  • Objectives: In working environment measurement, sampling is an important stage for obtaining reliable result as analysis. A personal air sampling pump is one of the most fundamental and important element in the work environment measurement, but it remains at the level of calibrating the flow rate of the pump before and after sampling. There is no checking whether the flow rate set at the initial stage would be hold during sampling. The purpose of this study was to develop a method to evaluate the flow rate performance of particulate sampling pump with three-pieces cassette holder containing filters commonly used to sample particulate. Materials and methods: We tested back pressure of particulate sampling pumps commonly used in Korea with three-pieces cassette holder containing various filters, and tried to find out the combination conditions of filters in accordance with back pressure required by ISO standard 13137. Results: We found out the matrix of sampling media such as three-pieces cassette holder containing filters applicable to the pressure drop required by the ISO standard for evaluating the flow rate stability under increasing pressure drop and long term(8 hour) performance. Conclusions: This evaluation method using sampling media matrix for checking flow rate stability proposed by this study could be very useful tool to find out good performance pumps before sampling.

  • In VARTM process where a sacrificial medium is used to facilitate the resin flow, the velocity of resin varies drastically between the sacrificial medium and the fiber preform. Although the thickness-to-length ratio of a VARTM product is usually small, a 3-D analysis is prerequisite to analyze the lead-lag flow in the two different media. The problem associated with the full 3-D analysis is the CPU time. A full 3-D numerical mesh comprising large number of nodes requires an impractical CPU time on average computer platforms. In this study, a dual-scale analysis technique was developed. The flow analysis for the entire calculation domain was conducted in 2.5-D, and the 3-D analysis was performed for a small area of special concern. In some numerical examples, the local 3-D analysis could discover an eccentric flow pattern as well as the lead-lag flow that will inevitably be neglected in 2.5-D simulations. The global-local analysis technique practiced in this study can be used to analyze the intricate flow of resin through non-uniform media in affordable CPU times.

  • The CUPID code has been developed for a transient, three-dimensional, two-phase flow analysis at a component scale. It has been validated against a wide range of two-phase flow experiments. Especially, to assess its applicability to single- and two-phase flow analyses in the Calandria vessel of a CANDU nuclear reactor, it was validated using the experimental data of the 1/4-scaled facility of a Calandria vessel at the STERN laboratory. In this study, a preliminary thermal-hydraulic analysis of the CANDU reactor moderator tank using the CUPID code is carried out, which is based on the results of the previous studies. The complicated internal structure of the Calandria vessel and the inlet nozzle was modeled in a simplified manner by using a porous media approach. One of the most important factors in the analysis was found to be the modeling of the tank inlet nozzle. A calculation with a simple inlet nozzle modeling resulted in thermal stratification by buoyance, leading to a boiling from the top of the Calandria tank. This is not realistic at all and may occur due to the lack of inlet flow momentum. To improve this, a new nozzle modeling was used, which can preserve both mass flow and momentum flow at the inlet nozzle. This resulted in a realistic temperature distribution in the tank. In conclusion, it was shown that the CUPID code is applicable to thermal-hydraulic analysis of the CANDU reactor moderator tank using the cost-effective porous media approach and that the inlet nozzle modeling is very important for the flow analysis in the tank.

  • Trust is formed from the day-to-day and persistent interaction relationship. The trust demands more and more at the age of uncertainty. Human beings are using media interaction. The area of communication with media is extended to virtual space. The purpose of this study is to qualitatively explain trust building process in virtual team by media using. In the pursuit of this purpose, we executed in-depth interview with the person who have experience communicating by media with a man of a complete stranger. They experienced the trust building process. Interview data were analyzed by a Structured Coding Techniques. The derived seven categories were reconstructed in consideration of the cause-and-effect relationship and the flow of events. We have discovered a new trust model that was the result from communication by a media using. The model presented is very useful to Individuals who need a new trust building relationship with stranger or virtual team member.

  • With the rapid spread of social media, video-sharing social media like YouTube has emerged as a consumption and distribution channel for entertainment goods such as music videos and movie trailers. In tourism research, there has been a lot of research of how the visual media such as movies and soap operas induced tourism. However, no studies have attempted to examine the role of social media as a music consumption channel and its impact on tourism. Expanding a body of media-induced tourism, we analysed the impact of video-sharing social media on music-induced tourism with a case of Korean pop music and inbound tourism to Korea. Developing a Web-crawler, we collected YouTube users' comments data on 166 Korean pop music video clips which were released from 2009 to 2012 with over 1 million view counts. Controlling many of the determinants of tourism and analysing country-by-country impact of YouTube comments with the panel data, we found that engagement of Korean pop music video clips on YouTube is a significant predictor for the flow of inbound tourists to Korea.

