  • It is well known that after finding the displacement in the structural mechanics, strain and stress can be obtained in the straight-forward process. The main purpose of this paper is to unify the displacement functions for solving the solid body. By performing mathematical operations, three sets of these key relationships are found in this paper. All of them are written in the Cartesian Coordinates and in terms of a simple function. Both analytical and numerical approaches are utilized to validate the correctness of the presented formulations. Since all required conditions for the bodies with self-equilibrated loadings are satisfied accurately, the authors' relations can solve these kinds of problems. This fact is studied in-depth by solving some numerical examples. It is found that a very simple function can be used for each formulation instead of ten different and complex displacement potentials defined by previous studies.

  • In this paper, the weight functions for the Mode I and Mode II in SEN(single edge notched) specimen are obtained by superposition of the displacement in the singular field of the Buckner type and the displacements by opposite tractions induced by the singular field. The stress intensity factors, $K_{I}$ and $K_{II}$ are calculated by the weight function theory in SEN specimen under the loading equivalent to uniform tension and shear at infinity in Griffith crack. And the results are compared with the exact solutions.s.

  • With great advancement of the automobile functions, environmental factors become important performances, especially noise. This paper investigates noise sources of outer rotor type BLDC motor using in the air-conditioner of the automobiles. To this end, this paper is analyzed two viewpoints, structural and electromagnetic causes. Structural analysis is conducted through modal test and analysis. For modal analysis, 3D finite element analysis is carried out using commercial program ansys. Electromagnetic causes are analyzed from local force that is computed by Maxwell stress tensor method. Local force excites structure of motor directly. Finally, correlation analysis is performed to determine effect between noise causes.

  • In this study, we used a stochastic approach for guaranteeing the reliability and robustness of the performance with regard to the design of polymer components, while taking into consideration the degradation properties and operating conditions in automobiles. Creep and tensile tests were performed for obtaining degradation properties. The Prony series, which described the viscoelastic models, were calculated to use the creep data by the Maxwell fluid model. We obtained the stress data from the frequency response analysis of the polymer components while considering the degradation properties. Limit state functions are generated by using these data. Reliability assessments are conducted under the variation of the degradation properties and area of frequency at peak response. For this study, the input parameters are assumed to be a normal distribution, and the reliability under the yield stress criteria is evaluated by using the Monte Carlo Simulation. As a result, the reliabilities, according to the three types of polymer materials in automotive components, are compared to each other and suggested the applicable possibility of polymeric materials in automobiles.

  • In this study, an isogoemetric analysis (IGA) method that uses NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) basis functions in computer-aided design (CAD) systems is employed to account for the geometric exactness of curved electrodes constituting an electro-adhesive pad in electrostatic problems. The IGA is advantageous for obtaining precise normal vectors when computing the electro-adhesive forces on curved surfaces. By performing parametric studies using numerical examples, we demonstrate the superior performance of the curved electrodes, which is attributed to the increase in the normal component of the electro-adhesive forces. In addition, concave curved electrodes exhibit better performance than their convex counterparts.
