  • In this paper we propose the impulse noise-robust Wiener filter based on a combination of Wiener and modified trimmed mean(MTM) filters. The robust Wiener filter uses the trimming operation of the MTM filter to replace the outliers with the median within the window and the new set of samples which can be considered as the random process with same mean are inputted into the following Wiener filter. We show that the robust Wiener filter is effective in frequency selective filtering of nonstationary signals while preserving signal edges with the rejection of impulse noise.

  • Ionospheric data from DGS-256 ionosonde operated by Radio Research Laboratory in Anyang archived during 1991-2002 was extracted and analyzed firstly in Korea. Daily, monthly and annual variations of the 12-year F2 layer critical frequency(foF2) are derived to investigate the statistical ionospheric characteristics during one complete solar cycle. Positive correlation between the mean values of 24-hourly monthly median foF2 and the monthly smoothed sunspot number(SSN) for the same period is found. (omitted)

  • A myoelectric signal, under sustained isometric contraction of muscle the modelled as the output of a linear time-varying system whose input is constant number of pulse train. The proposed model considered localized muscle fatigue by metabolic by-products during sustained fatiguing contraction. To characterize muscle fatiguing model of myoelectric signal, We calculated median frequency of generated signal as fatiguing index of muscle during sustained isometric contraction.

  • In this paper, the effect of the irradiation of the median-frequency of ultrasonic wave on the aqueous solution have been investigated. In addition, the decomposition ability of radical species was observed using phytoncide oil of 0.1 wt %. By observing the degree of decomposition while maintaining magnetic stirring, the unirradiated aqueous solution maintained turbid condition and the particle size of the oil was the same as the initial size. On the other hand, the irradiated aqueous solution presented that the transparency degree became good after 3 days and became to the same as the original purified water after one week. The particle size of the after 3 days was about 0.1 to $0.5{\mu}m$. From these results it could be demonstrated that when a medium frequency (about 400 kHz) is applied to the aqueous solution, decomposition ability of radical species are formed and the medium frequency irradiation system can be possible to purify the turbid aqueous solution.

  • This study aims to find equivalent comfort contours, reciprocal of frequency weighting curves, for vertical steering wheel vibration. Psychophysical responses were measured from twelve male subjects by using magnitude estimation of relative discomfort due to vertical steering wheel vibrations of magnitude of 0.1 to 1.58 $m/s^2$ in the frequency range of 4 to 250 Hz. Relative discomfort were estimated with a reference vibration of 0.4 $m/s^2$ at 31.5 Hz. Equivalent comfort contours were produced from the median of sensation magnitudes judged by twelve subjects, which showed variation in the shapes with increase of vibration magnitude. A shape of the contour came close to the perception threshold curve with decrease of vibration magnitude. When the vibration magnitude increases, the shape changed close to those in the references of Hong and et al (2003). It is also recommended frequency weighting curves for vertical steering wheel vibration must be expressed as a function of vibration magnitude as well as frequency.

  • A computer-based low back muscle evaluation system was designed to simultaneously acquire, process, display, quantify, and correlate electromyographic(EMG) activity with muscle force, and range of motion(ROM) in the lumbar muscle of human. This integrated multi-channel system was designed around notebook PC. Each channel consisted of a time and frequency domain block, and T-F(time-frequency) domain block. The captured data in each channel was used to display and Quantify : raw EMG, histogram, zero crossing, turn, RMS(root mean square), variance, mean, power spectrum, median frequency, mean frequency, wavelet transform, Wigner-Ville distribution, Choi-Williams distribution, and Cohen-Posch distribution. To evaluate the performance of the designed system, the static and dynamic contraction experiments from lumbar(waist) level of human were done. The experiment performed in five subjects, and various parameters were tested and compared. This system could equally well be modified to allow acquisition, processing, and analysis of EMG signals in other studies and applications.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the contraction patterns of active elbow muscles during isometric, concentric and eccentric contraction. The analysis parameters consist of frequency domain parameters (mean frequency, median frequency, peak frequency, peak power, skewness, kurtosis) and time domain paraseters (zero crossing, positive maxima, integrated EMG). The results of this study were as follows; The BR/BB of isometric contraction appeared to be Venter as the elbow joint was more extended. The BR /BB during concentric and eccentric contraction tended to increase with more extension of the elbow joint angle, but there was no significant difference between concentric and eccentric contraction. Further, the EMG power spectrum due to the type of contraction were different betwen eccentric and concentric contraction. According to the results, it was found that the activation pattern in elbow flexor muscles was different during three different muscle contraction pattern. Therefore, elbow flexor muscles should not be considered a single functioning unit. Especially, at the time domain analysis, IEMG is a dominant parameter for analysis of activation patterns, and the skewness kurtosis can be useful parameters in functional recognition for prosthesis control purpose.

  • RFID is a technology that uses radio frequency to read information in tags attached to objects or people. Because it reads the information without contact when tracking the location using tags in a RFID system, there can be errors between the actual position and measured position. In this paper, three methods (the method of radiation pattern, the method of the median value, and the method using both the radiation pattern and median value) are proposed to identify the location of objects or people using the RFID technique. The location identification system based on RFID was constructed and tags were arranged in a square pattern. The real location and experimentally predicted location of an object containing a reader were compared to confirm the error. Instead of the existing papers that obtained the approximately location of a reader by calculating the center of gravity of all tags read by that reader, in this study, the predicted location was obtained by the median value and the radiation pattern. This study validated which method was the most efficient among the three methods proposed in this paper through the data of the read tags. As a result, the method of the median value had the smallest error among those assessed.

  • The paper presents an algorithm for estimating the variance of additive zero mean Gaussian noise in an image. The algorithm uses the wavelet transform which is a good tool for energy compaction. The algorithm consists of three steps. At first, high frequency components, wavelet coefficients in HH band, are generated from a noisy image by the wavelet transform. In a second step, high frequency components which are out of the noise range ate eliminated. Finally, if the image has many components eliminated in the previous step, then its noise estimated value is reduced. Experimental results show that the wavelet filter has better performance than the other high pass filters such as a Laplacian filter, residual from a median filter, residual from a mean filter, and a difference operator. In various images, the algorithm reduces 50% of estimated error on an average.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of assets and liabilities of farm households and to evaluate the financial status of rural middle-aged and old-aged household using financial ratios. For these purposes an empirical survey data was gathered from rural middle-aged and old-aged households in 8 provinces using structured questionnaires. 877 households data were used in final analysis. The statistical methods used for data analysis are frequency percentile mean The statistical methods used for data analysis are frequency percentile mean median standard deviation $\chi$2 and t-test using SPSS/PC WIN program. Among financial ratios 64.7% of total households could meet the guideline of consumption to income ratio 5.9% of total households could meet the appropriate level of short-term and long-term liquidity. In the case of debt burden ration 82% of total households could meet the guideline. And 28.5% of total households could meet the guideline of capital stock ratio .
