Although active systemic anaphylaxis and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis have been empolyed to study anaphylactic hypersensitivity, it is difficult and time-consuming to induce these reactions in experimental animals. In recent, Jun et al have found a simple method to induced anaphylactic hypersensitivity such as anaphylactic shock(AS) and cutaneous reaction(CR) using compound48/80. Cortex mori (Morus alba L.), the root bark of mulberry tree has been used as an antiphlogistic, diuretic, and expectorant in herbal medicine. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the methanol extract of Cortex mori could inhibit the compound 48/80-induced AS and CR. To induce AS, various doses of compound 48/80 (5, 7.5, 10, 15$\mu\textrm{g}$/gm B.W.) were injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) into ICR mice. The animals were pretreated by three injection(i.p.) of Cortex mori before compound 48/80 administration. Peripheral blood was collected from the right ventricle to estimate the level of serum histamine at 15 minutes after the injctin(i.p.) of various concentration of compound48/80. Mortility rate, mean death time and mesenteric mast cell degranulation rate were evaluated over a 72 hour period. To estimate the effect of Cortex mori on compound 48/80-induced cutaneous reaction, various doses of compound 48/80 with or without Cortex mori were injected intradermally(i.d.) into the shaved flank of Sprague-Dawley rats, and the blue cutaneous patchs induced by Evans'blue injection at the compound 48/80 alone and Cortex mori plus compound 48/80 injection sites were observed. As a Parameter of these reactions, the levels of histamine in the supernatant, calcium uptake and intracellular CAMP of RPMC were measured. supernatant, 1)compound 48/80-induced mortility rate, mean death time, mesenteric mast cell degranulation rate, and serum histamine level in ICR mice were significantly inhibited by pretreatment of Cortex mori, 2) cutaneous reaction inducd by compound48/80 was well developed in Sprague-Dawley rat, but Cortex mori inhibited the compound 48/80-induced blue patch formation remarkably, 3) the compound 48/80-induced degranulation, histamine release and calcium uptake of RPMC pretreated with Cortex mori were significantly inhibited, compared to those of control without Cortex mori pretreatment, and 4)the level of cAMP of RPMC was reduced bythe increased concentration of compound 48/80, pretreatment of Cortex mori not only inhibited the compound 48/80-induced reduction of CAMP but also significantly increased the level of cAMP naturally, from the above results, it is suggested that Cortex mori has an some substances with an ability to inhibits the compound 48/80-induced AS,CR, and mast cell activation.
The purpose of this study was to determine the variability of components of the vertical ground reaction force signal to seek the suitable number of attempt datum to be analyzed during running at 2m/s and 4m/s. For this study, six subjects (height mean:$174.5{\pm}4.4cm$, weight $671.5{\pm}116.4N.$, age:$25.0{\pm}yrs.$) were selected and asked to run at least 3 times each run condition randomly. FFT(fast Fourier transform) was used to analyze the frequency domain analysis of the vertical ground reaction forces signal and an accumulated PSD (power spectrum density) was calculated to reconstruct the certain signal. To examine the deviation of the vertical ground reaction between signals collected from an different number of attempt, variability of frequency, magnitude of passive peak, time up to the passive peak and maximum load rate were determined in a coefficient of variance. The variability analysis revealed that when analyze the vertical reaction force components at 2m/s speed running, which belongs to slow pace relatively, it would be good to calculate these components from signal of one attempt, but 4m/s speed running needs data collected from two attempts to decrease the deviation of signal between attempts. In summary, when analyzing the frequency and passive peak of the vertical reaction force signal during the fast run, it should be considered the number of attempt.

