In this study mechanical properties of various fiber reinforced permeability concrete mixtures are investigated. Several mixes with fiber kinds(steel fiber, polyprophylen fiber, carbon fiber) and different fiber content(steel fiber : 0.3~0.9vol.%, polyprophylen fiber : 0.1~0.5vol.%, carbon fiber : 0.2~0.7vol.%) were studied. Test results are presented in terms of compressive strength, tensile-flexural strength and load-deflection behavior. The effect of fiber reinforcement does not increase the compressive strength of permeability concrete without fiber. Also, the tensile-flexural strength using various fibers are appeared good strength increase as conventional fiber reinforced concrete. Therefore, use of fiber for permeability concrete is necessary to improve of tensile-flexural properties and deformation performance(toughness).
Statement of problem: Increasing demand of esthetic restorations made lots of kinds of ceramic materials. Among them, zirconia has been being focused by many dentists. But, mechanical properties of zirconia were still unclear. Purpose : The purposes of this study were to analyze the flexural strength of various zirconia ceramics which had been currently used for clinic i.e., In-Ceram Zirconia(Vita Zahnfabrik, Bad $S\"{a}ckingen$, Germany), Celay Zirconia(Vita Zahnfabrik, Bad $S\"{a}ckingen$, Germany) and CAD/CAM Zirconia (Adens Zi-Ceram. Seoul , Korea). Material and methods: The four point bending test(ASTM Cl161) was used to measure the flexural strength of a specimen before and after circular heat treatment and fatigue loading. Results : 1. The average value of flexural strengths of CAD/CAM Zirconia, Celay Zirconia, In-Ceram Zirconia in dry condition were 806.5 MPa, 669.9 MPa, 605.6 MPa, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in strength among the types (P<0.05). 2. After thermocycling, the average flexural strengths of CAD/CAM Zirconia, Celay Zirconia, In-Ceram Zirconia were 791.2 MPa, 604.2 MPa, 605.4 MPa, respectively. CAD/CAM Zirconia showed statistically significant higher strength(P<0.05). The others showed no significant difference after thermocycling(P>0.05). 3. After fatigue loading in wet condition. the average flexural strengths of CAD/CAM Zirconia, Celay Zirconia, In-Ceram Zirconia were 806.0 MPa, 674.9 MPa, 601.7 MPa, respectively. There was a significant difference in strength among the types(P<0.05). 4. There was no statistically significant difference in strength of the specimens according to experimental methods except for before and after thermocycling in Celay Zirconia(P>0.05). Conclusion: Besides high esthetic quality, zirconia had sufficiently high mechanical strength.
An experimental investigation of mechanical properties of jute fiber-reinforced concrete (JFRC) has been reported for making a suitable construction material in terms of fiber reinforcement. Two jute fiber reinforced concretes, called jute fiber reinforced normal strength concrete (JFRNSC) and jute fiber-reinforced high-fluidity concrete (JFRHFC), were tested in compression, flexure and splitting tension. Compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strengths of specimens were investigated to four levels of jute fiber contents by volume fraction. From the test results, Jute fiber can be successfully used for normal strength concrete (NSC) and high-fluidity concrete (HFC). Particularly, HFC with jute fibers shows relatively higher improvement of strength property than that of normal strength concrete.

The brittleness of concrete can be overcome by fiber reinforcement that controls the crack mechanisms of concrete. Corrosion-related durability issues can be prevented by synthetic fibers (SFs), while macro synthetic fibers have proven to be particularly effective to provide ductility and toughness after cracks. This experimental study has been performed to investigate the comparative flexural and mechanical behavior of four different macro-synthetic fiber-reinforced concretes (SFRCs). Two polyamide fibers (SF1 and SF2) with different aspect ratios and two different polypropylene fiber types (SF3 and SF4) were used in production of SFRCs. Four different SFRCs and reference concrete were compared for their influences on the toughness, compressive strength, elastic modulus, flexural strength, residual strength and splitting tensile strength. The outcomes of the study reveal that the flowability of reference mixture decreases after addition of SFs and the air voids of all SFRC mixtures increased with the addition of macro-synthetic fibers except SFRC2 mixture whose air content is the same as the reference mixture. The results also revealed that with the inclusion of SFs, 11.34% reduction in the cube compressive strength was noted for SFRC4 based on that of reference specimens and both reference concrete and SFRC exhibited nearly similar cylindrical compressive strength. Results illustrated that SFRC1 and SFRC4 mixtures consistently provide the highest and lowest flexural toughness values of 36.4 joule and 27.7 joule respectively. The toughness values of SFRC3 and SFRC4 are very near to each other.

This research investigated the mechanical performance of slurry infiltrated high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite (SI-HPFRCC) with high volume blast furnace slag powder. Hooked-end steel fibers (volume fraction of 6.4%) were used for the fabrication of SI-HPFRCC. A series of mechanical performance test was conducted including strength and toughness of SI-HPFRCC in compressive and flexural mode at four different ages. Compressive and flexural strength tests of the slurry matrix at the same ages were also conducted in order to evaluate fiber reinforcing effect on the mechanical performance. The flexural response of SI-HPFRCC shows an increasing brittleness with age. The compressive response also shows an increasing brittleness with age but the degree of brittleness is much lower than the flexural case. In terms of strength, SI-HPFRCC shows about 140~190% of compressive strength improvement and 440~500% flexural strength improvement comparing to the slurry matrix.

