This study was conducted to investigate the strength of soil cements for varied molding water content and cement content(3,6,9,12%) in four cementstabilized soils(KY: sand, MH: sad, SS: sandy loam, JJ: loam). The eoperimental results obtainedfrom unconfined compressive strength tests are asfollows: 1. The optimum moisture content increased in accordance with the increase of the cement while maximum dry density didn't change uniformly. 2. The moisture content for maximum strength was higher than the optimum moisture content in the higher cement content. Moisture-density curves showed a dull peak in the higher cement contents, on the other hand, a sharp peak in the lower cement contents. 3. In molding the specimen with the approximate optimum moisture content, the maximum strength showed at the wet side of the optimum moisture content. 4. SS and JJ maybe used as cement-stabilized base of road to require 300PSI of compressive strength cured seven days, but MH and KY may be not adequate. 5. In soil cement, the better the grain size distribution was, the stronger the compressive strength was itn general. 6. The relation between 28-day strengh and 7-day strength in the cementstabilized four soils may be expressed as follows: q28=1.55q7+1.5 in which q28:28-day strength. q7:7-day strength.
For understanding physiology and metabolism under various culture conditions, combined analysis of transcriptome and proteome is attractable way. We have manufactured DNA microarray containing 2,850 genes including all functionally known and putative ones. In this study, we report analysis of transcriptome and proteome during the high cell density culture of E. coli by using DNA microarray and 2-DE. Fed-batch fermentation of E. coli was carried out by exponential feeding of nutrients until the maximum cell density reached 74 g dry cell weight/L (g DCW/L). Changes in transcriptome and proteome during the HCDC are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to provide their physiological and metabolic meanings.
In the construction of earth dam, embankment, highway by filling, a compaction is to increase the density of applying pressure. By compaction interspaces between the soil graivos decrease so that density and adhesion increase but void and permeability decrease. Good compaction results in higher stablilty. The effect of the compaetion depends on a number of factors, of which the most important are soil charactesistics. Water content, and external force. In this study discussed is about sandy loam that since, with indentical force exerted and indentical compaction method, the effect of the compaction will be different due to the soil characteristics, the change of optimum moisture content and of maximum dry density by compaction yields difference in Compaction for a same sample.
Iln order to figure out criteria of bentonite for using as impervious material of waste landfill, laboratory experiments were performed to reveal the geotechnical properties of soil-bentonite mixtures such as compaction test, direct shear test, unconfined compression test, triaxial compression test, consolidation test and permeability test. The results of the study are summarized as follows ; 1. Based on the compaction test, optimum moisture content increased with the increase of bentonite content, but maximum dry density decreased. 2. In unconfined compression test, the maximum strength of the soil-bentonite mixtures appeared at 10% bentonite content. The correlation equation between stress($\sigma$) and strain($\varepsilon$) of the soil-bentonite mixtures is given by ; $\sigma=\frac{a\cdot\varepsilon}{\varepsilon^n+b}$ 3. In shear test of the mixtures. the shear strength showed an increasing trend with increase of bentonite content and the maximum shear strength appeared at 10% bentonite content. 4. In consolidation test, the coefficient of compressibility $(a_v)$$(m_v)$$(C_v)$
A series of model tank and rigid wall permeameter tests was performed in order to determine the long-term hydraulic conductivity of the sand-bentonite liners reinforced by geotextile. Main conclusions are as follows 1. The maximum dry density and optimum
The objectives of this study are to investigate the effect of media on the removal efficiency of nitrate-nitrogen and the biofilm thickness in the fluidized bed biofilm reactor(FBBR) used for the high rate denitrification of nitric acid wastewater. Granular activated carbon(GAC) of 1.274 mm diameter and sand of 0.455 mm diameter were used as the media in the FBBR of 0.05 m diameter and 1.5 m height. As the nitrate-nitrogen concentration of the influent was increased stepwise from 600 to 4800 mg/l, the nitrate- and nitrite-nitrogen concentration of the effluent, biofilm thickness and biofilm dry density were measured to study the effects of media on the denitrification efficiency. The biofilm thickness increased with the substrate loading rate, and the biofilm dry density decreased with the increase of the biofilm thickness. At the influent nitrate-nitrogen concentration of 2400 mg/l, the removal efficiency in the FBBR with GAC was 88%, while that in the FBBR with sand was 99.6%. The biofilm in the FBBR with GAC was so thick, 754.9 $\mu$m, as to increase the mass transfer resistance, compared to that, 143.7 $\mu$m, in the FBBR with sand. The maximum specific denitrification rate in the FBBR with GAC was 15.0 kg-N/m$^3\cdot$ day, while that in the FBBR with sand was 18.0 kg-N/m$^3\cdot$ day. The biomass concentration in the FBBR with sand exhibited the high value 37 kg/m$^3$.
