The objective of the current study is to determine cross-sectional profile of intermediate dies in order to improve the plastic strain homogeneity which directly affects not only the dimensional accuracy but also the mechanical properties of final product by redesigning the intermediate dies using the conventional electric field analysis (EFA) method. Initially, the multi-pass shape wire drawing was designed by using the equivalent potential lines from EFA. The area reduction ratio was calculated from the number of passes in multi-pass shape wire drawing but constrained by the capacity of the drawing machine and the drawing force. In order to compensate for a concentration of strain in a region of the cross section of the wire, the process for multi pass wire drawing from initial round material to an intermediate die was redesigned again using the electric field analysis. Both drawing process designs were simulated by the finite element method in which the strain distribution and standard deviation plastic strain of the cross section of drawn wires were examined.
High Modulus and high tenacity polypropylene fibers have been prepared by drawing on a gradient heater. Results show that fiber properties are significantly affected by temperature profiles of final stage drawing on a gradient heater. The gradient drawn filaments showed superior mechanical properties when compared to filaments drawn over a constant temperature heater. Fibers with initial modulus of 16.4 GPa and tenacity of 670 MPa have been manufactured in the process. The nature of the gradient drawing had a significant effect on end properties. The superior mechanical properties are attributed to the high crystal perfection and crystallinity and low void fractions obtained at high draw ratios when drawn over a gradient heater.

Micron-sized metal wires are widely used in industries such as filtration, catalyst and composite materials, etc. In the wire drawing process, the die that is used conventionally is an effective and, at the same time, sensitive component. However, a typical array of the dies has caused many problems in the wire drawing process, e.g., large frictional force on the interface between wire and the resulting high heat generation, precise adjustment of the dies, extended cooling system, die abrasion, etc.. Because of these problems, there have been many works that are aiming at improving the efficiency of wire drawing process by analyzing the die geometry and by applying advanced die material to prolong the die life or even at developing a dieless wire drawing system. This paper is dealing with developing a new wire drawing system that is applicable to reduce the wire drawing steps with high draw ratio. The new wire drawing system does not use the dies, but use the self-induced heater that works on the basis of the resonant phenomenon of wire material. The electromagnetic wave is the heating source. The results of the study on the diameter reduction and microwave flow analysis show that the heating effectiveness of the wire is influenced by the energy distribution in the microwave propagation chamber. We can obtain diameter-reduced wires by using microwave in the dieless drawing process. Microwave as a heating source is capable of producing wires without applying dies in wire drawing process.

An ecpert system for rotationally symmetric deep drawing products has been developed. The application for non-axisymmetric components, however, has not been reported yet. This study construsctus and expert system for non-axisymmetric motor frame which shape is classified into ellipse in deep draqing process and investigates process sequence design with elliptical shape. The developed system consists of four modules. The first is recognition of calculate surface area for non-axisymmetric products. The third is blank design module the creates an oval-shaped blank with the same surface area. The fourth is a processplanning module based on production rules that play the best important roles in an expert system for manufacturing .The production rules are generated and upgraded by interviewing field engineers. Especially, drawing coefficient, punch and die radii for elliptical shape products are considered as main design parameters. The constructed system for elliptical deep drawing product would be very useful to reduce lead time and improve accuracy for products.
In sheet metal forming process, drawing is typical process. And the key factor of drawing is blank holding force (BHF) A low BHF can cause wrinkling, whereas a high BHF can cause fracture during a deep drawing process. Thus, formability can be influenced by application appropriate BHF. In this study, a variable blank holding force (VBHF) is applied to extend the forming limit by avoiding both wrinkling and fracture. To determine VBHF in drawing process, numerical simulations and statistical analysis are carried out using commercial FEM software.

The shell body is the main exterior part of a compressor, and production of shell bodies has increased along with a growing demand for air conditioners, refrigerators, air compressors, and so on. Cracks frequently occur in the process of welding a shell body. In this study, a deep drawing process for creating a shell body from a blank is developed. The technique consists of a four-step deep drawing and a two-step trimming process. Analysis is performed by DEFORM software to examine the safety of the deep drawing and trimming processes. The deep drawing process for the shell body developed in this study would have wide application in many industrial fields.

