This work describes the modeling of cutting process for feedback control based on signal processing in end-milling. Here, cutting force is used to design control model by a variety of schemes which are moving average, ensemble average, peak value, root mean square and analog low-pass filtering. It is expected that each model offers its own peculiar advantage in following cutting force control.
With the use of the NC machine tool, the unmanned production system has been growing recently in the manufacturing field. This there are problems with monitoring adequate tool fracture during the cutting process efficiently. This study was planned and carried out to discover a way of monitoring tool condition in NO-LINE systems during the cutting process. The acquisition of data in cutting force and tool wear has been made in the section examined, to extract the RMS value of the cutting force as specific factors in the cutting process. The fluctuation of the RMS characteristics. From the results, it has been shown that the fluctuation of the RMS values for the cutting force has a close relation to flank wear.
An on-line monitoring system of endmill failure such as weal, chipping, and fracture is developed using AE, cutting force Characteristic variations of AE and cutting force signals due to endmill failure are identified as follows. When endmill fracture occurs, AE count rate shows a rapid Increase in conjunction with a subsequent decrease while a standard deviation of the principal cutting force Increases significantly. The increase of AE count rate precedes the Increase of standard deviation of principal cutting force. Chipping results in relatively small increase and decrease of AE count rate without any significant variation of the cutting force Gradual increase of AE count rate and mean principal cutting force are Identified to be related with the wear of cutter. A cutter fracture detection algorithm is developed based on the present results. The signals me normalized to enhance the applicability of the algorithm to Wide those of fresh cutters, and qualitative characteristics of AE signals encountered at the moment of fracture are employed. It is demonstrated that the algorithm can detect the cutter fracture successfully.
The cross section of the circular rod type workpiece to be cut in the band saw machine is variable at every moment in the sawing process. When the cutting feed rate is fixed to the constant speed, the cutting edges of the band saw teeth are also variabl eat any moment, so this causes the wear of the land saw teeth and the deterioration of the quality in the surface roughness. In this study, to work out this kind of problem basically, the mean cutting force of a tooth in the band saw was estimated by using the workpiece which was smaller than the interval of each tooth, i.e. band saw pitch, in the thickness. Then the static cutting forces were predicted by appling the mean cutting forces referred above to the mechanistic cutting force model which were analyzed through the geometric profile of a band saw tooth.
Recently the automization of wood manufacturing and the development of CNC machine tools becomes the center of interest. Cutting mechanism, tool wear and the roughness of machined surface have been studied. In the studies about wood for special uses, concrete data of cutting is desired. While Pinus densiflora is characterized that heartwood develops as age increases, Chunyang District has the characteristic of strength, red color, relatively regular chap and high heartwood - percentage. But there is no data about cutting this wood, Chunyang District. In this study face milling by sintered carbide tool was excuted to Chunyang District. Cutting force, Surface roughness and states were investigated with regard to cutting speed. Example results were as follows; 1) Mean cutting resistance against lateral component force and longitudinal component force decreased rapidly up to cutting speed of 155 m/min, and remains constant above this speed. 2) The surface roughness of cutting surface lowered as cutting speed increased, regardless of fiber formation. Radial rougness of fiber is larger than lineal surface roughness. 3) Increase in Cutting speed made machining mark restrained. Down-milling showed larger marks than up-milling.
Face milling is required to study cutting process with a view of multipoint cutter. This experimental study mainly deals with the single and multi-insert cutting characteristics using coated tool. Because metal cutting of the single and multi-insert has a large relation to the improvement of productivity, the economic cutting process can be achieved by the analysis of proper metal cutting mechanism. Therefore, machining characteristics of face molling in this paper has been studied by investigating the role of different insert number which is concerned with mean cutting force, the RMS values of AE(acoustic emission) signal, tool life and surface roughness in milling SS 41 and SUS 304. The cutting force and AE signal are monitored to make an analysis of cutting process. The surface roughness of the specimens machined by inserts of different numbers is measured at different speeds, feeds and depth of cut. The width of flank wear is also observed.
In recent years, the rapid development of the machine tool and tough insert has made metal removal rates increase, and automatic system without human supervision requires a higher degree reliability of machining process. Therefore the control of chips is one of the important topics which deserves much attention. The chip classification was made based upon standard deviation of the mean cutting force measured by a tool dynamometer. STS304was chosen as the workpiece which is known as the difficult-to-cut material and mainly saw-toothed chip produced, and the chip type according to the standard deviation of mean cutting force was classified into five categories in this experiment. Long continuous type chip which interrupts the normal cutting process, and damages the operator, tool and workpiece has low standard deviation value, while short broken type chip, which is favourable chip for disposal, has relatively large standard deviation value. In addition, we investigated the possibility that the chip type can be predicted analyzing the relationship between chip type and cutting condition by the trained neural network, and obtained favourable results by which the chip type can be predicted with cutting conditon before cutting process.
Predicting cutting forces in machine tools is essential to productivity improvement and process control in the manufacturing field. Furthermore, milling machining is more complicated than turning machining. Therefore, several studies have been conducted previously to simulate milling forces; this study aims to simulate the cutting forces in milling machines using multi-layered neural networks. In the experiments, the number of layers in these networks was 3 and 4 and the number of neurons in the hidden layers was varied from 20 to 200. The root mean square errors of simulated cutting force components were obtained from taught and untaught data for the various neural networks. Results show that the error trends for untaught data were non-uniform because of the complex nature of the cutting force components, which was caused by different cutting factors and nonlinear characteristics coming into play. However, trends for taught data showed a very good coincidence.
The experimental investigation is mainly focused to detect tool wear by cutting signal measurements in multi-insert face milling SS 41 and STS 304. This research have investigated the effects on the insert number, which has relationship with mean-cutting force. AE(acoustic emission) signal, tool life and surface roughness in machining SS41 and STS 304. The cutting force and AE signal are monitored to analyse the cutting process, The surface roughness of the specimens machined by TiN coated tool with the various insert numbers measured at various cutting speeds, feed rates and depths of cut, The width of flank wear is also observed.