Using rotating biological contactor(RBC) with artificial endogenous stage and aerobic fixed biofilm reactor(AFBR), organic material removal and biological nitrification of piggery wastewater has been studied at a pilot plant. RBC was operated in the endogenous phase at a interval of every 25 days. The concentration of COD, BOD and TKN in influent wastewater were from 2,940 to 3,800 mg/L, from 1,190 to 1,850 mg/L and from 486 to 754 mg/L respectively. The maximum active biomass content represented as VSS per unit aera was $2.0mg/cm$^{2}$ and biofilm dry density of $17mg/cm^{3}$ was observed at biofilm thickness of $900{\;}{\mu}m$. It was observed that the pilot scale RBC/AFBR process exhibited 72 percentage to 93 percentage of BOD removal, In order to obtain more than 90 percentage of BOD removal, the organic loading rate to the RBC/AFBR process should be maintained less than $0.09{\;}m^{3}/m^{2}{\cdot}day(125.9g{;\}BOD/m^{3}{\cdot}d$. The TKN removal efficiencies was from 45.5 to 90.9 percentage according to vary influent loading rate, It was estimated that the RBC/AFBR process consumed approximately 6.2 mg/L(as $CaCO_{3}$) of alkalinity per 1 mg/L of $NH_{3}$-N oxidized as the nitrification took piace.
The cemented sand and gravel (CSG) method is a construction technique that adds cement and water to rock-like materials, such as rivered gravel or excavation muck which that can be obtained easily at areas adjacent to dam sites. This study was performed to evaluate the unconfined compressive strength properties and freezing and thawing resistance of CSG materials with unit cement content. The three types of CSG-80, CSG-100 and CSG-120 with cement content were designed to evaluate the optimum water content, dry density, strength, stress-strain, micro structure and durability factor. As the results, the optimum water content ratio with cement content showed almost similar tendency, and the unconfined compressive strength and dry density increased as cement content increases. The strength ratio of 7 days for 28 days were in the range of 55~61 % and the strain ratio in stress-strain curve were in the range of 0.8~1.6 % nearby maximum strength in 28 days. It is expected that this study will contribute to increasing application of CSG method as well as to increasing the utilizing of CSG materials as a environmentally friendly CSG method.
The dry etch behavior of PZT thin films was investigated in $BCl_3/N_2$ plasma. The experiments were carried out with measuring etch rates and selectivities of PZT to $SiO_2$ as a function of gas concentration and input rf power, chamber pressure. The maximum etch rate was 126 nm/min when 30% $N_2$ was added to $BCl_3$ chemistry. Also, as input rf power increases, the etch rate of PZT thin films was increased. Langmuir probe measurement showed the noticeable influence of $BCl_3/N_2$ mixing ratio on electron temperature and electron density as input rf power increased. The variation of Cl radical density as plasma parameters changed was examined by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) analysis. According to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, PZT thin films were damaged in plasma and an increase in (100), (200) and (111) phases showed the improvement in structure of the PZT thin films after the $O_2$ annealing process.
