Recently a student's mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills are emphasized. Nevertheless, the students solved the problem associated with a given type of problem solving using mechanical algorithms. With this algorithm, It's hard to achieve the goal that are recently emphasized. Furthermore It may be formed error or misconception. However, consistent errors have positive aspects to identify of the current cognitive state of the learner and to provide information about the cause of the error. Thus, this study tried to analyze the error happening in the process of solving gearwheel-involved problem and to propose the correct teaching method. The result of student's error analysis, the student tends to solve the gear-wheel problem with proportional expression only. And the student did not check for the proportional expression whether they are right or wrong. This may be occurred by textbook and curriculum which suggests only best possible conditioned problems. This paper close with implications on the discussion and revision of the concepts presented in the curriculum and sequence related to the gearwheel-involved problem as well as methodological suggested of textbook.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how first and second graders in middle school take in integrated understanding about the concept of function. The data was collected through the questionnaire conducted by the first and second-year students at A, B middle school in Cheongju. The questionnaire consisted of 14 questions related to the extent of understanding a concept of function, the ability to express function and to translate function. The results are summarized as follows. First, the percentage of correct answer made a difference according to the types of representation. Questions leading students to translate a task into a table or an equation showed quite high correct response rates. However, questions asking students to translate a task into graphs showed high incorrect responses. Second, the result shows that students have the different viewpoints depending on their grades when they have to determine whether the suggested situation belongs to function. The first-year students tended to consider function as the concept of 'definition'. On the other hand, the second-year students emphasized 'equation' of function. Finally, only a few students can distinguish the various situations and representations into the definition of function. This result shows that students didn't get the integrated understanding of the concept of function.

The pH, acidity, color, reducing sugar, total sugar, alcohol, and organoletic characteristics of Takju containing puffed rice powder (0, 25, 50 and 75%) were investigated during fermentation for 10 days. After drastic decrease at Day 1, the pH increased gradually until Day 5 and then tended to decrease after Day 6. A lower concentration of puffed rice powder resulted in a greater pH reduction (p<0.05). Acidity increased quickly with days, especially for the 0% after Day 6 (p<0.05). After a sudden rise at Day 1, the Hunter ‘L’ value tended to decrease with days of fermentation. At the same day, the 75% showed the lowest Hunter ‘L’ value, however, it had the highest Hunter ‘a’ value except on Days 0, 3 and 10 (p<0.05). After a rapid reduction in reducing sugar on Day 3, no differences were observed in the samples (p<0.05). The 75% tended to be higher in reducing sugar. Total sugar decreased rapidly at Day 2, and then either remained unchanged or decreased after Day 3. With the exception of Day 4, the 75% had higher amounts of total sugar than the others at the same day (p<0.05). The Highest alcohol contents [13.0-16.4% (v/v)] occurred on Day 6. Higher alcohol concentrations were observed with higher puffed rice powder (p<0.05). In the sensory evaluation, no differences were detected between the 0% and those with puffed rice powder added (p<0.05).
This study analyzed the repeated error patterns in division of fraction by elementary students through observation of their test papers. The questions for this study were following. First, what is the most changable thing among the repeated error patterns appeared in division of fraction by elementary students? Second, what is the most frequent error patterns in division of fraction by elementary students? First of all, the ratios of incorrect answers in division of fraction by general students were researched. This research was the only one time. The purpose was to know what kind of compositions in the problems were appeared more errors. Total 554 6th grade students(300 boys and 254 girls) from 6 elementary schools in Seoul are participated in this research. On the basis of this, the study for analysis began in earnest. 5 tests made progress for about 4 months. Total 181 6th grade students(92 boys and 89 girls) from S elementary school in Seoul were participated in this. After each test, to confirm the errors and to classify them were done. Then the repeated error patterns were arranged into 4 types: alpha, beta, gamma and delta type. Consequently, conclusions can be derived as follows. First, most students modify their errors as time goes by even though they make errors about already learned contents. Second, most students who appeared errors make them continually caused a reciprocal of natural number in the divisor when they calculate computations about '(fraction) $\div$ (natural number)'. Third, most students recognize that the divisor have to change the reciprocal when they calculate division of fraction through they modify their errors repeatedly.

