The Effects of Teaching Based on a Learning-communities Approach to Mathematics in Middle School (중학교 1학년 수학교실에서의 배움공동체 교수·학습 방법 효과 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the effects of teaching based on learning-communities approach to mathematics for 7th grade students. Two classes of 7th graders at two different middle schools in same city were selected as the experimental group and the control group respectively. Students in the experimental group learned mathematics in a learning-community while their counterparts in the control group received the traditional whole-class instruction employed in most schools. The results are as follows. Firstly, there was no statistically significant difference in mathematics achievement between the experimental group and the control group. Secondly, between the two groups, there were statistically significant differences in students' attitudes toward mathematics. Participants enjoyed the learning process itself by asking difficult questions to one another, sharing their ideas freely and figuring problems out for themselves. During these active participations, they displayed more confidence and interest in learning mathematics.

We construct the learning database of middle school mathematics that can be used on the internet and develop the java program for understanding the conceps of mathematics.   • This research reviewed literatures on proof in mathematics education. Several views of proof can be classified (and identified) such as psychological approach (Platonism, empiricism), structural approach (logicism, formalism, intuitionism) and social approach (ontology, axiomatic systems). All these views of proof are valuable in mathematics education society. The concept of proof can be found in the form of analytic knowledge not of constructive knowledge. Human beings developed their knowledge in the sequence of constructive knowledge to analytic knowledge. Therefore, in mathematics education, the curriculum of mathematics should involve the process of cognitive knowledge development.

  • In this paper, contents related to problem solving in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum analyzed in five aspects: problem solving stages, problem solving strategies, problems, problem posing, and assessment on problem solving abilities. From the results and processes of analysis, following conclusions are obtained: First, it is difficult to say the contents related to problem solving in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum are prepared organically. Second, it is difficult to say that contents related to problem solving in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum reflect results of recent researches.

  • The purpose of this work is to activate mathematics class in the extra curricular activity under the 7th curriculum. For that purpose, we investigate the current management of the extra curricular activity in the secondary school mathematics, and analysis the result. We suggest the main counterplan to activate mathematics class of extra curricular activity as following; (1) Develope teaching materials and programs for mathematics class. (2) Get the mathematics laboratory.

  • Let Mp := 2p - 1 be a Mersenne prime. In this article, we find integers a, b, c, d, e and n satisfying $\sum_{t=0}^{n}\;\({an+b\\ct+d}\)\;=\;M_{p^e}$ given a Mersenne prime number Mp. In order to find a special case that satisfies the above results, we reprove an well-known relation of a certain sum of binomial coefficients and a divisor function.
