  • The amount of incident rays over inclination according to direction has been widely utilized as important data m installing solar thermal systems. To optimize the incident solar radiation, the slope, that is the angle between the plane surface in question and the horizontal, and the solar azimuth angles are needed for these solar thermal systems. This is because the performance of the solar thermal systems in much affected by angle and direction of incident rays. Recognizing that factors mentioned above are of importance, actual experiment on the moving route of the sun have been performed in this research to obtain the angle of inclination with which the maximum incident rays can be absorbed. After all, the standard for designing highly optimized solar thermal systems will be provided for designers and employees working in the solar collector related industries.

  • Several foundation soil conditions below a homogeneous sand slope were assumed and slope stability analyses were conducted to determine the soil condition, in which a stabilizing pile can be used to increase the factor of safety against sliding. The assumed heights of the sand slope were 5m and 10m. For a 5m slope height, a stabilizing pile can be used in the foundation soil with a $15^{\circ}$ internal friction angle and a cohesion of 10kPa. For a 10m slope height, a stabilizing pile can be used in the foundation soil with a $20^{\circ}$ internal friction angle and a cohesion of 10kPa and a stabilizing pile can be used in the foundation soil with a $0^{\circ}$ internal friction angle and 40kPa, 45kPa and 50kPa of cohesion. According to the analysis results of stabilizing pile-reinforced foundation soil, the length of the stabilizing pile and magnitude of the maximum bending moment were strongly affected by the internal friction angle of the foundation soil. The lengths of stabilizing pile, for an internal friction angle of $0^{\circ}$ were 4.6, 8.0 times greater than those with an internal friction angle of $5^{\circ}$. The magnitude of the maximum bending moment of the stabilizing pile for an internal friction angle of $0^{\circ}$ was 24.6 times greater than that for an internal friction angle of $5^{\circ}$. Practically, a stabilizing pile cannot be used for foundation soil with an internal friction angle of $0^{\circ}$. Considering the results derived from this study, the effects of a stabilizing pile can be maximized for soft foundation soil that is embanked with a slow construction speed.

  • The stability analysis method of an unsaturated slope considering the suction stress was performed on the infinite sand slope. During drying and wetting processes, the Soil-Water Characteristics Curve (SWCC) of the sand with the relative density of 75% was measured using the automated SWCC apparatus. Also, the Suction Stress Characteristics Curve (SSCC) was estimated. Based on these results, the stability analysis of an unsaturated infinite slope was carried out considering the slope angle, the weathering zone and the relative change in friction angle as a soil depth. According to the result of slope stability analysis, the safety factors of slope were less than 1 when the slope angles were more than $50^{\circ}$. The safety factors of slope tend to increase with increasing the depth from the ground surface. Especially, the safety factors have a tendency to increase and decrease above near the ground water level due to the suction stress. The maximum safety factor of slope in this analysis was occurred at the Air Entry Value (AEV) of drying process. The influence range of suction stress above the ground water level can be found out and can be defined as the funicular zone which means the metric suction range from the air entry point to the point of residual volumetric water content.

  • This study is an experimental research for the dispersion behavior and impact characteristics of debris flow according to change of slope. Large scale experimental setup for the debris flow was established to simulate the artificial rainfall and control the ground slope. Parameters such as materials of debris flow, slope, and length of slope were used for the experiments. After the experiments, it was found that the speed of ground material components was increased about 28~47%. It was found that speed can be increased by increasing the particle size. Furthermore, maximum/final loads for ground material components were increased 89% for the coarse aggregate and 68% for the fine aggregate comparing with sand.

  • In this study, the leveling control system for a tractor has been developed. The experimental model showed that the implementation of the proposed hydraulic control system fur the prototype design of a slope land tractor was feasible. The front axle was designed as a center pin type and the rear axle was designed as a trailing arm type. The leveling control of the body on the slope land was accomplished by controlling the height of the right and left trailing arms using the electronic controlled hydraulic cylinder. The maximum leveling control angles were ${\pm}$15$^{\circ}$ for roll angle and 7$^{\circ}$far pitch angle. The front and rear wheel drives were transmitted by gears from the main shaft to the final drive. The adaptability of the hydraulic control system was tested and investigated by analyzing the system response in time and frequency domain. The hydraulic control system on a step input showed a linearly increasing trend without any overshoot state. The hydraulic control system on a frequency input showed a little phase differences and gain drops within the range of 0.3Hz.