  • This study proposes the characteristics of the pressure drop in a compressible fluid through porous media for application to a porous injector in a liquid rocket engine in order to improve the uniformity of the drop size distribution and the mixing performance of shear coaxial injectors. The fluid through the porous media is a Non-Darcy flow that shows a Nonlinear relation between the pressure drop and the velocity at high speed and high mass flow rate. The pressure drop of the Non-Darcy flow can be derived using the Forchheimer equation that includes the losses of viscous and inertia resistance. The permeability and Ergun coefficient represented as a function of the pressure drop and pore size can be applied to the porous injector, where the fluid through the porous media is compressible. A generalized correlation between the pressure drop in relation to the pore size was derived.

  • The root-zone environment is an important factor to the plant growth and it is closely related to the thermal characteristics of the root media. In this study thermal characteristics of root media with ambient environmental conditions were analyzed. The temperatures of nutrient solution as well as inside air of culture bed were measured in Nutrient Film Technique(NFT) and Deep Flow Technique(DFT) systems, and also the temperatures of root media measured in aggregate culture systems , The temperature of nutrient solution of NFT system with as low as 3$\ell$/min of flow rate was 3$^{\circ}C$ higher than that with 5 $\ell$/min of flow rate in the daytime, and the temperature of inside air was 2$^{\circ}C$ higher at night. And the temperature of nutrient solution of DFT system with as low as 0.8 cm of water level was 1-2$^{\circ}C$ higher than that with 1 8 cm in the daytime, and the temperature of inside air was almost same at night. The root-zone temperatures in the perlite and rockwool granulate systems with film mulching were 3$^{\circ}C$ higher than those without film mulching in the daytime. However, the rockwool slab system with film mulching showed the same trend as rockwool granulate system, but relatively higher temperature than any other medium because of the exposure of media surface to the ambient air. Additionally the temperature below the plant was measured 3$^{\circ}C$ lower than that between plants.

  • The function of vertical subsurface flow wetlands can potentially be reduced with time due to clogging and are often assumed to be occurring when ponding and overflow is observed during rainfall. To investigate their clogging potential, three pilot-scale vertical subsurface flow (VSF) wetland systems were constructed employing woodchip, pumice, and volcanic gravel as main media. The systems received stormwater runoff from a highway bridge for seven months, after which the media were taken out and divided into layers to determine the amount and characteristics of the accumulated clogging matters. Findings revealed that the main clogging mechanism was the deposition of suspended solids. This is followed by the growth of biofilm in the media which is more evident in the wetland employing woodchip. Up to more than 30% of the clogging matter were found in the upper 20 cm of the media suggesting that this layer will need replacement once clogging occurs. Moreover, no signs of clogging were observed in all the wetlands during the operation period even though an estimation of at least 2 months without clogging was calculated. This was attributed to the intermittent loading mode of operation that gave way for the decomposition of organic matters during the resting period and potentially restored the pore volume.

  • Analysis of the internal state of the blast furnace is needed to predict and control the operating condition. Especially, it is important to develop modeling of blast furnace for predicting cohesive zone because shape of cohesive zone influences on overall operating condition of blast furnace such as gas flow, temperature distribution and chemical reactions. Because many previous blast furnace models assumed cohesive zone to be fixed, they can't evaluate change of cohesive zone shape by operation condition such as PCR, blast condition and production rate. In this study, an axi-symmetric 2-dimensional steady state model is proposed to simulate blast furnace process using the general purpose-simulation code. And Porous media is assumed for the gas flow and the potential flow for the solid flow. Velocity, pressure and temperature distribution for gas and solid are displayed as the simulation results. The cohesive zones are figured in 3 different operating conditions.

  • Flow distribution of a mid-size vehicle in engine room was investigated numerically to analyze the flow performance of given design cases in a front body of the mid-size vehicle. The data analyzed are the mass flow rate at the upper and lower openings, in the radiator, and the degree of non-uniformity of the velocity field at the inlet of the radiator. It is presented that the shape of the front end and the presence of the undercover greatly affect the flow fields, therefore, the flow performance.
