Influence of Composition of Layer Layout on Bending and Compression Strength Performance of Larix Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT)

  • In this study, bending and compression strength tests were performed to investigate effect of composition of layer layout of Larix cross-laminated timber (CLT) on mechanical properties. The Larix CLT consists of five laminae, and specimens were classified into four types according to grade and composition of layer. The layer's layout were composited as follows 1) cross-laminating layers in major and minor direction (Type A), and 2) cross-laminating external layer in major direction and internal layer applied grade of layer in minor direction (Type B). E12 and E16 were used as grades of lamina for major direction layer of Type A and external layer of Type B according to KS F 3020. In results of the bending test of CLT using same grade layer according to layer composition, the modulus of elasticity (MOE) of Type B was higher than Type A. In case of prediction of bending MOE of Larix CLT, the experimental MOE was higher than 1.00 to 1.09 times for Shear analogy method and 1.14 to 1.25 times for Gamma method. Therefore, it is recommended to predict the bending MOE for Larix CLT by shear analogy method. Compression strength of CLT in accordance with layer composition was measured to be 2% and 9% higher for Type A using E12 and E16 layers than Type B, respectively. In failure mode of Type A, progress direction of failure generated under compression load was confirmed to transfer from major layer to minor layer by rolling shear or bonding line failure due to the middle lamina in major direction.

  • In this study, we developed a semi-analytical approach for the numerical analysis of residual stress in oxide scales formed on hot-rolled steels. The oxide scale, formed during the hot rolling process, experiences complex interactions due to thermal and mechanical influences, significantly affecting the material's integrity and performance. Our research focuses on integrating various stress components such as thermal stress, growth stress, and creep behavior to predict the residual stress within the oxide layer. The semi-analytical method combines analytical expressions for each stress component with numerical integration to account for their cumulative effects. Validation through instrumented indentation tests confirms the reliability of our model, which considers thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) differences, scale growth, and creep-induced stress relaxation. Our findings indicate that thermal stress resulting from CTE differences significantly impacts the overall residual stress, with growth stress contributing a compressive component during cooling, and creep behavior playing a minor role in stress relaxation. This comprehensive approach enhances the accuracy of residual stress prediction, facilitating the optimization of material design and processing conditions for hot-rolled steel products.

가교제 증량이 트레드용 실리카 컴파운드의 물성에 미치는 영향 (Physical Properties of the Silica-Reinforced Tire Tread Compounds by the Increased Amount of Vulcanization Agents)

  • 본 연구는 황과 가교 촉진제의 함량이 달리 적용된 acrylonitrile styrene-butadiene rubber (AN-SBR)/silica 컴파운드가 타이어 트레드 컴파운드의 특성에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다. 실험 결과, 가교제 및 가교촉진제의 함량이 증가할수록 가교 반응성이 증대되어 가교속도 및 컴파운드의 가교도가 상승하였다. 또한 내마모 특성 뿐만 아니라 경도, 모듈러스와 같은 컴파운드의 기계적 특성은 높은 가교도에 기인하여 향상되었다. 동적 점탄 특성에서는 가교도의 증가와 함께 유리전이온도 ($T_g$)가 상승하여 $0^{\circ}C$ 영역에서의 tan ${\delta}$ 값이 향상되었고, $60^{\circ}C$ 영역에서의 tan ${\delta}$ 값이 감소되었다. 초기 가교 속도 ($t_1$)는 $60^{\circ}C$의 tan ${\delta}$ 값과 선형적인 관계를 나타내었다. 이는 가교제의 증량으로 초기 가교 속도 ($t_1$)가 빨라져 조기에 가교가 시작됨으로써 filler network 의 발달을 억제시킨 결과에 따른 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 결과는 AFM (atomic force microscopy)을 통하여 열처리된 컴파운드의 표면 관찰에서도 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서, 빠른 초기 가황 반응에 기인한 실리카의 re-agglomeration 감소는 $60^{\circ}C$에서의 tan ${\delta}$를 결정하는 매우 중요한 변수임을 알 수 있다.