The efficiency of complex slurry preparation route for developing the high performance SiC matrix of $RS-SiC_{f}/SiC$ composites has been investigated. The green bodies for RS-SiC materials prior to the infiltration of molten silicon were prepared with various C/SiC complex slurries, which associated with both the sizes of starting SiC particles and the blending conditions of starting SiC and C particles. The characterization of Rs-SiC materials was examined by means of SEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, the process optimization is also discussed. The flexural strength of Rs-SiC materials greatly depended on the content of residual Si. The decrease of starting SiC particle size in the C/SiC complex slurry was effective for improving the flexural strength of RS-SiC materials.
This paper presents an experimentally investigation pertinent to the mechanical properties of rubberized mortar (RM) with styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The SBR were used with constant water-to-cement ratio of 0.485 and two different volume proportion of SBR particles were utilized as aggregates. One types of SBR particles with fineness modulus of 4.951 were utilized 0%, 10%, and 20% of aggregate volume. Effectiveness of SBR replacement ratio, curing and aging effect on the compressive strength, flexural strengths as well as load-displacement. Compressive and flexural strength of concrete were investigated at the end of 28-days and 56-days age. Obtained results demonstrated that utilization of SBR reduced the flexural strength of SBR mortar at the earlier curing age while SBR increased. Moreover, mechanical properties of mortar mentioned above were significantly affected by the water cure timing with an increasing proportion of the replacement level of SBR.

We studied the antibacterial effect and mechanical properties of PLA composites with in organic porous zeolite-type bacteriocides. The specimens were prepared by an intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder using different contents of inorganic bacteriocide. The degree of dispersion of the in organic bacteriocide in the PLA composite was confirmed by FE-SEM. The contents of Ag and Zn in the composite were also investigated by energy dispersive spectroscopy at different concentrations of the inorganic bacteriocide. The antibacterial effects were analyzed by turbidity analysis, shaking culture, and drop-test. The mechanical properties, such as the tensile and flexural properties, impact strength, and physical properties, were also investigated. As the content of inorganic bacteriocide increased, the antibacterial activity was increased, especially against Staphylococcus aureus. Mechanical properties, namely, tensile strength, elongation, flexural strength, and impact strength, tended to decrease with an increase in inorganic bacteriocide content, but the tensile and flexural modulus increased.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate influence of mechanical properties of gingival shade composite resins(GSCRs) according to thermocycling treatment. Methods: The material utilized in this study was Crea.lign(CGR), Twiny flow(TGF) and Twiny(TGP). Total sixty specimens were fabricated with a dimension of $25{\times}2{\times}2mm$ according to the ISO 4049. After fabrications, specimens of before and after thermocycling(to $55^{\circ}C$ from $5^{\circ}C$) were stored in the distilled water for 24 hours at the $37^{\circ}C$. Three-point flexural test was performed in universal testing machine(Instron 5966, USA) at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Flexural strength, flexural modulus and work of fracture according to the thermocycling were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA analysis. Surface analysis of GSCRs after thermocycling evaluated using the scanning electron microscope. Results: : The highest FS was measured in TGP group of NTC group and lowest in CGR group after TC. After TC, FS and FM decreased in CGR and TGP groups, but TGF increased. There was a statistically significant difference between FS and WOF in GSCRs(p<0.05). But FM did not show any significant difference after TC (p>0.05). The strength of the characteristic exceeded the flexural strength required by ISO 4049(> 80 MPa). Weibull modulus(m) showed the highest reliability in the TGP group (m = 14.22), and the reliability of the TGF and TGP groups after TC decreased. Conclusion: Thermocycling treatment is important factor influence of mechanical properties with gingival shade composite resins. Therefore, we recommended that mechanical properties need to get useful information and accuracy for life-span expectancy according to the thermocycling treatment.
In this paper, mechanical and hygroscopic properties of teak sawdust and recycled polypropylene (RPP) composites are evaluated and compared with virgin polypropylene (VPP) matrix based composites. Verities of composites are prepared by variation in the plastic types, wood plastic ratio and the addition of coupling agent in the formulations. Mixing of wood sawdust and polypropylene is done by a twin screw extruder, and then sheets of wood plastic composites (WPCs) are produced by using the compression molding method. The results show that recycled matrix composites exhibit better tensile, flexural strength with low impact strength than virgin matrix based composites. Recycled composites show low water absorption and thickness of swelling than virgin matrix based composites. The results confirm that wood content in the polymer matrix affects the performance of composites while presence maleated polypropylene (MAPP) improves the properties of the composites significantly. Developed RPP matrix composites are as useful as VPP matrix composites and have the potential to replace the wood and plastics products without any adverse effect of the plastics on the environment.