Repetition of landing with visual control in sports and training is common, yet it remains unknown how landing with visual control affects postural stability and lower limb kinetics. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that landing with visual control will influence on lower limb control for intrinsic dynamic postural stability. Kinematics and kinetics variables were recorded automatically when all participants (n=10, mean age: 22.00±1.63 years, mean heights: 177.27±5.45 cm, mean mass: 73.36±2.80 kg) performed drop landings from 30 cm platform. Visual control showed higher medial-lateral force, peak vertical force, loading rate than visual information condition. This was resulted from more stiff leg and less time to peak vertical force in visual control condition. Leg stiffness may decrease due to increase of perturbation of vertical center of gravity, but landing strategy that decreases impulse force was shifted in visual control condition during drop landing. These mechanism explains why rate of injury increase.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the GRF(ground reaction force) parameters according to the shoes's heel heights and ground landing distances during downward stairs on bus. Participants selected as subject were consisted of young and healthy women(n=9, mean age: $21.30{\pm}0.48$ yrs, mean height: $164.00{\pm}3.05cm$, mean body mass: $55.04{\pm}4.41kg$, mean BMI: $20.47{\pm}1.76kg/m^2$, mean foot length: $238.00{\pm}5.37mm$). They were divided into 2-types of shoe's heel heights(0 cm/bare foot, 9 cm) and also were divides into downward stairs with 3 types of landing distance(20 cm, 35 cm, 50 cm). A one force-plate was used to collect the GRF(AMTI, USA) data from the sampling rate of 1000 Hz. The GRF parameters analyzed were consisted of the medial-lateral GRF, anterior-posterior GRF, vertical GRF, loading rate, Center of Pressure(${\Delta}COPx$, ${\Delta}COPy$, COP area) and Dynamic Postural Stability Index(MLSI, APSI, VSI, DPSI) during downward stairs on bus. Medial-lateral GRF and vertical GRF didn't show significant differences statistically according to the shoe's heel heights and landing distance, but 9 cm shoes heel showed higher vertical GRF than that of 0 cm bare foot in landing distance of 50 cm. Also anterior-posterior GRF didn't show significant difference statistically according to the shoe's heel heights, but landing distance of 20 cm showed higher than that of landing distances of 35 cm and 50 cm in anterior-posterior GRF. Loading rate didn't show significant difference statistically according to the landing distance, but 9 cm shoe's heel showed higher than that of 0 cm bare foot during downward stairs. The ${\Delta}COPy$ and COP area didn't show significant differences statistically according to the shoe's heel heights and landing distance, but 0 cm bare foot showed higher than that of 9 cm shoe's heel in ${\Delta}COPx$. Dynamic Postural Stability Index(MLSI, APSI, VSI, DPSI) didn't show significant differences statistically according to the landing distance, but 9 cm shoe's heel showed decreased value than that of 0 cm bare foot in dynamics balance. Considering the above, parameters of GRF showed different characteristics according to the shoe's heel heights and ground landing distances during downward stairs on bus.
Characteristics of continuous preparation of ZnO powder were investigated in a micro drop/bubble fluidized reactor of which diameter and height were 0.03 m and 1.5 m, respectively. The flow rate of carrier gas for transportation of precursors to the reactor was 6.0 L/min and the concentration of Zn ion in the precursor solutions was 0.4 mol/L, respectively. Effects of reaction temperature (973 K~1,273 K) and flow rate of micro bubbles (0~0.4 L/min) on the pore characteristics of prepared ZnO powder were examined. The optimum reaction temperature for the maximum porosity in the ZnO powder was 1,073 K within this experimental condition. The mean size of ZnO powder prepared continuously in the reactor decreased but the surface of the powder became smooth, with increasing reaction temperature. The injection of micro bubbles into the reactor could enhance the formation of pores in the powder effectively, and thus the mean BET surface area could be increased by up to 58%. The mean size of prepared ZnO powder was in the range of $1.25{\sim}1.75{\mu}m$ depending on the reaction temperature.
