The major goals of this study are to find the factors that enhance self-directed math learning in college math classes and to provide the students with the opportunities to check and develop their self-directed math learning attitude. For these research goals, we prepared the questionnaires that asked about their learning motivations, basic learning ability, self-discipline strategies, and self-directed learning strategies. Another purpose of the questionnaires was to give them the chances to check and improve their attitude toward those learning strategies, motivation and ability. From the research results, we find that the important factors for self-directed learning are internal & external motivations, concentration ability, and the goal-setting and plan-making abilities. In addition, concentration ability, good habit, stress-control, recognition of math value, and self-directing ability are found to be necessary for the desirable learning environment. On the other hand, we find that the ability to perform note-taking, class preparation and review, time-control, and test-control is required for the selection and practice of self-fitting learning strategies. Finally, we provided our own self-directed math learning model. Our model, containing the necessary factors for self-directed math learning, is the revised and modified one of Knowles(1975)'s 5 stage self-directed learning model that comprises diagnosis of learning desire, setting learning goals, grasping human&material resources, selection and practice of proper learning strategies, and evaluation of learning results.

The purpose of this study is to develop elementary school math classes for the gifted and talented with a focus on social issues to investigate the possibility of character education through specialized subject classes. As suggested in the goals of the math education for social justice, which provide the fundamental theoretical basis, through mathematics activities with a theme of social issues, mathematically gifted and talented young students can critically perceive social issues, express a sense of mathematical and critical agency throughout the course and develop a willingness and mindset to contribute to social progress. In particular, the concept of Figured Worlds and agency is applied to this study to explain the concept of elementary math classes for the gifted and talented with a focus on social issues. The concept is also used as the theoretical framework for the design and analysis of the curriculum. Figured Worlds is defined as the actual world composed of social and cultural elements (Holland et al., 1998) and can be described as the framework used by the individual or the social structure to perceive and interpret their surroundings. Agency refers to the power of practice that allows one to perceive the potential for change within the Figured Worlds that he is a part of and to change the existing Figured Worlds. This study sees as its purpose the fostering of young talent that has the agency to critically perceive the social structure or Figured Worlds through math classes with a theme of social issues, and thus become a social capital that can contribute to social progress.
This study aims to examine the differences in the longitudinal relationship between academic stress, mathematics self-efficacy, and engagement in mathematics class according to the math achievement level. According to the results, academic stress, math self-efficacy, and math class engagement were stable over time for the high and low groups. Also, In the high group, math self-efficacy had a negative longitudinal mediation effect in the influence of academic stress to math class engagement. Whereas, in the low group math class engagement had a positive longitudinal mediation effect in the influence of academic stress to math self-efficacy. This means that the academic stress affects differently according to the math achievement level, and mathematics teachers should reflect these results in their teaching/learning strategies so that students can increase their mathematics self-efficacy along with their engagement in mathematics classes.
In mathematical modeling tasks, where students are exposed to model-eliciting for real and open problems, students are supposed to formulate and use a variety of mathematical skills and tools at hand to achieve feasible and meaningful solutions using appropriate problem solving strategies. In contrast to problem solving activities in conventional math classes, math modeling tasks call for varieties of mathematical ability including mathematical creativity. Mathematical creativity encompasses complex and compound traits. Many researchers suggest the exhaustive list of criterions of mathematical creativity. With regard to the research considering the possibility of enhancing creativity via math modeling instruction, a quantitative scheme to scale and calibrate the creativity was investigated and the assessment of math modeling activity was suggested for practical purposes.

Based on moments inequalities new testing procedures are derived for testing exponentiality against new renewal better than used (NRBU) and renewal new better than used (RNBU). These classes play an important role in formulating repair or replacement policies. The asymptotic Pitman efficiency of (NRBU) and (RNBU) testes are studied. Selected critical values are tabulated for sample sizes n=5(1) 50. The power estimates for some commonly used life distributions in reliability are also calculated. Some set of real data is used as an example to elucidate the use of the proposed test statistic for practical reliability analysis. The problem in case of right-censored data is also handled.
This study examined the effect and structural relationship of math teachers' teaching ability and class activity types on learners' value perception, confidence, and interest of mathematics at the student level and teacher level. To this end, data from 2nd graders of korea middle school in TIMSS 2019 were applied to the multilevel structural equation model. As a result of the analysis, the teaching ability of math teachers had a positive effect on value perception, confidence, and interest of mathematics at the student level and teacher level. Also, math value perception and math confidence had a positive effect on math interest. and it was confirmed that the teaching ability of math teachers indirectly had a positive effect on math interest by mediating math value perception and math confidence. In addition, the math class activity of applying what was learned to problems had a positive effect on math value perception, but it had a negative effect on math interest. and the class activity of the same ability group had a positive effect on math confidence and math interest. This study presents meaningful implications for math classes in the school field through a multilevel analysis of the student level and the teacher level.

