  • The feed drive inclination significantly influences product quality, machine tool accuracy and life time. However, the accurate measurement of the inclination needs the skilled engineers and the accurate leveling instruments such as spirits or electric levels. In this study a novel methodology for the estimation of inclination angle of machine tool feed drive is proposed. The proposed methodology utilizes the motor current signals and a new mathematical model of machine tool feed drive considering inclination. The experiment results showed that the proposed method successfully estimates the inclination angle, as well as newly proposed model also enhances the accuracy of the machine tool feed drive model by introducing the inclination effects.

  • Research about tool condition monitoring has been done until now for product automation and unmaned system. But it is hard to apply it to the industrial field due to its cost and reliability. This paper presents the new method of tool wear measurement using Marpos gauge. This is a kind of touch sensor, so its cost is lower than vision system. And it is not affected by dust and illumination, which are important in vision system. This proposed method use tool clearance angle to measure flank wear. Experimental results compared with vision system shows that this method is available for tool condition monitoring system.

  • Detection of tool wear is very important in automated manufacturing. This paper presents tool condition monitoring system based on the wavelet analysis of the AC servo motro current in drilling and milling process. The current measurement system is relatively simple and its mounting will not affect machining operations. The discrete wavelet transform was used to decompose the current signal of a spindle AC servo motor in time - frequency domain. The feature vectors were extracted from the decomposed signals and compared for normal and wear condition. The results show the possibility for the effective application of wavelet analysis to tool condition monitoring.

  • The use of error compensation techniques has been recognized as an effective way in the improvement of the accuracy of a machine tool. The laser measurement method for identifying position errors of machine tool has the disadvantages such as high cost, long calibration time and usage of volumetric error synthesis model. Accordingly, this paper deals with analysis of the position errors of a machine tool using ball bar test without using complicated error synthesis model. Statistical analysis method was adopted in this paper for deriving position errors using hemispherical helix ball bar test.

  • Recently, with the development of semiconductor technology the miniaturization of products as well as parts and the products with high precision are being required. In addition as a national competitive power is increasingly effected by micro part development through micro machining and the secure of micro machining technology, the study of micro machining technology is being conducted in many countries. The goal of this study is to fabricate micro tool under the size of 30$\mu\textrm{m}$ and machine micro holes through micro tool fabrication by grinding, the application of ELID to grinding wheel and the measurement of surface roughness for micro tool.

  • Temperature distribution on the flank face in orthogonal turning with cutting tool of high speed steel is studied by using a finite element method and experiments. Experiments are carried out to verify the validity of the temperature measurement by using a thermoelectric couple junciton imbedded in a cutting tool of high speed steel. Good agreement is obtained between the analytical results and the experimental ones for the temperature distributions on flank face of cutting tool with igh speed steel. The analytical results show that the temperature on the top flank face of a tool is higher because of the difference of the friction velocity on each face of the tool.

