A Study on Stress Distribution of Korean High Speed Train Wheel at Tread Braking (한국형 고속전철의 답면제동에 의한 차륜의 응력분포에 관한 연구)

  • The influence of thermal stress at tread breaking in Korean High Speed Train wheel was investigated using the coupled thermal-mechanical analysis technique. The mechanical load or wheel-rail contract load and braking load were considered during FEM analysis. During the stop braking, the effect of mechanical stress on the combined stress is relatively larger than that of thermal stress in the rim of wheel. However, the effect of thermal stress is relatively larger than that of mechanical stress in the plate of wheel. When 300% of the block force was applied, the maximum von Mises stress of 61.0 MPa was found at the outside plate around 400 mm far away from the wheel center.

Development of the Pin Type Load-cell Using Strain Gauge (Strain Gauge를 이용한 핀형 로드셀 개발)

  • A pin-type load-cell which uses shear-type strain gauges was developed to measure the tension of a wire in a winch. A finite element analysis was performed to determine the locations of the strain gauges. All of the shear-type strain gauges were attached onto parts that undergo regularly shear stress distributions. A Wheatstone bridge circuit was used to connect each of the gauges and to measure the strains. Linearity within the 5% error range was noted when testing the pin-type load-cell.

  • In this research work, nonlinear thermal buckling behavior of functionally graded (FG) plates is explored based a new higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). The present model has just four unknowns, by using a new supposition of the displacement field which enforces undetermined integral variables. A shear correction factor is, thus, not necessary. A power law distribution is employed to express the disparity of volume fraction of material distributions. Three kinds of thermal loading, namely, uniform, linear, and nonlinear and temperature rises over z-axis direction are examined. The non-linear governing equations are resolved for plates subjected to simply supported boundary conditions at the edges. The results are approved with those existing in the literature. Impacts of various parameters such as aspect and thickness ratios, gradient index, type of thermal load rising, on the non-dimensional thermal buckling load are all examined.

  • For testing a newly designed ship's steering gear, a steering gear test bench with a steering gear to be tested and a load generation part should be prepared. The load given to the steering gear has to be pertinent to the load generated in a targeted ship. In this study, the authors suggest a process of estimating the load given to steering gears in ships. At first, a test for measuring the load in the steering gear of a real ship was conducted. Then, a process was developed to compute rudder driving torque and force by using basic equations including some empirical equations on ship's steering. The test results and the computation results on the load in the steering gear were compared, As a result, the process suggested in this study for estimating load in ship's steering gears was verified.

  • The load distribution factor in the perforated square plate under concentrated load acting at arbitrary points through elastic media are calculated. For the calculation the perforated plate was converted into an orthotropic plate using the method suggested by J.B. Mahoney. In the process of the calculation the angle support at each corners was equivalent to a point support having equivalent stiffness. The deflections for the calculation of the load distribution factor were obtained using auxiliary plate extended in both directions of the plate and compared with the results from ANSYS calculations. After showing the validity of the current method, the calculation of the load distribution factor was performed. The result showed that the load distribution factor at the periphery of the plate is larger than that of in the central locations. This load distribution factor could be used for re-distribution of the applied load in more accurate analysis of the plate as well as it can be used in the analysis of the elastic media as the load factor.

  • The static tensile load bearing capability of as adhesively-bonded tubular single lap jint that is calculated usign the linear mechanical properties of adhesive is usually far from the experimentally determined because the majority of the load transfer of the adhesively-bonded jointd is accomplished by the nonlinear behavior of the rubber-toughened eoxy adhesive. In this paper, both the nonlinear mechanical properties and the fabrication residual thermal stresses of adhesive were included in the calculation of the stresses of adhesively-bonded joints. The onlinear tensile properties of adhesive were approximated by an exponential form which was represented by the initial tensile modulus and ultimate tensile stength of adhesive. The stress distribution in the adhesive were calculated by applying the load obtained from the tensile tests. From the tensile tests and the stress analysis of adhesively-bonded hoints, the failure model for adhesively-bonded tubular single lap joints was proposed.

  • In many application, LBLDCM is special-purpose devices in that, unlike their rotary counterparts, LBLDCM is tailored to specific needs. Whereas a rotary machine or a rotary motor interface with the mechanical systm through the shaft, a linear motor often interacts with the moving member(of the "rotor"), which is the mechanical system itself.   • This paper is concerned with the optimization of the drive for linear-guide press which is one of mechanical presses. The design of linear-guide drive for a mechanical press is introduced and the drive for the linear-guide press is optimized for the improvement of load and velocity characteristics. As a result of optimization, the load capacity during stroke increases and the slide velocity decreases in working region, respectively. The new design could be suited to many applications in precision forming such as extrusion and the sheet metal-forming processes.

Measurement of Shear Contact Characteristics on Mechanical Joints (기계 조인트의 전단 컨택 특성 측정)

  • An experimental method based on contact resonance is developed to extract the contact parameters of mechanical joints under various clamped conditions. Mechanical joint parameters of shear contact stiffness and damping were extracted for different physical joint parameters such as surface finish of the mating surfaces, the presence of lubrication, the effect of the clamping pressure, and shear load. It was found that the shear contact stiffness values decreased with increasing clamping load and increased with increasing shear loading. Contact damping ratio values were almost constant with clamping load, but decreased with increasing shear load. Moreover, rough surfaces exhibited the highest shear stiffness and contact damping compared to smooth surfaces.
