physiatrists are facing with survivors from disasters in both the acute and chronic phases of muscle and nerve injuries. Similar to many other clinical conditions, neuromusculoskeletal ultrasound can play a key role in the management of such cases (with various muscle/nerve injuries) as well. Accordingly, in this article, a recent single-center experience after the Turkey-Syria earthquake will be rendered. Methods: Ultrasound examinations were performed for various nerve/muscle lesions in 52 earthquake victims referred from different cities. Demographic features, type of injuries, and applied treatment procedures as well as detailed ultrasonographic findings are illustrated. Results: Of the 52 patients, 19 had incomplete peripheral nerve lesions of the brachial plexus (n=4), lumbosacral plexus (n=1), and upper and lower limbs (n=14). Conclusion: The ultrasonographic approach during disaster relief is paramount as regards subacute and chronic phases of rehabilitation. Considering technological advances (e.g., portable machines), the use of on-site ultrasound examination in the (very) early phases of disaster response also needs to be on the agenda of medical personnel.

All of the children admitted in the children's rehabilitation centers are the crippled children. The ratio of boys io girls is three to two. Boys are more than girls. Orphan formed 55.2 per sent of them. About 60 per cent of them is receiving medical attention free of charge. But there is no orphan in Crippled Children's Center, Yonsei University Medical Center. 3. 15.7 per cent of them have received the previous medical attention before their admitting in the centers; in Sam Yook Children's Rehabilitation Center 8.6 percent, Crippled Children's Center, Yonsei University Medical Center 50 percent; there is remarkable difference between the two. 4. But it is desired to improve and cultivate the vocational training, vocational guidance and special nursing to the insufficiency of their implementation. In the tendency that the rehabilitation and welfare for the handicapped are today emphasized, International Handicapped Rehabilitation Association, declaring that 1970s are the decade of rehabilitation, urged to improve positively the policy of rehabilitation and welfare for the handicapped. But here in korea the handicapped, being the object of social prejudice, ignorance, disdain lives in obscurity. Therefore the government or the community should draw up countermeasure on social under-standing, financial support, and rehabilitation services for the handicapped as well as should endeavor to make them participate in social activities as the productive total- person though they are physically imperfect.

  • The objective of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean medical rehabilitation for total knee replacement. Three female patients who had total knee replacement were treated by Korean medical rehabilitation with protocol. We evaluated the consequences by checking numeric rating scale (NRS), Lysholm knee score, physical examination of knee joint and walking state. After Korean medical rehabilitation, we find out that the pain and function were improved. NRS, Lysholm knee score, physical examination of knee joint, walking state of patients were also improved. Korean medical rehabilitation can be effectively used for total knee replacement patients. There is a limit that this study hasn't sufficient number of cases. Further studies are needed to set up a Korean medical rehabilitation protocol.
