  • Electronic speckle pattern interferometry has many applications in science and engineering. Among these, vibration measurement is the area where ESPI has many advantages over other techniques. We developed a stroboscopic ESPI system to measure the harmonic vibration of a piece of copper tape attached to a circular hole structure. Figure 1 shows the schematic diagram of the stroboscopic ESPI system. (omitted)

  • This study was initiated to collect background pollutant data for rural watersheds. The effluent/run-off polutant load and run-off ratio of the study areas were calculated and the two types of regression equations, L=a$.$Q+b and L=c$.$Qd where L and Q are the pollutant load(L) and discharge (Q), were derived. We acquired that the correlation coeffcients of the two types of regression equations were over than 90% except for BOD . Therefore, L-Q equations would be a measure to predict water quality of rural watersheds.

  • In Korea mid chord offset method has been used to measure the track irregularities. This method has been also used all over the world widely because of its accessibility and the operational excellence for measured data. But it has been pointed out recently that track irregularities reconstructed from measured data have unexpected noise in the high frequency area as the defect of this way. This study shows the cause of noise which occurs during reconstructing process and mentions the solutions briefly.

  • A small temperature sensor is designed in a 0.35um CMOS process. Transistors operating in the intermediate inversion region are employed in the core of the sensor. This temperature sensor operates in $-50^{\circ}C{\sim}120^{\circ}C$ with ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$ of accuracy after two-point calibration. This temperature sensor can be placed in the active pixel area of a display panel to measure the temperature of the display panel for temperature compensation.

  • For motion analysis electromagnetic sensors are often used to measure positions and orientations of human subjects. It is observed from several experiments of the Ergonomics Research group that there exist systematic errors and unexpected serious distortions due to some metal masses in the test area. A calibration process is necessary to fix these errors. In this article three models are proposed to correct position measurement errors based on observations from calibration experiments.

  • Focusing on the strength of son preference obtained from two surveys of the same area, an attempt has been made to measure the change on the IS value scale that many have occurred over the last seven-year period, the underlying assumption here being that the strength of son preference wanes in inverse proportion to the level of society's socio-economic development. Various methodological approaches have been put to test to weigh the importance of the sex preference as a dependent variable, as an independent variable, and as an intermediate variable. A few methodological issues are suggested.

  • In this paper, a system to measure treeing degradation phenomena in organic insulating materials, using an image sensor, is discussed. Using an image processing technique, tree features immediately after tree initiation as well as changes in the configuration of the tree were measured. which up to now have been extremely difficult to observe by conventional visual methods. As a result, it was possible to record the image of tree propagation immediately after its first appearance, and to describe the specific characteristics of tree growth in terms of the length, the degraded area and the sequential images.

  • In this research, we developed a ubiquitous computing platform that can analyze the vibration and noise in wireless environment by wireless LAN and sensors. In order to utilize the COTS(Commercial Off The Shelf) concept, we used a PDA that supports wireless LAN and serial communication as a main board. Following platform is used to measure the noise level of heavy construction equipments in a remote area.

  • Measurement of complex surfaces without touching is desirable in several fields. This arises mainly for measurement of complex surfaces including those surfaces that deform during touch. Our research presented in this paper describes the use of a 3D digitizer for scanning 3D objects. The use of such a device, in addition to proper calibration, requires proper scaling in all three dimensions. We propose measurement techniques to measure various aspects of the surface circumference, area and volume. We also present experiments from using a 3D Minolta digitizer for measuring 3D human heads.
