Nowadays, as the development paeiod of new products becomes even shorter, the importance of Rapid Prototyping Technology(RPT) has been rapidly increased. The major application of RPT is an early verification of product designs and quick production of prototypes for testing. Moreover, RPT is applied not only as a second tooling process such as mold making and investment casting but also as a creating some physical structure in medical field. Despite the remarkable progress of RPT, it is required to improve various problems resulting from application such as production time, accuracy and materials. This paper presents a laser scan path generation for accuracy of stereolithographicparts The methodology of laser scan path generation is discussed based on the stereolithography, The procedure of this research is as follows : 1) Input laser scanning conditions such as a laser beam diameter and a laser scanning interval, 2) Reconstruct original contours without self intersecting offset, 3) Calculate offset about reconstructed contours, 4) Calculate intersection points between horizontal or vertical lines and offset contours for internal hatch, 5) Decide laser shutter on/off points. The algorithm developed and programmed by C language is verified as an efficient method after testing a number of STL files of mechanical parts.
Objectives: It is difficult to achieve adhesion between resin cement and zirconia ceramics using routine surface preparation methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of $CO_2$ and Er:YAG laser treatment on the bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramics. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro study 45 zirconia disks (6 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness) were assigned to 3 groups (n = 15). In control group (CNT) no laser treatment was used. In groups COL and EYL, $CO_2$ and Er:YAG lasers were used for pretreatment of zirconia surface, respectively. Composite resin disks were cemented on zirconia disk using dual-curing resin cement. Shear bond strength tests were performed at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min after 24 hr distilled water storage. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey's HSD tests. Results: The means and standard deviations of shear bond strength values in the EYL, COL and CNT groups were $8.65{\pm}1.75$, $12.12{\pm}3.02$, and $5.97{\pm}1.14MPa$, respectively. Data showed that application of $CO_2$ and Er:YAG lasers resulted in a significant higher shear bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramics (p < 0.0001). The highest bond strength was recorded in the COL group (p < 0.0001). In the CNT group all the failures were adhesive. However, in the laser groups, 80% of the failures were of the adhesive type. Conclusions: Pretreatment of zirconia ceramic via $CO_2$ and Er:YAG laser improves the bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramic, with higher bond strength values in the $CO_2$ laser treated samples.
Objective: As early as 1967, professor Endre Mester's group published the first scientific report concerning the effects of low level laser therapy (LLLT) on the skin of rats. After that, there have been some two thousand research reports from many countries in which the biological effects of low level lasers have been demonstrated. We reviewed some theses about LLLT published in Korea recently, and we make a proposal concerning the new method of study using LLLT in Oriental Medicine. Methods: We have selected 12 medical theses about low level laser therapy published in Korean Oriental Medicine journals recently, reviewed them, and investigated their methods. Results and Conclusion: There were several clinical studies in Korea about hyperlipidemia, hypercholesteremia, hyperfibrinogenemia, hyperlipoproteinemia, headache, dizziness, stroke, pain and numbness published from 1996 to 2000 using LLLT. The number of theses of good quality is showing a tendency to increase, recently. Sooner or later LLLT will be a very useful treatment and we believe that it will be an alternative useful method in Oriental Medical fields. There have been some negative public opinions about LLLT voiced in the Korean Oriental Medical society recently, but we expect a positive re-evaluation of this new treatment within Oriental Medicine in the near future.

In this paper, pulse current type power supply for laser diode dirver is discussed. High speed high power laser has been using widely because it becomes using on medical or manufacturing equipment, but researches have not being occurred actively. Current profiling method is proposed for improved lifetime expectancy of laser diode(LD). The current waveform of driving LD is most important factor of the performance and lifetime of LD. The proposed method improves shape and stability of current waveforms, thus will effect right direction of lifetime expectation.
The effects of low-level laser irradiation on cells and tissues, known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), are the basis of photomedicine. Several investigations have evaluated the therapeutic effects of PBMT for neuronal regeneration and differentiation in animal models and humans. Recently, intranasal PBMT (iN-PBMT) has shown potential as a treatment method for neurologic disorders. In this review, we have summarized the various modes of iN-PBMT delivery and their application in the treatment of brain disorders.
Laser has been widely used in various fields of medicine. Recently, noninvasive low-level laser therapeutic medical devices have been introduced in market. However, low-level laser cannot deliver enough photon density to expect positive therapeutic results in deep tissue layer due to the light scattering property in tissue. In order to overcome the limitation, this study was aimed to develop a negative pressure applied low-level laser probe to optimize laser transmission pattern and therefore, to improve photon density in soft tissue. In order to evaluate the possibility of clinical application of the developed laser probe, ex-vivo experiments were performed with porcine skin samples and laser transmissions were quantitatively measured as a function of tissue compression. The laser probe has an air suction hole to apply negative pressure to skin, a transparent plastic body to observe variations of tissue, and a small metallic optical fiber guide to support the optical fiber when negative pressure was applied. By applying negative pressure to the laser probe, the porcine skin under the metallic optical fiber guide is compressed down and, at the same time, low-level laser is emitted into the skin. Finally, the diffusion images of laser in the sample were acquired by a CCD camera and analyzed. Compared to the peak intensity without the compression, the peak intensity of laser increased about $2{\sim}2.5$ times and FWHM decreased about $1.67{\sim}2.85$ times. In addition, the laser peak intensity was positively and linearly increased as a function of compression. In conclusion, we verified that the developed low-level laser probe can control the photon density in tissue by applying compression, and therefore, its potential for clinical applications.

