  • Due to the 4th industrial revolution and an aged society, many studies are being conducted to apply virtual reality to medical field. Research on dementia is especially active. This paper proposes virtual reality based on cognitive rehabilitation contents using image recognition and clustering method to improve cognitive and physical disabilities caused by dementia. Unlike the existing cognitive rehabilitation system, this paper uses travel photos that reflect the memories of the subjects to be treated. In order to generate automated cognitive rehabilitation contents, we extract face information, food pictures, place information, and time information from photographs, and normalization is performed for clustering. And we present scenarios that can be used as cognitive rehabilitation contents using travel photos in virtual reality space.

  • The purpose of this study was to identity effects of virtual reality(VR) program related to standing postural control on balance, gait and brain activation patterns in chronic hemiplegic stroke patients. Subjects were assigned randomly to either VR group (n=12) or the control group (n=12) when the study began. Both groups received conventional physical therapy for 2 to 3 times per week. In addition to conventional physical therapies, VR group trained 3 types of virtual reality programs using IREX for standing postural control during 4 weeks (4 times/week, 30 minutes/time). Subjects were assessed for static and dynamic balance parameters using BPM, functional balance using Berg Balance Scale related to movement of paretic lower limb before and after 4 weeks of virtual reality training. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Following VR training, VR group demonstrated the marked improvement on dynamic mean balance, anteroposterior limits of stability (AP angle) and mediolateral limits of stability (ML angle). 2. Following VR training, both groups scored higher on Berg Balance Scale. However, a comparison of mean change revealed differences between groups. In conclusion, these data suggest that the postural control training using VR programs improve dynamic and functional balance performance in chronic hemiplegic stroke patients.

  • Digital convergence era has been already started and is rapidly developed. Recently, convergency technology became an essential issue in all industries, and is expected to accelerate. This means that we can experience growth and change of architecture using new technology and approaching method. The AR (Augmented Reality) technology, among these convergence technology, is a kind of virtual reality technology that user can see a scene of real world which is overlapped by virtual world with additional information. It has been used in manufacturing and management in the whole industry fields including medical, mechanical, military field and so on because it can provide higher sense of reality. Thus, in this paper, we suggest the utilization of AR technology for organically connecting the roads, facilities, green area, landscape and others in the layout planning of housing complex. Users can see real world with virtual object by overlap computer graphic on the real world. This method provides users with various information about territoriality and openness. As the result of this study it is expected that this technology will help the layout planning of housing complex to become more reasonable in the aspect of design, time and cost.

  • Recently computer graphic technology has achieved remarkable development. Applications of this technology to various fields are expected. In this study, one application of computer graphics to the medical field is shown. We developed a rehabilitation system of hand manipulation using virtual reality aiming to offer enjoyable rehabilitation training to physically handicapped people with upper limb disabilities. This rehabilitation system generates training environments for upper limbs, such as moving balls in virtual space of computer. And by using data glove as a sophisticated input device, a user can manipulate objects in virtual space by his hand. By using this rehabilitation system, a user can have rehabilitation training under various conditions without feeling tedious.

  • This research paper examines the usage of graphic imaging in Holographic Projections to further advance the medical field. It highlights the importance and necessity of this technology as well as avant-garde techniques applied in the process of displaying images in digital holography. This paper also discusses the different types of applications for holograms in society today. Different tools were utilized to transfer a set of a cancer patient's brain tumor data into data used to produce a 3D holographic image. This image was produced through the transfer of data from one program to another. Through the use of semi-automatic segmentation through the seed region method, we were able to create a 3D visualization from Computed Tomography (CT) data.

  • This study was designed to test the convergence effectiveness of virtual reality programs for patients with stroke by using meta-analysis. Based on the PICOS criteria, we searched domestic literature and selected the final 9 studies in relation to 'stroke' and 'virtual reality programs'. Evaluation of the risk of bias in individual studies was conducted using evaluation tools according to the design of each study. The effect size of the meta-analysis was calculated using CMA program. The mediating effect analysis was conducted by sub-group analysis and meta-regression analysis. The overall effect size of the virtual reality program on the activities of daily living ability was Hedges's g=0.302(95% CI: 0.064~0.540), Therefore, virtual reality programs can increase the activities of daily living in stroke patients and have a positive impact on the medical industry that the convergence of virtual reality industry and healthcare industry.

  • As a communications system and using the wireless devices is increased at the world, the interference among devices at 2.4GHz band become issue. New complex content technology as education, concert, broadcast, thema-park are developed between Virtual Reality technology and tradition. That is expect an annual growth rate of more than 14%. Almost Virtual Reality devices use motion sense or a wireless joystick. Therefore it is necessarily to analyze the coexistence between Virtual Reality devices and Wi-Fi in the ISM band. The interference scenario and propagation of the Extended Hata Model was established to analyze the interference from WLAN into Virtual Reality devices. Through simulation results based on Monte-Carlo principle, separation frequency was obtained to protect WLAN interference from Virtual Reality devices.

  • The purpose of this research was to develop an augmented reality-based surgical nursing practice education application. The research proceeded in ADDIE order of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. In the analysis phase, we analyzed the surgical nursing learning needs of the expert group and nursing student group. As a result of the analysis, the demand for surgical instruments was generally high. We selected 51 surgical instruments of the 7 categories most frequently used in the operating room based on the needs, and produced them as AR Book. The augmented reality application was created based on the Unity 3D engine, and the application was built with Android OS so that the target person could use it. Expert assessment of application for augmented reality-based surgical nursing practice education application showed 73.4±4.3 out of 80. This study is significant in the part that first developed a new method of learning tools for surgical instruments. We determined that an augmented reality-based application has reality, portability, accessibility and simplicity.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how the virtual reality stimulation of conscious movement affects stress after inducing stress with fear stimulation through virtual reality for university students. The control group (n=26) was to applied visual and auditory of virtual reality, and the experimental group (n=29) was to applied visual, auditory and conscious movement together. As a result, in brain waves, it was confirmed that the experimental group induced relaxation better than the control group, and the stress response was more reduced to be more effective in regressing to baseline value, in heart rate variation, it was confirmed that the experimental group was more concentrated and more flow in virtual reality. Therefore, virtual reality stimulation applying conscious movement is considered to be a comfortable intervention method that can be applied to various stresses.

  • Surgery is a very hands-on area of medical care, in that surgeons identify problems in patients' bodies and directly change them through operations. Therefore, it is not only necessary for surgeons to have a high level of expertise, but also to take considerable responsibility for the outcomes of each operation. However, surgery, which was once an object of envy, has long been a process to avoid, due to various circumstances, such as abnormal medical expenses in the medical field and social phenomena that avoids difficult work. It is unfortunate that medical professionals do not receive sympathy from others within the same medical field because of the general difficulties of the profession. The fundamental problem in this situation is the abnormal profit structure of the Korean medical system. Efforts by various related organizations will be needed to objectively evaluate the problems of the current medical insurance system and to make reasonable adjustments considering the difficulty, frequency, and resource-intensiveness of medical care.