  • LEM (Limit Equilibrium Method) based programs are commonly used for the designs of soil nailing as a slope reinforcement. However, there is a drawback that the interaction between ground and soil nailing is not properly reflected in those programs, which needs to be solved. For economical constructions and designs, research is also required on the support pattern of soil nailing. In this study, therefore, reinforcement effects of soil nailing were compared and analyzed by performing finite difference analyses which could properly consider the interaction between ground and soil nailing. As a result, when the angle from slope to nail is $90^{\circ}$, failure slip surface becomes the largest and thus the factor of safety becomes maximum.

  • The laboratory datas are for local scour depth measurement at vertical-wall abutment. These include the data to demonstrate the effects of local scour depth of abutment nose shape, alignment angle, flow depth and flume slope. The pattern of local scour were measured and analyzed the abutments which are rectangular, sharp, chamfered rectangular and ablong nose shapes. The experiments were carried out with varing the flume slope and alignment algle increasing flow depth every step in 1cm for four abutment types on the live-bed scour conditions. The flume slope and alignment angle were varied in five cases : for latter 30 $^{\circ}$, 60 $^{\circ}$, 90 $^{\circ}$, 120 $^{\circ}$ and 150 $^{\circ}$, for former 0.01%, 0.03%, 0.05%, 0.1% and 0.2%. The maximum scour depths were analyzed for the shaped of abutment nose with rectangular, ablong, chamfered rectangular and sharp in order. The results of the experiments show that the scour depth varies not only with abutment nose shapes and alignment angle but also with the flow depth and flume slope.

  • In the present study, an economic design of Anchored Geosynthetic(AG) System applied mainly to reinforce unstable soil slopes is investigated. For this purpose methods of stability analysis are developed to determine the optimum installation angle, required minimum length and maximum spacing of nails. Anchorage of nails within the soil mass is achieved by frictional resistance to pull out along the effective length of the nails. Cases of infinite slope and finite slope are dealt with individually. Silce methods of stability analysis developed in the present study are limit-equilibrium-based. For the case of finite slope Spencer method which considers interslice force is modified to evalyate the overall stability. In addition, the effects of various design parameters on requried length and spacing of nails corresponding to the optimum orientation of nails are analyzed. Based on the analysis, a simplified equation is given for the optimum nail orientation. Also the importance of optimum nail orientation is illustrated throughout design example, and the appropriateness of judgment criterion are examined.

  • Statement of problem: The screws of dental implant, having various thread types, can be categorized into different classes by their geometrical form, and each type transmits dissimilar amount and form of stress to alveolar bone. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find an inclination angle of the screw thread that is favorable in distributing the stresses to alveolar bone. Material and methods: In this study, We used three dimensional finite element analysis with modeling having three types of thread inclination angles and fixed pitch-0.8 mm (single thread type with $3.8^{\circ}$ inclination, double thread type with $7.7^{\circ}$ inclination, triple thread type with $11.5^{\circ}$ inclination). Results: The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. When the number of thread increased, the amount of Von-Mises stress was reduced since the generated stress was effectively distributed. 2. Since the maximum principal stress affects on the alveolar bone can influence deeply on the longevity of the implants when comparing the magnitude of the maximum principal stress double thread had least amount of stress. This shows that the double thread screw gave best result. Conclusion: In conclusion, double, and triple thread screws were found to be more effective on distribution of the stress than the single thread screws. But, increasing in the thread inclination angle such as triple thread screw relate on the magnitude of the maximum principal stress affecting on the alveolar bone can become problematic. Thus, effective combination of thread number and thread inclination angle can help prolonging the longevity of implant.