Currently, As Plasma application is expanded to the industrial and medical industrial, Low temperature plasma characteristics became important. Especially in Medical industrial, Low temperature plasma directly adapted to human skin, so their plasma parameter is important. One of the plasma parameters is electron density, some kinds of method to measuring electron density are Thomson scattering spectroscopy and Millimeter-wave transmission measurement. But most methods is expensive to composed of experiment system. Heterodyne interferometer system is cheap and simple to setting up, So we tried to measuring electron density by Laser heterodyne interferometer. To measuring electron density at atmospheric pressure, we need to obtain the phase shift signal. And we use a heterodyne interferometer. Our guiding laser is Helium-Neon laser which generated 632 nm laser. We set up to chopper which can make a laser signal like a pulse. Chopper can make a 4 kHz chopping. We used Needle jet as Ne plasma sources. Interference pattern is changed by refractive index of electron density. As this refractive index change, phase shift was occurred. Electron density is changed from Townsend discharge's electron bombardment, so we observed phenomena and calculated phase shift. Finally, we measured electron density by refractive index and electron density relationship. The calculated electron density value is approximately 1015~1016 cm-3. And we studied electron density value with voltage.
The recent development of new surgical techniques using lasers has increased the opportunities for open surgery involving minimal manipulation and faster and more accurate removal of lesions. The increasing use of laser technology requires nurses to play an extensive role. As assistants, nurses play an important role in maintaining the efficacy and safety of the laser device. In addition, they are also responsible for providing pre-and post-operative care to patients. Therefore, nurses should be aware of how to proceed with operative laser treatment for all surgical procedures and the steps for maintaining safety prior to, during, and after laser treatment. This review provides in-depth knowledge for nurses undertaking continuing education on lasers and patient care in the field of gynecology.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to review laser acupuncture studies to find possibility for applying high intensity laser to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment. Methods : Searching papers was performed using search engines of five electronic databases, including Pubmed, Thomson ISI, EMBASE, Sciencedirect, and EBSCO, from inception to May 2011 without language limitation. Inclusion criteria were clinical studies with human, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), case-control studies, and case reports. Selecting papers was performed with titles and abstracts in first step, scrutinize full text in second step, and then the extrated data was analyzed by two authors independently. The methodological quality for RCTs was evaluated using Jadad's scale. Results : Total 8 papers, (3 RCTs, 5 controlld studies, and 1 case reports), were finally selected. The study dealt with surgical laser, argon and $CO_2$ laser was one for each, with GaAs laser was two, and with new semiconductor laser, GaN, were four. The output range was from 110 mW to 15 W. The study diseases were alcohol addiction, knee osteoarthritis, bronchopneumonia and asthma for children, and circulation. All studies reported positive effect. The methodological quality in all RCTs was low because of below 3 points and all studies had few subject numbers. Conclusions : We suggest that high intensity laser can be applied to acupuncture and moxibustion. Further rigorous and well-designed study will be needed for various disease. The oriental medical society needs to take active measures to study and clinical application of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment with high intensity laser.
Background Fractional $CO_2$ laser is an effective treatment for scars, but most patients complain about sharp burning pain, even after the application of lidocaine ointment. This study analyzed the impact of a vibrating device to nonpharmacologically reduce the acute pain of laser treatment, in accordance with the gate control theory of pain management. Methods This is a prospective study performed from May 2013 through March 2014. Fifty-three patients (mean age, 26.7 years; range, 16-44 years) who had donated livers for liver transplantation were treated with a fractional $CO_2$ laser (10,600 nm; model $eCO_2$, Lutronic Corp) for their abdomen scars. Laser treatment was applied 4 months after surgery. A commercially available, locally applied vibrating device (model UM-30M, Unix Electronics Co. Ltd.) was used, in an on-and-off pattern, together with the $CO_2$ laser. A visual analogue scale (VAS; 0, no pain; 10, most severe pain) of pain sensation was assessed and statistically analyzed using a paired t-test. Results The average VAS score for pain with the vibrating device was 4.60 and the average VAS score without the vibrating device was 6.11. The average difference between scores was 1.51 (P=0.001). Conclusions A locally applied vibrating device was demonstrated to be effective in reducing pain when treating with a fractional $CO_2$ laser. Vibration treatment could be helpful when treating scars with fractional $CO_2$ laser in pain-sensitive patients, particularly children.
