This paper summarizes the concept of medical professionalism and presents its direction. Toward this end, the authors compare the characteristics of a professional with those of a craftsman and a technician. The authors describe the construct of medical professionalism on the assumption that knowledge and technical competence are necessary but not sufficient conditions for the professional. The construct of medical professionalism could be defined variously, depending on the time, place, or collectivity. The authors furthermore summarize cases for the development process of medical professionalism and then compare Korean medical professionalism with that of the West. Finally, the authors present the development direction of medical professionalism in Korea.

Purpose: The first responder's role during a cardiac arrest scene is to initiate CPR. The AHA has recognized and included the first responder's role for improving the survival rate of cardiac arrest patients. Health personnel working in nursing, emergency care, dental hygiene, radiology, and ocular optics frequently confront sudden cardiac arrest while working. This study was to identify the relationship between the educational experience and recognition with the level of knowledge about CPR for college students. Method: Five hundred forty college students enrolled in the department of nursing science, radiological technology, ocular optics, emergency medical technician, or dental hygiene in Daejeon city were surveyed. The tool used was CPR knowledge developed by the authors based on a literature review including 2005 AHA's CPR guideline. Result: The higher educational experience of CPR was, the higher the level of knowledge. The knowledge of the students in nursing or emergency medical technician was higher than students in dental hygiene, radiology, and ocular optics. Conclusion: CPR class should be included in the curriculum for college students in order to improve their accuracy as a first responder to cardiac arresting patients.

Purpose: The purpose of our study was to introduce an oath and ethics code for emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: The proposed oath and ethics code for the EMTs was evaluated using a modified Delphi technique. This oath and ethics code was presented at Korean association of emergency medical technician conference and was revised by experts in emergency medical services. Results: We examined the ethics codes for other allied healthcare professionals regarding the topics of human rights, health promotion, acting as an advocate, ethics, cooperation, observance, human rights, right to know, self-determination, confidentiality, and professionalism. These elements are reflected in our proposed oath and ethics code for EMTs. Conclusion: The proposed oath and ethics code would raise the professional status of EMTs.

본 연구는 국내 방사선사와 고가의료장비의 분포 현황과 증가 추이를 조사하여 방사선사 수급 계획 및 대학생들의 취업 상담 등을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 수행되었으며, 관련 협회 및 국가기관 등에서 제공하는 자료를 2014년 8월부터 9월까지 조사하여 활용하였다. 조사결과 국내 요양기관에서 근무하는 방사선사는 2014년 현재 총 18,988명, 인구 10만 명당 37.3명으로 전년 대비 계속 증가하고 있는 추세로 확인되었으나 매년 방사선사 면허취득자 보다 적은 수였다. 고가의료장비의 분포 현황은 2014년 기준 CT 총 1,873대로 전년대비 감소하였고, MRI와 PET는 각각 1,261대와 207대로 전년대비 증가하였으나 증가 폭이 감소하고 있어 고가의료장비의 증가 추세는 둔화될 것으로 사료된다. 앞으로 방사선사들이 일할 수 있는 다양한 일자리 창출과 함께 질적인 향상은 물론 방사선사 인력 현황의 꾸준한 모니터링이 필요할 것이다.

