  • Numerical analysis has been made on the dynamic behavior of a supporting structure subjected to a force of time dependent frequency. The effect of solid viscosity is studied when the frequency of external force passes through the first critical frequency of the simple beam for four times. Within the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the solutions are obtained by using finite Fourier and Laplace transformation methods with respect to space and time variables. The result shows that the maximum value of the dynamic deflection is considerably affected by the value of the solid viscosity as well as the frequency difference The maximum dynamic deflection is found to occur in the frequency lower limit C of 0.85-0.985 in the presence of the solid viscosity.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) treatment on maximum voluntary force (MVF) production. Methods: Ten healthy, young subjects (5 males and 5 females) participated in the study. MVF was recorded after a fifteen minute session of TENS stimulation under two conditions: low frequency (4 Hz) at maximum tolerable level and high frequency (110 Hz) at maximum tolerable level. TENS was provided simultaneously via self-adhesive electrodes placed on the finger pads of the index, middle, ring and little fingers. MVF was also recorded in a baseline condition with no TENS treatment. Data were collected in three different sessions on three consecutive days at the sametime of the day. Results: Results from the study show that on an average, MVF increasesby 25% for the index, middle and little fingers for TENS treatment with 4 Hz frequency as compared to the baseline condition. However, the 110 Hz condition did not result in a significantly different MVF than the baseline condition during individual finger pressing tasks. In addition, while producing MVF with all the four finger stogether, MVF was 30% higher for the 4 Hz conditionin comparison to the baseline condition, and 15% higher for the 110 Hz condition in comparison to the baseline condition respectively. Conclusion: The results suggest that stimulation ofafferent fibers onthe glabrous skinwith TENS could have a net facilitatory effect on the maximum motoroutput.

  • In this paper, we propose robust blind estimators for the frequency offset of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing in non-Gaussian noise environments. We first propose a maximum likelihood (ML) estimator in non-Gaussian noise modeled as a complex isotropic Cauchy process, and then, a simpler estimator based on the ML estimator is proposed. From numerical results, we confirm that the proposed estimators are robust to the non-Gaussian noise and have a better estimation performance over the conventional estimator in non-Gaussian noise environments.

  • Voltage step-down characteristics in Ring/Dot type piezoelectric transformer were examined as a function of the area of input electrode when the area of output electrode is fixed. The effects of driving frequency and load resistance on the voltage step-down characteristics were also examined. Voltage gain was greatly dependent on the driving frequency and load resistance, and showed a maximum gain at resonance frequency of the step-down transformer. The frequency where the maximum cutout voltage appears increased about 0.2% as the load resistance increased from 10 to 150 Ω. As the area of input electrode increased, the voltage gain and the efficiency of the transformer increased. Frequency dependence of efficiency of the step-down transformer revealed a similar tendency with the voltage gain curves. The maximum efficiency remarked 94% when the input voltage and the load resistance were 20 Vpp and 120 Ω, respectively.

  • It is important to develop a transducer that generates uniform output power through frequency control of the HIFU at 4 MHz frequency for the high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) skin diseases treatment. In this paper, a 4 MHz frequency band HIFU system for skin disease treatment was designed, manufactured and developed. In HIFU, even for the ultrasonic vibrator in the 4 MHz frequency band, the characteristics of the output power of the HIFU are different depending on the difference in the thickness of the PZT material. Through the development of a system amplifier, the sound output of the HIFU transducer was improved to more than 48 W and uniform output power control was possible. And, it is possible to control the output power even in a frequency band of 4.0 to 4.7 MHz, which is wider than 4.0 MHz, and shows the resonance frequency of the transducer. The maximum output power for each frequency was 49.969 W and the minimum value was 48.018 W. The maximum output power compared to the minimum output power is 49.969 W, which is uniform within 4.1%. It was confirmed that the output power of the HIFU through the amplifier can be uniformly controlled in the 4 MHz frequency band.

  • An efficient system for high frequency plant regeneration was established through investigating various factors such as plant growth regulator combinations, explant types and ages, and addition of $AgNO_3$ influenced on shoot regeneration in Brassica juncea L. cv. BARI sarisha-10. Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 0.1 mg/L NAA (1-naphthaleneacetic acid) and 1 mg/L BA (6-benzyladenine) showed the maximum shoot regeneration frequency (56.67%) among the different combinations of NAA and BA. Explant type, explant age, and addition of $AgNO_3$ also significantly affected shoot regeneration. Of the four type of explants (cotyledon, hypocotyl, root, and leaf explants)- cotyledon explants produced the highest shoot regeneration frequency and hypocotyls explants produced the highest number of shoots per explant, whereas root explants did not produce any shoot. The cotyledonary explants from Four-day-old seedlings showed the maximum shoot regeneration frequency and number of shoots per explant. Shoot regeneration frequency increased significantly by adding $AgNO_3$ to the medium. Two mg/L $AgNO_3$ appeared to be the best for shoot regeneration with the highest shoot regeneration frequency (86.67%) and number of shoots per explant (7.5 shoots). Considerable variation in shoot regeneration from cotyledonay explants was observed within the B. juncea L. genotypes. The shoot regeneration frequency ranged from 47.78% for cv. Shambol to 91.11% for cv. Rai-5. In terms of the number of shoots produced per explant, B. juncea L. cv. Daulot showed the maximum efficiency. MS medium supplemented with 0.1 mg/L NAA showed the highest frequency of rooting. The regenerated plantlets were transferred to pot soil and grown to maturity in the greenhouse. All plants were fertile and morphologically identical with the source plants.

  • This study aims to analyze durability by comparing displacement on vibration at driving bicycle frame models of 1, 2, 3 and 4. Among maximum equivalent stresses at 4 kinds of models, model 1 has highest value with 410.39 MPa and becomes 30 times than model 4 with lowest value. The natural frequency number at Model 4 increases more than the other models. Among four models, the number of frequency at model 1 becomes lowest at harmonic vibration with real loading condition. In cases of four kinds of models, the maximum stress is shown near the assembly of rear wheel and the maximum displacement is shown near saddle assembly at this harmonic condition. The structural result about this study can be effectively utilized on the design of bicycle frame by investigating durability and prevention against its damage.

  • The experimental study was carried out to investigate the stability and the performance characteristics of the aero-valved pulsating combustion system with maximum operating capacity of 60KW. The effect of geometry of combustion system on the stable condition, the flammability limit, the total pressure oscillation amplitude, and the operating frequency can be identified, and the maximum turn-down-ratio is obtained up to 3.3. The total pressure oscillation amplitude can be controlled by tunning the length of the air inlet pipe. The empirical equation with which the operating frequency can be approximated is proposed and the discrepancy is within 5%. The volumetric efficiency is identified to be one of the important parameters determining the upper flammability limit and the maximum value of which is approximately 22%.