Current and Future Trends of Accelerators and Antidegradants for the Tire Industry

  • Rubber chemicals such as accelerators, antidegradants, vulcanizing agents, processing agents and retarders are very important to the production and protection of tires and rubber goods. The use of accelerators and antidegradants are evaluated in various tire components. This paper will focus on how to vulcanize tires economically and maintain the physical properties of each tire component without severe degradation due to oxygen, heat and ozone. Also, new non-nitrosoamine accelerators and non-staining antiozonants will be discussed. Lastly, the future requirements of antidegradants and accelerators in the tire industry will be reviewed. Tires have been vulcanized with Sulfenamides as primary accelerators and either Guamdine's or Thiurams as secondary accelerators to achieve proper properties at service conditions. However, interior components such as the carcass can be vulcanized with Thiazoles as a primary accelerator to cure faster than the external components. Using the combination of Sulfenamide with secondary accelerators in a tire tread compound and the combination of a Thiazole and Guanidine in a carcass compound will be presented with performance data. Uniroyal Chemical and another Rubber Chemical Manufacturer have developed, "Tetrabenzyl Thiuram Disulfide," (TBzTD) as a non-Nitrosoamine accelerator, which could replace Nitrosoamine generating Thiurams. This new accelerator has been evaluated in a tread compound as a secondary accelerator. Also, Flexsys has developed N-t-butyl-2-benzothiazole Sulfenamide (TBSI) as a non-Nitrosoamine accelerator which could replace 2-(Morpholinothio) -benzothiazole (MBS), a scorch delayed Sulfendamide accelerator. TBSI has been evaluated in a Natural Rubber (NR) belt skim compound vs. MBS. An optimum low rolling resistant cure system has been developed in a NR tread with Dithiomorpholine (DTDM). Also, future requirements for developing accelerators will be discussed such as the replacement of DTDM and other stable crosslink systems. Antidegradants are divided into two different types for use in tire compounds. Internal tire compounds such as apex, carcass, liner, wire breaker, cushion, base tread and bead compounds are protected by antioxidants against degradation from oxygen and heat due to mechanical shear. The external components such as sidewall, chafer and cap tread com-pounds are protected from ozone by antiozonants and waxes. Various kinds of staining and non-staining antioxidants have been evaluated in a tire carcass compound. Also, various para-phenylene diamine antiozonants have been evaluated in a tire sidewall compound to achieve the improved lifetime of the tire. New non-staining antiozonants such as 2, 4, 6-tris-(N-1, 4-dimethylpentyl-p-phenylene diamine) 1, 3, 5 Trizine (D-37) and un-saturated Acetal (AFS) will be discussed in the tire sidewall to achieve better appearance. The future requirements of antidegradants will be presented to improve tire performance such as durability, better appearance and longer lasting tires.

AHRS를 이용한 무선 선체 운동 측정 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Wireless Ship Motion Measurement System Using AHRS)

  • IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit)는 선박, 잠수함, 항공기 및 군용장비 응용분야에서 적용되어 자세 측정 영역에 주로 사용되고 있지만, 이런 IMU는 고가의 장비이기 때문에 특수 분야에서만 한정적으로 이용되어 왔다. 그러나 MEMS AHRS(MEMS : Micro Electro Mechanical System, AHRS : Attitude and Heading Reference System)의 현 기술 상황은 지능형 MEMS AHRS가 채택된 응용분야에서 가격이 높은 IMU를 대체 할 수 있는 수준에 이르고 있다. 본 논문에서는 자이로 센서, 가속도 센서, 지자기 센서를 사용한 AHRS를 이용하여 선박의 주요 운동 요소인 횡동요, 종동요, 선수동요 값을 측정할 수 있는 무선 선체 운동 측정 시스템을 개발하였다. 또한 AHRS 센서가 발생시키는 오차인 순간 가속도, 지자기의 영향 및 진동에 대응하기 위하여 칼만 필터링 기능이 탑재된 센서를 적용함으로서 최적의 성능을 실현하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 구현한 AHRS 센서를 이용한 무선 선체 운동 측정 시스템을 이용하여 실선 실험을 실행하였으며, 선박의 제한적인 설치 상황에서도 편리하게 적용할 수 있을 것으로 보여진다. 향후 이 시스템이 선박에서 INS(Integrated Navigation System) 및 VDR(Voyage Data Recorder)과 같은 선박 장비와 호환되어 활용될 경우 항해 안전과 해양사고 분석에 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

홍적층(洪積層)에 기인(基因)된 적황색토(赤黃色土)의 형태(形態) 및 물리적(物理的) 화학적(化學的) 특성(特性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) - 창평통(昌平統)에 관(關)하여 - (The Morphology and Physical and Chemical Characteristics of the Changpyeong Series Derived from Old Alluvium)