This study examines and analyzes EMTs works in hospital with 48 subjects working for hospitals at partial areas. It aims to provide basic materials for practice-centered learning to students at Dept. of Emergency Care and information of roles of EMTs. As a result of study, it was found that EMTs works included classification of severity of patients when they came to hosptial, supervision and move of serious case, move of patients and a member of cardiopulmonary resuscitation team as well as filling empty of medical staff and playing medical assistant under direct control of doctors and they played important roles in medical examination. These results showed that EMTs could extend their areas of service within hospital and they could have a positive influence on their seniors' employment.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the work and job satisfaction of military emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: We selected 122 military EMTs who participated in the refresher education in 2012. This study was conducted from November 12 to December 21, 2012. Results: The most frequent duties of military EMTs were scene assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, surgical treatment, prehospital first-aid, transfer to the hospital, education, and call response. The air force and navy EMTs had better performance than the army EMTs. As for job satisfaction, the work itself ranked highest, whereas payment ranked lowest. Conclusion: The scope of the work of the military EMTs varied in the 14 fields of work but should be considered for further evaluation. In order to increase the job satisfaction of EMTs, their work conditions should be improved such as through salary increase and extra pay for those with professional certificates.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the knowledge and attitudes regarding adverse drug reactions (ADR) of emergency medical services (EMS) students, so that suggestions for further education on ADR can be made. Methods: A survey on knowledge and attitude was created and modified according to Lee's and Kim's test tool. In total, 149 students' data were collected and compared with previous studies. Results: Knowledge of ADR was relatively low (54%) but attitude was relatively high (75%). Clinical experience was important in knowledge and attitude. Knowledge and attitude showed a positive correlation. Conclusion: Increased knowledge of ADR leads to a more active attitude towards it. Hence, modification of the education system to provide a more personalized education is required.

This study aims to examine the relative importance of various tasks of EMT and to examine knowledge level and problems associated with AED. It is based on the survey of paramedics and 119 rescures. The results for this study were as follows ; Among the tasks of EMT, 'foreignbody removal from mouth' were rated as the most important, followed by '$O_2$ supply', 'CPR', 'Intubation for CPR', '$O_2$ supply' were rates as the most necessary, followed by 'foreignbody removal from mouth', 'external bleeding control'. In terms of the knowledge level about AED, survey respondents are most knowledgeable about 'role of other rescures during the preparation for AED' and 'treatment after 3 AEDS. The most important reason that the uses of AED is delayed is 'unclear boundary of treatment directed by medical control'. The results of the study suggest that we need guideline for EMT's tasks, efficient communication system between 119 and emergency health are center for prompt AED, and training and education program for AED.

Purpose: The study was a qualitative study to examine the synchronous and asynchronous distanced learning experience of online paramedic students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The subjects included 10 students enrolled in the department of emergency medical service at J City C University. Written consent was provided by the subjects prior to the study, and focus group interviews were then conducted with sufficient explanation. The interviews were recorded and were directly transcribed immediately after the interview. Research results were then derived through content analysis. Results: A total of 4 domains and 9 categories were derived from the experiences of paramedic students on distanced learning. The 4 domains included "distanced lectures type," "student's adaptation and non-adaptation," "change of evaluation," and "learning anxiety." Conclusion: Contents of each domain derived from this study are expected to be used as basic data for the design of the distanced learning in the future.

본 연구의 목적은 임상병리 전공 유사 취업연계가 가능한 다양한 자격증을 조사하고 취득 방법과 활용 여부를 알아보고자 하였다. 전공 외 취업 연계 가능 자격은 산업보건지도사, 도핑검사관, 청각관리사. 수화통역사, 보건교육사, 손해사정사, 생명보험 언더라이터, 행정관리사, 병원행정사, 보험심사관리사, 병원코디네이터 등이 있다. 임상병리기술학 전공 유사 관련 진출자격 현황으로는 임상시험코디네이터, 임상시험 모니터요원, 해부조직사, 화학분석기사, 위험물산업기사, 생물공학기사, 생물안전관리자, 생명공학기술지도사, 의료기기품질책임자, 실험동물기술원, 동물간호복지사, 선박의료관리자가 있다. 따라서, 임상병리사들이 현재 보유하고 있는 다양한 자격 현황의 사회분석조사가 필요할 것이며, 임상병리사 출신으로 다른 분야에서 근무하고 있는 현황조사도 필요할 것이다. 향후, 임상병리사는 개인의 업무역량 강화의 노력을 통하여 업무적 범위를 확대시키고, 사례를 공유하여 영역 확대와 전문성을 강화해야 할 것이라고 생각한다.