In current study, Nanocomposites are reinforced with carbon nanofiber, carbon nanotube and SiC, etc. Since the nano reinforcements have the excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties compared with that of existing composites, it has lately attracted considerable attention in the various areas. Cu have been widely used as signal transmission materials for electrical electronic components owing to its high electrical conductivity. However, it's size have been limited to small ones due to its poor mechanical properties. Until now, strengthening of the copper alloy was obtained either by the solid solution and precipitation hardening by adding alloy elements or the work hardening by deformation process. Adding the alloy elements lead to reduction of electrical conductivity. In this aspect, if carbon nanofiber is used as reinforcement which have outstanding mechanical strength and electric conductivity, it is possible to develope Cu matrix nanocomposite having almost no loss of electric conductivity. It is expected to be innovative in electric conducting material market. The unidirectional alignment of carbon nanofiber is the most challenging task developing the cooer matrix composites of high strength and electric conductivity. In this study, the unidirectional alignment of carbon nanofibers which is used reinforced material are controlled by drawing process and align mechanism as well as optimized drawing process parameter are verified via numerical analysis. The materials used in this study were pure copper and the nanofibers of 150nm in diameter and of 10∼20$\mu\textrm{m}$ in length. The materials have been tested and the tensile strength was 75MPa with the elongation of 44% for the copper. it is assumed that carbon nanofiber behave like porous elasto-plastic materials. Compaction test was conducted to obtain constitutive properties of carbon nanofiber Optimal parameter for drawing process was obtained by analytical and numerical analysis considering the various drawing angles, reduction areas, friction coefficient, etc. The lower drawing angles and lower reduction areas provides the less rupture of co tube is noticed during the drawing process and the better alignment of carbon nanofiber is obtained.

Both cylindrical cup drawing and square cup drawing are analyzed using membrane analysis as well as shell analysis by the elastic-plastic finite element method. An incremental formulation incorporating the effect of large deformation and normal anisotropy is used for the analysis of elastic-plastic non-steady deformation. The computed results are compared with the existing experimental results to show the validity of the analysis. Comparisons are made in the punch load and distribution of thickness strain between the membrane analysis and the shell analysis for both cylindrical and square cup drawing processes. In punch load, both analyses show very little difference and also show generally good agreement with the experiment. For the cylindrical cup deep drawing, the computed thickness strain of a membrane analysis, however, shows a wide difference with the experiment. In the shell analysis, the thickness strain shows good agrement with the experiment. For the square cup deep drawing, both membrane and shell analyses show a wide difference with experiment, this may be attributable to the ignorance of the shear deformation. Concludingly, it has been shown that the membrane approach shows a limitation for the deep drawing process in which the effect of bending is not negligible and more exact information on the thickness strain distribution is required.

The developed system is based on the knowledge base system which is involved a lot of expert's technology in the practice field. Using AutoLISP language under the AutoCAD system, CTK customer language of SmartCAM is used as the overall CAD/CAM environment. Results of this system will be provide effective aids to the designer and manufacturer in this field.
Hot stamping is an effective and suitable process widely used in automotive applications, though critical issues such as the transfer of the coating materials and build-up of these materials on tool surfaces have been encountered. Past researches figured out the resultant wear phenomenon using pin-on-disc and drawing (for example, strip drawing and deep drawing) methods to mimic the process and analyzed the wear behavior with respect to the influencing factors such as surface coating, load, and roughness. Although the pin-on-disc is a conventional and widely-used method, it presented a methodological limitation when simulating the hot stamping process by forming a new blank each time, and hence, a drawing-based friction method has been proposed and developed. Each drawing method applies loads in a different way, resulting in a different wear behavior. Notably, the deep drawing process is most similar to the hot stamping process compared to other drawing methods. In this paper we present a review of the friction testing methods mimicking the hot stamping process and the associated wear behavior. This can be helpful in presenting a step-by-step approach and different perspectives on the wear behavior in the hot stamping process.