  • 홍적(洪積)에 기인(基因)된 적황색토중(赤黃色土中) 생성년대(生成年代)가 오래다고 추정(推定)되는 창평통(昌平統)에 대한 형태(形態) 및 물리적(物理的) 화학적(化學的) 성질(性質)에 관(關)하여 조사(調査)한 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하여 보면 다음과 같다. 형태적특성(形態的特性)에 있어 표토(表土)(A층(層))는 암갈색(暗褐色)의 미사질식양토(微砂質埴壤土)이며 심토(心土)(B층(層))는 암적색(暗赤色) 내지(乃至) 적색(赤色)의 미사질식토(微砂質埴土) 혹은 식토(埴土)로서 토괴표면(土塊表面)에 점토피막(粘土皮膜)이 형성(形成)되어 있다. 기층(基層)은 풍화(風化)된 석력(石礫)이 있는 홍적모재(洪積母材)이며 토양(土壤)의 깊이는 150cm 이상(以上)으로 매우 깊다. 물리적(物理的) 화학적(化學的) 특성(特性)에 있어서는 강산성(强酸性)(표토(表土) 4.5 심토(心土) 5.2~5.5)이며 유기물함량(有機物含量)(표토(表土) 0.84% 심토(心土) 0.15~0.8%)이 낮음과 동시(同時) 염기치환용량(鹽基置換容量)(표토(表土) 12me/100g 심토(心土) 8.9~23.5me/100g)도 낮다. 그러나 치환침출염류(置換浸出鹽類) 총량(總量)에 의(依)한 염기포화도(鹽基飽和度)(표토(表土) 55% 심토(心土) 48~85%)는 비교적(比較的) 높은 편(便)이다. 토양입자(土壤粒子)의 수직분포(垂直分布)에 있어서 표토(表土) 및 심토(心土)는 뚜렷한 변화(變化)가 없는 것으로 보아 심토(心土)에 있어 점토집적(粘土集積)은 Podzolization에 의(依)한 것이라기 보다 점토(粘土)의 기계적이동(機械的移動)에 의(依)한 것이라 추정(推定)된다. 창평통(昌平統)은 USDA 7차분류시안(次分類試案)에 의(依)하면 Typic Hapludalfs, FAO 분류방식(分類方式)에 의(依)하면 Brunic Luvisols 에 속(屬)한다.

동력경운기를 중심으로한 맥류재배의 기계화 -관작업체계 확립에 관한 연구 (Study on the Establishment of Barley Cultivation System using the Power Tiller)

  • To maintain the self-sufficiency of food production , it is required to improved the productivity and increase the effective utilization of land in the double cropping areas using improved cultivation technology. The following reasons encourage this cours of action because the overlapping rice harvest and barely seeding seasons complete for labour, the lower price of barley makes it financially less attractive to grow and these two facts together are responsible for a decrease in barley being planted in certain more seasonably marginal double cropping areas. Fro these reasons, it is desirable to carry out tests to improve the current cultivation techniques . In this interest , the following studies were carried out in the experimental field located at Banweol-myeon, Whasung-jkun, Gyeonggi-do from October 1977 to July 1978 in order to establish the mechanical method of barley cultivation using the power tiller. The summarized results are as follows. 1. The work performance in the seeding operation using the rotary barley seeder was 68 minutes per 10 ares which compares favourably with 408 min/10a using the conventional method. This is only one sixth of the time required by th conventional method. The operating costs using the rotary barley seeder was 1, 463 won per 10 areas as against 3, 486 Won per 10 ares for the conventional method, showing a saving of about 50% in comparison with the conventional method. 2. In the manure spreading operation, the work performance was 25 min/10a for the manure spreading machine , compared to 1089 min/10a for the manual operations. This is about one fourth of the time required by the conventional method, The operating costs were 810 Won/10a for the machine and 857 Won/10a for the manual labour. This cost shows little advantage by the machine over the manual labor costs. The conventional method of manure spreading will continue pending decision which will develope and improve the machine.3. Work performance in the rolling operation using the barley rolIer was 30 min/lOa which compares favourably with 135 min/10a using conventional method. This was one fourth of the time required by the conventional method. The operating costs were 514 Won/103. for the machine and 1, 003 Won/lOa for manual labour. In the weed control operation, the work performance and operating costs were 45min/lOa, 1, 399won/10a for the herbcide application using the power sprayer, 1, 149min/10a 8, 541won/lOa for the conventional method respectively. This is 26 times higher efficiency in comparison to the conventional method. 4. In the harvesting operation using the reaper binder and tiller attachment, the work performance was 60min/lOa and represents a cost of 2, 039won/10a. The con\ulcornerventional method took 640min/10a at a cost of 4, 757won/lOa. The reaper binder showns a saving of one tenth over the conventional method. The automatic thresher is already recommended for the current situations, and is now being used. 5. From a comparison of the results of the above trials, the serial cultivation system using the attachment for the power tiller such as the rotary barley seeder is now to be recommended for the current barley cultivation system. It is also recommend from these results that the mechanized technology now available must be used to improve and maintain the increase in barley production. It is seen th1t this is the only course now avaihble to solve the peak seasonal requirements of labour needed for l11rvesting and seeding between rice and barley cultivation.