Effects of $Ca(OH)_2$ concentration (0.16~0.64 wt%), surfactant concentration (2~16 wt%), total volumetric flow rate (3~6 L/min) and $CO_2$ volume fraction $(0.3{\sim}0.6)$ on morphology, crystal structure, mean particle diameter, aggregation and specific surface area of the precipitated $CaCO_3$ were investigated in the slurry bubble column reactor. Experiments were carried out in acrylic reactor ($0.11\;m-ID{\times}1.0\;m-high$) with a internal tube ($0.04\;m-ID{\times}1.0\;m-high$h). The reaction time of $CaCO_3$ synthesis decreased with adding Dispex N40 of the anionic surfactant. The reaction rate of $Ca(OH)_2$ increased with increasing the volumetric flow rate of $CO_2$. From SEM images, the single crystal of $CaCO_3$ increased with increasing the reaction rate in the saturated concentration of $Ca(OH)_2$ (0.16 wt %) and the concentration of Dispex N40 (2 wt%). The mean particle size of $CaCO_3$ varied with adding Dispex N40. In addition, the specific surface area of $CaCO_3$ increased with adding of surfactant (2 wt%) from $35m^2/g$ to $44m^2/g$ at the volumetric flow rate of $CO_2$ (0.9 L/min) and the concentration of $Ca(OH)_2$(0.64 wt %).
This study was performed to investigate the prevalence of theileriosis and to compare the prevalence of this disease in Korean native cattle reared under different environmental conditions, namely, in a grazing area and a non-grazing area by polymerase chain reaction. Three hundred and one Korean native cattle (276 cows and 25 bulls) that had not received prior treatment or been vaccinated to prevent theileriosis were examined by PCR for Theileria sergenti infection from 2001 to 2002. In our study, the parasitemia range in T. sergenti-positive cattle by microscopy were from 0.1 to 3% (mean 0.8%). In terms of mean prevalence, 204 of the 301 Korean native cattle (67.8%) were positive reaction by PCR. Our results also revealed that the infection rate among cows (70.3%) was significantly higher than that among bulls (40.0%) (p < 0.01). T. sergenti infection among the over 3 year-old-group (75%) had a significant higher prevalence than that among the less than 3 year-old-group (61.8%) (p < 0.05). Our data also showed that grazing areas (76.1%) had the significant higher prevalence than non-grazing areas (51%) (p < 0.001). In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the prevalence of T. sergenti infection is high and that its prevalence in grazing cattle is higher than that in non-grazing cattle, Therefore, life-long treatment and the development of an optimal vaccine are needed to reduce the numbers of bovine theileriosis in both grazing and non-grazing areas.
Prospective memory (PM) is related to remember to carry out a previously intented behaviour. The purpose of this study was to develop a paradigm for measuring PM function to diagnosis in mild cognitive impairment 1 or brain injury in patients 2. among brain injured patients Thirty-eight normal healthy subjects participated in current study. The paradigm was composed of four conditions: a baseline and three intention conditions (expectation, execution 1 and 2). In the expectation condition, subjects were asked to make a new response to intented stimuli during ongoing task, but the intented stimuli never occurred. In the execution 1 (one type of expected stimulus) and 2 (two types of expected stimuli), the intended stimuli did occur in 20% of trials. The reaction time and error rate were calculated in each condition. Repeated measures using ANOVA of subject's mean reaction times (RTs) and mean error rates (ERs) showed main effects of conditions during ongoing task. The comparison of PM tasks in executive condition 1 and 2 also showed significance in RTs and ERs. This paradigm reflects sufficiently the performance of prospective memory function during ongoing task in normal individuals. Thus, we suggest that the paradigm will be helpful to study neural network of PM function using brain imaging techniques and diagnosis of PM dysfunction.
A brief introduction is given on the conditional moment closure model for turbulent nonpremixed combustion. It is based on the transport equations derived through a rigorous mathematical procedure for the conditionally averaged quantities and appropriate modeling forms for conditional scalar dissipation rate, conditional mean velocity and reaction rate. Examples are given for prediction of NO and OH in bluffbody flames, soot distribution in jet flames and autoignition of a methane/ethane jet to predict the ignition delay with respect to initial temperature, pressure and fuel composition. Conditional averaging may also be a powerful modeling concept in other approaches involved in turbulent combustion problems in various different regimes.
