  • Patients with hemiplegia usually show different body weight distribution as compared with normal subjects. Asymmetrical posture during static stance has been identified as a common problem in patients with hemiplegia. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of vision and visual feedback on body weight distribution while standing under three conditions: eyes-closed, eyes-open and visual feedback condition. Fourteen patients with hemiplegia participated in the study. Their body weight distribution during standing for 20 seconds was measured by Limloader. The data were analysed by repeated measure of one-way ANOVA. The weight bearing on the paretic limb in the eyes-open condition was significantly higher than that of the eyes-closed condition. The weight bearing on the parietic limb in the visual feedback condition was significantly higher than that of the eyes-open condition. These results suggest that patients with hemiplegia can improve their symmetrical stance ability using visual feedback.

  • When concrete is placed underwater, it is diluted with separating cementitious material and as a result the quality of concrete becomes poor. To solve this problem, antiwashout underwater concrete is increasingly used for the construction and repair of the concrete structure underwater. The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of antiwashout underwater concrete as to the mix proportion, casting and curing water through experimental researches. The unit weight of water and cement, water-cement ratio, fine aggregate ratio, unit weight of antiwashout underwater agent and superplasticizer, and casting and curing water were chosen to measure the suspended solids, pH, air contents, slump flow, unit weight of hardened concrete, and compressive strength. From this study, the incremental modulus at mix proportion design and unit weight of antiwashout underwater agent were increased more than fresh water, and it is a optimum mix proportion that the unit weight of water(and cement) is 230kg/$\textrm{m}^3$(460kg/$\textrm{m}^3$), waterOcement ratio is 50%, fine aggregate ratio is 40%, unit weight of antiwashout underwater agent is 1.2% of water contents per unit weight of concrete, and unit weight of supeplasticizer is 2.5% of cement contents per unit weight of concrete when the antiwashout underwater concrete is used for the underwater work of ocean.

  • Growth analysis and selection of sea cucumbers (Stichopus japonicas) is typically performed through length or weight measurements. However, because sea cucumbers continuously change shape depending on the external environment, weight measurement has been the preferred approach. Weight measurements require extensive time and labor, moreover it is often difficult to accurately weigh sea cucumbers because of their wet surface. The present study measured sea cucumber features, including the body length, width, and thickness, by using a vision system and regression analysis to generate $R^2$ values that were used to develop a weight estimation algorithm. The $R^2$ value between the actual volume and weight of the sea cucumbers was 0.999, which was relatively high. Evaluation of the performance of this algorithm using cross-validation showed that the root mean square error and worst-case prediction error were 1.434 g and ${\pm}5.879g$, respectively. In addition, the present study confirmed that the proposed weight estimation algorithm and single slide rail device for weight measurement can measure weights at approximately 4,500 sea cucumbers per hour.

  • A total of 240 crossbred(Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire ${\times}$ Duroc) pigs were housed from 70 kg live weight and slaughtered at weights of 95, 105, 115 and 125 kg. The left side loins of carcass were obtained at 24 hr postmortem to measure pork quality. There were significant differences(p<0.01) in eye muscle area of pork loins between the slaughter weights of 95 and 105 kg. However, no differences were observed in pork than 105 kg of slaughter weight. Ultimate pH values were decreased with increasing slaughter weight and cooking loss was also reduced(p<0.01) at the heavier weights. Slaughter weights did not affect the shear force and intramuscular fat. However, dry matter(DM) and crude protein(CP) contents of loin were increased, and cooking loss and sarcomere length were decreased with increasing slaughter weight. The lightness(L$^{*}$) and redness(a$^{*}$) of pork loin were increased with increasing slaughter weight. Results suggested that pork quality may be improved when pig slaughter weight is increased from 95 to 125 kg.

  • In this paper, sensor system and inspection algorithm in order to inspect steel balance weight for automobile is described. Steel balance weight is composed of clip and weight, which is joined by press process. The defective one has a gap between clip and weight. To detect whether there is a gap, sensor system is simply configured with laser line projector and USB camera, which make it possible to measure the height difference of clip and weight area. Laser line pattern which is made on the surface of a balance weight is captured by USB camera. In case that USB camera is used in machine vision, barrel distortion caused by wide angle lens makes the captured image distorted. Image warping function is applied to correct the distortion. Simple image processing algorithm is applied to extract the laser line information and whether it is good or not is judged through the extracted information.

  • Wheelchair users have a difficulty in managing their weight because there is lack of measure systems and even though the users have the system, it costs too much. Thus, purpose of this study is for developing the portable weight scale automatic device to help wheelchair users by monitoring their weight on the wheelchairs in real time. Portable weight scale automatic device composed by four strain gauges, and the device was connected with mobile phone so that wheelchair users were able to check their weight in real time. In order to evaluate the device performance, 10 normal subjects and 10 disabled subjects participated in this study. The subjects' truth weight and measured weight by the device are compared. The weigh difference within normal subjects was $0.75{\pm}0.80kg$, and the weigh difference within disabled subjects was $1.02{\pm}0.74kg$. Difference between the truth weigh and the measured weigh were not statistically different. The reason for this error occurred is inaccuracy of the loadcell installation and calibration. If this problems get solved, the measured indicator is expected to help wheelchair users to manage their weight.

  • The patients with hemiplegia show different body weight distribution as compared to normal subjects. These patients load their body weight more on sound leg than affected leg. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of foot placement under three conditions: forward, intermediate, and backward placement, on body weight distribution and time needed to rise while assuming sit-to-stand. Fourteen patients with hemiplegia participated in the study. Their body weight distributions during sit-to-stand under the three different conditions were measured by a limb loader and time needed to rise was measured by a stopwatch. The data were analysed by the repeated measure of one-way ANOVA. Statistical Analysis demonstrated that body weight distribution was less asymmetric in backward foot placement. The difference of body weight bearing rate between sound leg and affected leg was significantly decreased as foot placement moved from forward to backward. These results show that backward foot placement during sit-to-stand make patient with henuplegia distribute their body weight more evenly on the lower extremity.

  • Gait is defined as "a manor of walking". It can used as a biometric measure to recognize known persons. Gait is an idiosyncratic feature determined by an individual's weight, stride length, and posture combined with characteristic motion. but its feature extracted from images varies with the viewpoint. In this paper, we propose a gait recognition method using a planer homography, which is robust for viewpoint variation. We represent an individual as key-silhouettes. And we endow key-silhouettes with weight calculated using the characteristic of PCA. Experimental result shows that proposed method is robust for viewpoint variation as images synthesised same viewpoint.
