  • Propeller fans are commonly equipped in outdoor units of air-conditioners to provide effective cooling in a dried heat exchanger. A new design technique was developed to satisfy requirements of aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance, which employs the intersection method of two cylinders for mean camber line. Three proto-types of propeller fan including Palm-Shaped, Highly-Swept(PSHS) fan (proto 3)were not only to provide low lift forces for dipole sound, but also to reduce the organized tip vortices interacting with the fan guide causing narrow-banded rotating instabilities. Cross-correlation technique was applied to study flow noise source characteristics for three proto-type fans designed. The cross-correlations between a microphone at far field and a hot-wire sensor at near field show that flows near hub region of proto 3 fan are less organized and the flow structures especially at high flow rate coefficients for proto 3 fan are less correlated with noise generated than other proto-types fans.

An Experimental Study on the Characteristics of the In-cylinder Eccentricity Swirl Flow with Intake Port Shapes in a 4 Valve Diesel Engine (4밸브 디젤기관의 흡기포트 형상에 따른 실린더 내 편심 선회유동 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This experimental study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the in-cylinder eccentricity swirl flow generated by a 4 valve cylinder head with a tangential and a helical intake port. the measurements of the in-cylinder velocity field have been made by a two-channel LDA system. The mean flow coefficient(Cf(meam)), swirl ratio(Rs) and mass flowrate with valve eccentricity ratios and an intake port partition between the two intake ports were measured in the steady flow test fig using the ISM(impulse swirl meter). The experimental results indicated that the mass flowrate through the tangential intake port was 19% and 7.7% more than that of the helical intake port in case of with and without intake port partition respectively. There was a tendency to be a single rotation flow in swirl flow fields formed by a 4 valve cylinder head because of the interaction between the two intake ports. As the intake port partition was not set between flow coefficient(Cf(mean)) was 7.35%.

Dispatching to Minimize Flow Time for Production Efficiency in Non-Identical Parallel Machines Environment with Rework (재작업이 존재하는 이종병렬기계에서 생산효율을 위해 공정소요시간 단축을 목적으로 하는 작업할당)

  • Reducing waste for the efficiency of production is becoming more important because of the rapidly changing market circumstances and the rising material and oil prices. The dispatching also has to consider the characteristic of production circumstance for the efficiency. The production circumstance has the non-identical parallel machines with rework rate since machines have different capabilities and deterioration levels in the real manufacturing field. This paper proposes a dispatching method, FTLR (Flow Time Loss Index with Rework Rate) for production efficiency. The goal of FTLR is to minimize flow time based on such production environments. FTLR predicts the flow time with rework rate. After assessing dominant position of expected flow time per each machine, FTLR performs dispatching to minimize flow time. Experiments compare various dispatch methods for evaluating FTLR with mean flow time, mean tardiness and max tardiness in queue.

An Experimental Study for Flow Characteristics Inside the Rotor of a Multiblade Fan/Scroll System (다익 팬/스크롤 시스템의 로터 내부 유동 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Detailed characteristics of the mean flow field inside the rotor of a multiblade fan with scroll are presented in this paper by measurements and visualizations. The measurements were taken with a five-hole probe and conformed by smoke test. How field is distinguished clearly in 3 regions with respect to the flow directions. The first region is near the exit of scroll where the fluid flows the opposite direction to the rotation of rotor. The second is opposite side of the scroll exit where the fluid flows the same direction to the rotation of rotor. The third is the region where the fluid flows toward the blades directly with the largest values comparatively. The strongest recirculation is happened in the second region, and the weakest one is in the third region. This complex configuration makes the flow field highly non-uniform and may cause to generate a noise and ineffective flow efficiency.

  • Large Eddy Simulation(LES) of turbulent mass transfer in fully developed turbulent pipe flow has been performed to study the effect of Reynolds number on the concentration fields at $Re_{\tau}=180$, 395, 590 based on friction velocity and pipe radius. Dynamic subgrid-scale models for the turbulent subgrid-scale stresses and mass fluxes were employed to close the governing equations. Fully developed turbulent pipe flows with constant mass flux imposed at the wall are studied for Sc=0.71. The mean concentration profiles and turbulent intensities obtained from the present LES are in good agreement with the previous numerical and experimental results currently available. To show the effects of Reynolds number on the turbulent mass transfer, the mean concentration profile, root-mean-square of concentration fluctuations, turbulent mass fluxes, cross-correlation coefficient, turbulent diffusivity and turbulent Schmidt number are presented.