The SymMerge algorithm is an efficient merging algorithm for input sequences u and v of sizes $\left|u \right|=m$ and $\left|v \right|=n$, $m{\leq}n$. We consider complexity analysis for SymMerge algorithm regarding to the required number of comparisons. The focus of the previous complexity analysis was on finding the values of upper bounds, i.e. showing the asymptotical optimality. In this paper, in a different way from the previous complexity analysis, we show that the overall required number of comparisons for two representative special cases "symmetric case" and "maximum spanning case" can be calculated exactly i.e. the least upper bounds regarding to the required number of comparisons are calculated. Symmerge requires exactly $m\;log\frac{n}{m}+4m-logm-3$ comparisons for symmetric case of sizes $m=2^k,\;n=2^l,l{\geq}k$ of input sequences and exactly $\frac{1}{2}m^2+(m+1)logm-\frac{3}{2}m+2$ comparisons for maximum spanning case of sizes $m=2^k,n=2^m-m$ of input sequences. Additionally we show that the complexity of the Symmerge algorithm regarding to the overall required number of comparisons for these special cases can be defined by recurrence relations.

As a sequel of "special improvement act for gifted student education" legislated on January 2000, "regulation act for gifted student education" was published on April 2002 which is the time Korea has settled down its education for the gifted. Announced in the December 2007 "general plan for development of gifted student education" provided a platform for the gifted student education in Korea of growth in quantity, in which a plan of providing gifted student education up to 1 percent of the elementary and middle school level students (approximately 70 thousands) has been established while the education currently provides to 0.59 percent (40 thousands) of all students. Until recently, however, education for gifted students has been performed based on the way of concentrating on academic domains. and it has put more weights on mathematics and english domains. In order to overcome this drawbacks, there have been various attempts for growth in quality of education for gifted students, one of them is the our proposal of convergence of science and art education for cultivating 21 century creative humans through establishment of new type of institution. In this paper, education curriculum and management strategies appliable to the proposed convergence education institutions for gifted students. For this purpose we derived the implication points through analysis on education processes used in korea science school for the gifted students, a representative institution for the gifted students in Korea, and we suggested educational process curriculums for the science and art institute for gifted students along with the detailed contents of convergence subject which is an essential subject to the institute.
Based on the thinking that people can understand more clearly when the problem is related with their prior knowledge, the Purpose of this study was to analysis students' informal knowledge, which is constructed through their mathematical experience in the context of real-world situations. According to this purpose, the following research questions were. 1) What is the characteristics of students' informal knowledge about fraction before formal fraction instruction in school? 2) What is the difference of informal knowledge of fraction according to reasoning ability and grade. To investigate these questions, 18 children of first, second and third grade(6 children per each grade) in C elementary school were selected. Among the various concept of fraction, part-whole fraction, quotient fraction, ratio fraction and measure fraction were selected for the interview. I recorded the interview on digital camera, drew up a protocol about interview contents, and analyzed and discussed them after numbering and comment. The conclusions are as follows: First, students already constructed informal knowledge before they learned formal knowledge about fraction. Among students' informal knowledge they knew correct concepts based on formal knowledge, but they also have ideas that would lead to misconceptions. Second, the informal knowledge constructed by children were different according to grade. This is because the informal knowledge is influenced by various experience on learning and everyday life. And the students having higher reasoning ability represented higher levels of knowledge. Third, because children are using informal knowledge from everyday life to learn formal knowledge, we should use these informal knowledge to instruct more efficiently.
