The Mechanical properties of steel in hot strip mill were associated with the various rolling conditions such as alloy composition, plastic deformation, cooling history and so on. After coiling process of strip which is the end of hot rolling process, the coil can be the final product or can be applied by another process, that is, cold rolling or skin pass rolling with the additional changes of mechanical properties. Skin pass rolling process with the small reduction affects the mechanical properties of the strip. Because many kinds of hot strips are delivered to the customers after the skin pass process, it is important for us to know the skin pass effects for the mechanical properties of the hot rolling strip. In this study, the variations of mechanical properties of the strip after the skin pass rolling will be discussed. Then, the mathematical model will be proposed for the prediction of mechanical properties of the final products with the comparison between measured and calculated values.

This paper addresses the systematic procedure using sequential approach for the analysis of the coupled thermo-mechanical behavior of a steady rolling tire. Not only the knowledge of mechanical stresses but also of the temperature loading in a rolling tire are very important because material damage and material properties are significantly affected by the temperature. In general, the thermo-mechanical behavior of a pneumatic tire is highly complex transient phenomenon that requires the solution of a dynamic nonlinear coupled themoviscoelasticity problem with heat source resulting from internal dissipation and friction. In this paper, a sequential approach, with effective calculation schemes, to modeling this system is presented in order to predict the temperature distribution with reasonable sccuracies in a steady state rolling tire. This approach has the three major analysis modules-deformation, dissipation, and thermal modules. In the dissipation module, an analytic method for the calculation of the heat source in a rolling tire is established using viscoelastic theory. For the verification of the calculated temperature profiles and rolling resistance at different velocities, they were compared with the measured ones.

Magnesium alloy AZ31, which processed by conventional rolling or extrusion, has high anisotropy of mechanical properties in its strength and elongation at room temperature. We compared the influence of differential speed rolling with conventional rolling process on microstructure and mechanical properties of commercial AZ31 sheet. Commercial AZ31 alloy sheets were processed with conventional and differential speed rolling with thickness reduction ratio of 30% at a various temperature. The elongation of AZ31 alloy, warm-rolled by differential speed rolling is larger than those rolled by conventional rolling. Besides, grain size and distribution on microstructure of the conventional rolled materials were coarse and inhomogeneous, on the contrary, those of the differential speed rolled were fine and homogeneous.
An analytical approach is presented to investigate the deformation characteristics of billets in a continuous billet mill using power driven horizontal stands and idle vertical stands. The analysis is validated by comparison to the experimental results in a previously published work. The analytical results have shown that, apart from the problems of slip and buckling of billet, there are some shortcomings involved in this method. Compared to conventional rolling with all driven stands, the roll load for idle vertical stands and the rolling torque for horizontal stands are almost doubled. The billet is severely stressed within the roll-bite of idle vertical stands and the overall rolling power has increased by one third of that for conventional rolling. Theseshortcomings impair the feasibility of industrial application of idle vertical stand rolling method.
A nitrogen gas atomized aluminum powder was consolidated by powder-in sheath rolling method. A pure aluminum tube with outer diameter of 12 mm and wall thickness of 1mm was used as a sheath. The aluminum tube filled with the aluminum powder, first, was cold-rolled to the thickness of 6mm for performing, and then consolidated by the cold rolling and/or subsequent hot rolling at 360, 460 and $560^{\circ}C$. The aluminum powder compact fabricated by the sheath rolling showed high relative density more than 0.96 at any rolling conditions. The 0.2% proof stress increased with increasing hot rolling reduction and hot rolling temperature. Tensile strength was hardly affected by change in the hot rolling reduction, whereas it decreased with increasing hot rolling temperature. The powder compact showed the large elongation when cold rolling or hot rolling reduction was large. It was found that the sheath rolling was an effective method for consolidation of aluminum powder.
The cold rolling workability and mechanical properties of two new alloys, designed and cast Al-5.5Mg-2.9Si and Al-7Mg-0.9Zn alloys, were investigated in detail. The two alloy sheets of 4 mm thickness, 30 mm width and 100 mm length were reduced to a thickness of 1 mm by multi-pass rolling at ambient temperature. The rolling workability was better for the Al-7Mg-0.9Zn alloy than for the Al-5.5Mg-2.9Si alloy; in case of the former alloy, edge cracks began to occur at 50% rolling reduction, and their number and length increased with rolling reduction; however, in the latter alloy, the sheets did not have any cracks even at higher rolling reduction. The mechanical properties of tensile strength and elongation were also better in the Al-7Mg-0.9Zn alloy than in Al-5.5Mg-2.9Si alloy. Work hardening ability after cold rolling was also higher in the Al-7Mg-0.9Zn alloy than in the Al-5.5Mg-2.9Si alloy. At the same time, the texture development was very similar for both alloys; typical rolling texture developed in both alloys. These differences in the two alloys can primarily be explained by the existence of precipitates of $Mg_2Si$. It is concluded that the Al-7Mg-0.9Zn alloy is better than the Al-5.5Mg-2.9Si alloy in terms of mechanical properties.

