Finite Element Analysis of Capacitive pressure sensor with Touch mode for improving non-linearity (비선형성의 개선을 위한 Capacitive pressure sensor의 Touch mode 방식에 대한 유한요소 해석)

  • Capacitive pressure sensor는 Piezo type sensor에 비해 온도의 영향이 적어 공업계측, 전기용품 등 그 용도가 다양하여 폭넓게 사용되어지고 있지만, 측정값의 비선형성이 존재하여 측정값에 대한 신뢰도가 떨어지는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존 capacitive pressure sensor의 비선형적 output을 개선하기 위한 방법으로 touch mode capacitive pressure sensor를 제안하였다. 또한, 실제 Device제작에 앞서 FEM 해석을 수행하였다. 2mm X 2mm 크기의 diaphragm, $25{\mu}m$의 두께, $20{\mu}m$의 gap을 갖는 Sensor를 Simulation하였으며 설계 변수를 추출하여 각각의 설계변수에 대한 해석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 15.2psi${\sim}$31psi의 영역에서 8.58pF${\sim}$54.31pF의 capacitance가 선형적으로 나타나는 sensor임을 확인하였다.

  • Among the automotive steering systems, an Electric Power Assisted steering (EPAS) system utilizes an electronically controlled electric motor to provide steering assistance to the driver. The key components of the EPAS system are torque sensor, ECU (Electronic Control Unit), and DC Motor. The most important component of the EPAS is the torque sensor. The conventional torque sensor has complicated mechanical mechanism of torque detection. However, we suggest a non-contact torque sensor for EPAS using Maluss polarization law. It was found that the sensor exhibited not only excellent linearity but also superior characteristics of hysteresis, temperature and vibration.

  • The design of a reliable and failsafe control system requires that sensor failures be detected and identified within acceptable time limit so that system malfunction can be prevented. This paper presents a model-based approach to sensor fault detection with applications to vehicle stability control systems. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated through test data-based evaluation. Vehicle test data-based evaluation results show that the proposed fault management scheme can be used for the design of a failsafe VSCs.

An Integrated Sensor for Pressure, Temperature, and Relative Humidity Based on MEMS Technology

  • This paper presents an integrated multifunctional sensor based on MEMS technology, which can be used or embedded in mobile devices for environmental monitoring. An absolute pressure sensor, a temperature sensor and a humidity sensor are integrated in one silicon chip of which the size is $5mm\times5mm$. The pressure sensor uses a bulk-micromachined diaphragm structure with the piezoresistors. For temperature sensing, a silicon temperature sensor based on the spreading-resistance principle is designed and fabricated. The humidity sensor is a capacitive humidity sensor which has the polyimide film and interdigitated capacitance electrodes. The different piezoresistive orientation is used for the pressure and temperature sensor to avoid the interference between sensors. Each sensor shows good sensor characteristics except for the humidity sensor. However, the linearity and hysteresis of the humidity sensor can be improved by selecting the proper polymer materials and structures.

  • This paper presents a sensor fusion method to recognize a cylindrical object a CCD camera, a laser slit beam and ultrasonic sensors on a pan/tilt device. For object recognition with a vision sensor, an active light source projects a stripe pattern of light on the object surface. The 2D image data are transformed into 3D data using the geometry between the camera and the laser slit beam. The ultrasonic sensor uses an ultrasonic transducer array mounted in horizontal direction on the pan/tilt device. The time of flight is estimated by finding the maximum correlation between the received ultrasonic pulse and a set of stored templates - also called a matched filter. The distance of flight is calculated by simply multiplying the time of flight by the speed of sound and the maximum amplitude of the filtered signal is used to determine the face angle to the object. To determine the position and the radius of cylindrical objects, we use a statistical sensor fusion. Experimental results show that the fused data increase the reliability for the object recognition.

  • In this paper, a hybrid sensor is proposed that has two capabilities: the first is to sense longitudinal or flexural transient vibration signals selectively which are transmitted along the target shaft, and the second to measure the rotating speed of the shaft. All measurements are made in a non-contact manner since this sensor uses magnetostriction as its measuring principle. The signal selection between two vibration modes requires only electrical switching operations and the switching between these two sensing capabilities-vibrations and rotational speed-are accomplished by a very simple mechanical operation. To verify the capabilities of the proposed sensor, a prototype sensor is fabricated and the experiments are made. The results show this sensor can embody two sensing capabilities in one sensor configuration.

  • In this paper the tactile sensor system based on the bending loss of optical fiber sensor is presented. The sensor array was designed with fabric structure. The optical measuring system was composed of LED for light source and CCD camera for the signal light detector. Performance of this tactile sensor system was evaluated in various environments and compared with Harmon's design criteria. The result shows that load range is 3 g$\sim$100 g, resolution is 1.5 g, hysteresis error is 1.5%. The response linearity is good and flexibility of sensor array is excellent.

  • This paper describes development of a new displacement sensor for intelligent suspension system in which the damping force has been controlled by MR fluid. Most of the current vehicle height sensors have been installed at external place of the damper and connected to that by mechanical linkages so far. The developed sensor has a new mechanism which detects movement of the sensor rod same as connecting rod in the suspension damper by using a GMR Sensor and converts it to the relative displacement from an initial position.

  • An analysis model is proposed for the performance prediction of typical ball and tube type mechanical crash sensors based upon mass-spring-viscous gas damping idealization. Also a construction of mechanical crash pulse generator is suggested as an experimental tool for calibration and verification of model predictions. A sensor tuning procedure for a particular set of crash pulses is suggested based upon the analysis model and the experimental tools.

  • A robot system is proposed to realize coordinated motion of two arm robot. Due to a 3-D vision sensor, precise coordinated motions could be realized. Using a sophisticated IC chip, real time image processing could be executed using a simple circuit.