Objectives: The Indonesian Ministry of Health launched isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) in 2016, with general practitioners (GPs) at the frontline of this program. However, the extent to which GPs have internalized this program remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to identify the knowledge and attitudes of GPs towards the IPT program in Indonesia. Methods: This study used an online, self-administered questionnaire distributed via e-mail and social messaging services. A logistic regression model was employed to identify the explanatory variables influencing the level of knowledge and attitudes toward IPT among GPs in Indonesia. An empirical analysis was conducted separately for each response variable (knowledge and attitudes). Results: Of the 418 respondents, 128 (30.6%) had a good knowledge of IPT. Working at a public hospital was the only variable associated with good knowledge, with an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 1.69 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02 to 2.81). Furthermore, 279 respondents (66.7%) had favorable attitudes toward IPT. In the adjusted logistic regression analysis, good knowledge (aOR, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.34 to 0.89), 1-5 years of work experience (aOR, 2.09; 95% CI, 1.21 to 3.60), and having experienced IPT training (aOR, 0.48; 95% CI, 0.25 to 0.93), were significantly associated with favorable attitudes. Conclusions: In general, GPs in Indonesia had favorable attitudes toward IPT. However, their knowledge of IPT was limited. GPs are an essential element of the IPT program in the country, and therefore, adequate information dissemination to improve their understanding is critical for the long-term viability and quality of the IPT program in Indonesia.
In this study, we investigated the perception of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education consultants (SEC) about the requirements to achieve actual results and the improvements for STEAM education consulting. Data were collected from teachers who have had previous SEC experience or have extensive experience in STEAM education. First, an open-ended questionnaire was used to conduct a survey on the requirements and improvements for the STEAM education consulting, and items were composed by analyzing the contents of these free responses, and then statistical analysis was performed by asking them to respond on the Likert scale to how much they agreed to each item. As a result of the analysis, the SEC recognized that "formation of consensus between consultants and teachers", "consultant feedback on reflection of previous consulting results" and "encouragement and support for teachers" are appeared to be the most required for STEAM education consulting to achieve actual results. As the improvements of STEAM education consulting, "sharing cases and opinions among consultants", "selection and sharing of consulting best practices", and "development of various consulting types such as open classes" received the highest agreement. Based on these results, a support plan to increase the effectiveness of STEAM consulting was proposed.
Objective: To compare the therapeutic outcomes of laparoscopic hepatic resection (LHR) and laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (LRFA) for single subcapsular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods: We screened 244 consecutive patients who had received either LHR or LRFA between January 2014 and December 2016. The feasibility of LRFA in patients who underwent LHR was retrospectively assessed by two interventional radiologists. Finally, 60 LRFA-feasible patients who had received LHR and 29 patients who had received LRFA as the first treatment for a solitary subcapsular HCC between 1 cm and 3 cm were finally included. We compared the therapeutic outcomes, including local tumor progression (LTP), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and overall survival (OS) between the two groups before and after propensity score (PS) matching. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression was also used to evaluate the difference in OS and RFS between the two groups for all 89 patients. Results: PS matching yielded 23 patients in each group. The cumulative LTP and OS rates were not significantly different between the LHR and LRFA groups after PS matching (p = 0.900 and 0.003, respectively). The 5-year LTP rates were 4.6% and 4.4%, respectively, and OS rates were 100% and 90.7%, respectively. The RFS rate was higher in LHR group without statistical significance (p = 0.070), with 5-year rates of 78.3% and 45.3%, respectively. OS was not significantly different between the LHR (reference) and LRFA groups in multivariable analyses, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 1.33 (95% confidence interval, 0.12-1.54) (p = 0.818). RFS was higher in LHR (reference) than in LRFA without statistical significance in multivariable analysis, with an HR of 2.01 (0.87-4.66) (p = 0.102). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in therapeutic outcomes between LHR and LRFA for single subcapsular HCCs measuring 1-3 cm. The difference in RFS should be further evaluated in a larger study.