It has been well established that resistant force and wear that occur during rolling motion depend on several factors such as material type, hardness, subsurface microstructure, applied load, and speed. The purpose of this work is to investigate the effect of microstructure and the state of deformed layer on the rolling contact characteristics in dry and lubricated rolling contacts. The results of this work show that the rolling resistance behavior depends on the state of the deformed layer. Also, lubrication can reduce the plastic flow at the surface but may still have an effect on the subsurface strain. The cross-sectional view of the microstructure shows that surface traction has a difinite effect on the morphology of the surface region. That is, significant slip seems to have taken place between the ball than those of the dry rolling case. The surface generation effects were significantly less compared to the case of dry rolling contact.
Experimental investigations were attempted to simultaneously observe the vapor behaviors and critical heat flux under static and rolling conditions. From visualization results, vapor initiated, grew, and detached individually in a vertical direction from the static heated surfaces (at 10, 20, and 30°). While under rolling motion, initiated vapor grew, and interacted with each other, resulting in forming a wider dry spot on the heated surface. Also, it was observed that the vapor drifted upward and stayed on the heated surface longer compared to under static condition. The faster the platform rolls, the longer the vapor stay on the heated surface, significantly decreasing the CHF. On the other hand, as the platform rolls slower (at high rolling period), CHF increases. CHF was decreased with increasing maximum rolling amplitude and inclination angle under both conditions (static and rolling). CHF under rolling conditions was noticed to be lower than under static condition except at maximum rolling amplitude of 10°. The bubble departure frequency at a maximum rolling amplitude of 10° was the highest among all of rolling amplitudes, thereby enhancing the CHF. These results indicate that rolling motion significantly affects vapor behaviors and CHF.
The effect of loading path changes on the strain and mechanical properties of a commercial pure aluminum was studied using flat rolling and groove rolling. Material during flat rolling undergoes a continuous monotonic compressive loading, while one during groove rolling experiences a series of cross compressive loading. Four-pass flat rolling and groove rolling experiment are designed such that the aluminum undergoes the same amount of the strain at each pass. The rolling experiment was performed at room temperatures. Specimens for tensile test are fabricated from the plate and bar rolled. In addition, the strain distribution for the plate and bar cold rolled specimens is also calculated by finite element method. The results reveal that differences of loading path attributed by monotonic loading(flat rolling) and cross loading(groove rolling) significantly influence the mechanical properties such as yield stress, ultimate tensile stress, strain hardening and elongation. It is clear that the different loading path can give raise to change the deformation history, although it is deformed with same amount of strain for same material.
Magneto-rheological elastomer (MR elastomer) is a smart material, because it has mechanical properties that change under a magnetic field. An MR elastomer changes its stiffness characteristics when the inner particles (iron particles) align along the direction of a magnetic field. There has been much research to make use of this characteristic to control vibration issues in various mechanical systems, such as for mounting systems in the automotive field, home appliances, etc. Furthermore, the friction and wear properties of MR elastomer have been studied, as these relate to the durability of the material needed to meet engineering requirements. Rolling friction (or rolling resistance) is one of these friction properties, but has not yet been studied in the context of MR elastomers. In this study, an MR elastomer is fabricated in the shape of a hollow cylinder to evaluate the rolling friction characteristic under a magnetic field. The test apparatus is setup and a strain gauge is used to calculate the rolling resistance under test conditions. Permanent magnets are used to supply the magnetic field during tests. The load and rolling speed conditions are also considered for the tests. The test results show that rolling friction characteristic has a different trend under different magnetic field, load, and rolling speed conditions. It is assumed that the stiffness change of an MR elastomer under a magnetic field has an effect on the rolling friction characteristic of the MR elastomer. For the future work, the rolling friction characteristics of MR elastomers will be controlled by adjusting the strength of the magnetic field using electromagnets.