  • Performance and flow characteristics of a small forward swept propeller fan for home refrigerators are studied experimentally. An unusual discontinuity is observed in the performance curve of the fan. Mean flow fields measured with as-hole Pitot probe reveal that the flow is axial at the high flow rate and radial at the low flow rate. The flow structure changes abruptly across the discontinuity. Unsteady flow measurements with a set of hot-wire probes indicate that near the discontinuity a single-cell stall rotates at 40% speed of the fan speed, while away from the discontinuity the flow shows periodic variation corresponding to the blade passage frequency. Phase-lock averaged flow fields measured with a triple-sensor hot-wire probe show that there appears radially inward flow over the pressure side of the blade and the outward passage flow over the tip.

Temperature Field Measurement of Non-Isothermal Jet Flow Using LIF Technique (레이저형광여기(LIF)를 이용한 비등온 제트유동의 온도장 측정)

  • A 2-dimensional temperature field measurement technique using PLIF (Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) was developed and it was applied to an axisymmetric buoyant jet. Rhodamine B was used as a fluorescent dye. Laser light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the jet. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured with an optical filter and a CCD camera. The spatial variations of temperature field of buoyant jet were derived using the calibration data between the LIF signal and real temperature. The measured results show that the turbulent jet is more efficient in mixing compared to the transition and laminar jet flows. As the initial flow condition varies from laminar to turbulent flow, the entrainment from ambient fluid increases and temperature decay along the jet center axis becomes larger. In addition to the mean temperature field, the spatial distributions of temperature fluctuations were measured by the PLIF technique and the result shows the shear layer development from the jet nozzle exit.

The Relations of Nursing Students' Metacognition and Learning flow (간호대학생의 메타인지와 학습몰입 관련성)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the nursing students' metacognition and learning flow. Methods: The participants in this study were 272 nursing students. Between November and December 2017, data were collected through questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using PASW (SPSS) 21.0 program, and descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The mean metacognition of this study was 3.53/5, and mean of learning flow was 3.34/5. The significant learning flow according to metacognition level (F=46.75, p<.001). The significant correlates of metacognition were learning flow (r=.54, p<.001). Conclusions: The finding of study showed that metacognition was very important for enhancing learning flow influenced these relationship. This study suggested that it is important to develop and implement teaching and learning strategies with improved metacognition in nursing education field.

  • Most vehicles have a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) device to control the thermal condition and to make comfortable environment in the passenger compartment. The improvement of ventilation flow inside the passenger compartment is crucial for providing comfortable environment. For this, better understanding on the variation of flow characteristics of ventilation air inside the passenger compartment with respect to various ventilation modes is strongly required. Most previous studies on the ventilation flow in a car cabin were carried out using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis or scale-down water-model experiments. In this study, whole ventilation flow discharged from the air vent of a real passenger car was measured using a special PIV (particle image velocimetry) system for large-size FOV (field of view). Under real recirculation ventilation condition, the spatial distributions of stream-wise turbulence intensity and mean velocity were measured in the vortical panel-duct center plane under the panel ventilation mode. These experimental data would be useful for understanding the detailed flow structure of real ventilation flow and validating numerical predictions.

Optimal Conditions of Aerosol Flow Generation for High-density and Uniform Fog Screen (고밀도 균일 안개스크린을 위한 에어로졸 유동의 최적 생성조건)

  • The fog screen is a device projecting the media to the aerosol flow field. As major parameters to generate dense and steady fog screen, shear stress, optical blockage ratio and SMD were obtained result through experiment. The micro droplet was generated by the piezo oscillation element, and the aerosol flow mixed with an air flow was sprayed into the vertical direction from the top of the fog screen through the 280 mm slot. For produce a dense, uniform fog screen, the shear effect, optical blockage ratio and SMD between aerosol and air curtain were measured. The minimum and maximum shear stress conditions were selected and it was confirmed that the optical transmission deviation of the aerosol flow field was small when the aerosol and air curtain flow rates were changed. When the aerosol and air curtain flow power were 18 V (1.51 m/s) and 24 V (2.55 m/s), respectively, under the condition of the minimum shear stress and laminar flow, the optical blockage ratios with the spray length were small, and it produced a most stable and high density uniform fog screen by injecting a constant of $10{\mu}m$ or less.