Application of Gamma Ray Densitometry in Powder Metallurgy

  • The most important industrial application of gamma radiation in characterizing green compacts is the determination of the density. Examples are given where this method is applied in manufacturing technical components in powder metallurgy. The requirements imposed by modern quality management systems and operation by the workforce in industrial production are described. The accuracy of measurement achieved with this method is demonstrated and a comparison is given with other test methods to measure the density. The advantages and limitations of gamma ray densitometry are outlined. The gamma ray densitometer measures the attenuation of gamma radiation penetrating the test parts (Fig. 1). As the capability of compacts to absorb this type of radiation depends on their density, the attenuation of gamma radiation can serve as a measure of the density. The volume of the part being tested is defined by the size of the aperture screeniing out the radiation. It is a channel with the cross section of the aperture whose length is the height of the test part. The intensity of the radiation identified by the detector is the quantity used to determine the material density. Gamma ray densitometry can equally be performed on green compacts as well as on sintered components. Neither special preparation of test parts nor skilled personnel is required to perform the measurement; neither liquids nor other harmful substances are involved. When parts are exhibiting local density variations, which is normally the case in powder compaction, sectional densities can be determined in different parts of the sample without cutting it into pieces. The test is non-destructive, i.e. the parts can still be used after the measurement and do not have to be scrapped. The measurement is controlled by a special PC based software. All results are available for further processing by in-house quality documentation and supervision of measurements. Tool setting for multi-level components can be much improved by using this test method. When a densitometer is installed on the press shop floor, it can be operated by the tool setter himself. Then he can return to the press and immediately implement the corrections. Transfer of sample parts to the lab for density testing can be eliminated and results for the correction of tool settings are more readily available. This helps to reduce the time required for tool setting and clearly improves the productivity of powder presses. The range of materials where this method can be successfully applied covers almost the entire periodic system of the elements. It reaches from the light elements such as graphite via light metals (AI, Mg, Li, Ti) and their alloys, ceramics ($AI_20_3$, SiC, Si_3N_4, $Zr0_2$, ...), magnetic materials (hard and soft ferrites, AlNiCo, Nd-Fe-B, ...), metals including iron and alloy steels, Cu, Ni and Co based alloys to refractory and heavy metals (W, Mo, ...) as well as hardmetals. The gamma radiation required for the measurement is generated by radioactive sources which are produced by nuclear technology. These nuclear materials are safely encapsulated in stainless steel capsules so that no radioactive material can escape from the protective shielding container. The gamma ray densitometer is subject to the strict regulations for the use of radioactive materials. The radiation shield is so effective that there is no elevation of the natural radiation level outside the instrument. Personal dosimetry by the operating personnel is not required. Even in case of malfunction, loss of power and incorrect operation, the escape of gamma radiation from the instrument is positively prevented.

초정밀가공기용 타원 진동절삭 공구대의 설계 및 성능실험 (Design and Test of Elliptical Vibration Assisted Cutting Tool Post for Ultra-precision Machines)

  • This paper presents the design and test of elliptical vibration assisted cutting tool post. It is actuated by two piezoelectric actuators which are connected to the moving part through the elastic hinge with its role of imposing the preliminary pressures. These two actuators are located at right angles so that the resulting tool tip moves like a two-dimensional ellipse. Also, the tool post is activated within the region of linear actuation in order to overcome the distorted elliptical motion. For the precise measurement of the displacement of the tool tip, three-dimensional experimental apparatus was designed and the strokes of the tool post in major and minor axes were measured. The results show that the tool post can produce the variety of vibration locus from a circle with a radius of 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to an ellipse with a major axis, a =10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and a minor axis, b =2.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$

우리나라 도시지역의 식환경 측정을 위한 조사도구 개발 및 신뢰도 검정 - 식품상점을 중심으로 - (Developing and testing the reliability of a measurement tool for an urban area food environment in Korea - Focusing on food stores -)

  • 본 연구는 도시지역의 식품상점 환경을 측정하기 위한 조사도구를 개발하고, 활용가능성 및 신뢰도를 검증하기 위해 실시하였다. 문헌고찰을 통해 기 개발된 식품상점 조사도구를 검토하여, 우리나라 실정에 맞는 식환경 조사도구를 개발하였고, 크게 식품상점의 특성, 접근성, 식품의 이용가능성에 대한 문항으로 구성하였다. 개발된 조사도구의 현장 적용성 검토를 위해 소요시간, 응답수월성, 참여의사, 현장조사의 어려움, 사용된 용어의 적절성 등을 평가한 결과, 조사시간이 상점의 특성에 따라 차이가 있다는 점을 제외하고는, 모든 측면에서 현장적용성이 높았다. 그리고 식품의 이용가능성 문항에 대해 신뢰도를 검증한 결과, 조사자간 및 조사자내 일치율이 매우 높았다. 건강이 강조된 식품의 경우에는 일반식품에 비해 상대적으로 일치율이 낮았으나, 여전히 높은 일치율 수준을 보였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 식환경 조사도구는 현장적용성과 신뢰도가 높은 것이 확인되었으므로, 추후에 객관적인 식환경 측정이 필요한연구에 다양하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