This study is on teaching about the areas of plane figures through open instruction, which aims to discover the pedagogical meanings and implications in the application of open methods to math classes by running the Math A & B classes regarding the areas of parallelogram, triangle, trapezoid and rhombus for fifth graders of elementary school through open instruction method and analyzing the educational process. This study led to the following results. First, it is most important to choose proper open-end questions for classes on open instruction methods. Teachers should focus on the roles of educational assistants and mediators in the communication among students. Second, teachers need to make lists of anticipated responses from students to lead them to discuss and focus on more valuable methods. Third, it is efficient to provide more individual tutoring sessions for the students of low educational level as the classes on open instruction methods are carried on. Fourth, students sometimes figured out more advanced solutions by justifying their solutions with explanations through discussions in the group sessions and regular classes. Fifth, most of students were found out to be much interested in the process of thinking and figuring out solutions through presentations and questions in classes and find it difficult to describe their thoughts.
The purpose of our work is to developing the program of math. camp to improve underachiever's mathematical disposition. To do this, the following research were taken; (1)Analysis of current status of programs for underachievers (2)Analysis of inclination to mathematics(We collected the data from 2 classes of middle schools) (3)Prepare and apply the program of math. camp for the students including underachievers, and then analysis the effect of the math. camp The results of this study is as follows; (1)Only 40% of investigated schools have their own programs for underachievers. But almost all general high schools do not have such programs because students do not want. More than half of the investigated teachers suggested that the most important thing for underachievers is the induction of motivation for mathematics. (2)Many students dislike mathematics from 5∼6 grade of elementary school, and more than 50% of students think that 'measure' and 'equations' items are difficult. (3) After attending the math. camp based on the games and activities in small groups, the students in the middle-ranking group showed more positive reactions against the items of mathematical disposition and attitude tests. The students in the row-ranking group were improved in the 'self-confidence' and 'will' items of mathematical disposition test and in the 'superiority' and 'interest' items of mathematical attitude test.
The purpose of this study is to find out the actual status of the math after-school program in the elementary school and the content of the program. We survey the 115 math external math lecturers of the 100 elementary schools in Busan and analyze the results. Research questions are set as follows. 1. What is the status of the elementary math after-school? 2. How is the content of the program of the elementary math after-school? The results of the survey are analyzed as follows. First, any of the external math after-school lecturer did not major in math education and 87% of them majored in another discipline. Second, 47% of the external math after-school lecturers are employed by privately-held companies. Third, 64.4% of the content of the after-school programs is the supplement and deepening of the regular math class. Fourth, 76.5% of the time of the first class of the math after-school program is 50 minutes and 46% of the math after-school opens 5 classes per a week. Fifth, most programs consist of the problem-solving style class. Sixth, it is difficult to run the math after-school according to students' level and grade. Based on the above discussion, I suggest the following. First, math after-school class should be the action-oriented class to motivate the positive and interested participation of the students. Second, lecturer training and various math class programs is required to improve the quality of the math after-school class.
In mathematics classes, the verbal explanation may contain diverse mathematical concepts and principles in short sentences. It may also include mathematics symbols and terms that might not be used in everyday life. Therefore, students may need particular listening ability in order to understand and participate in mathematics communication. Unlike general listening, the listening ability for mathematics classes may require student to integrate their mathematical and linguistic knowledge. The aim of this study is to reveal the subdomains of listening ability for mathematics classes in a elementary school. I categorized listening ability for mathematics classes in a elementary school from the literature. The categories of listening ability for mathematics are Interpretive Listening, Evaluative Listening, Hermeneutic Listening, Selective Listening, Pretend Listening, and Ignored Listening. In order to develop a framework for understanding listening ability for mathematics classes, I investigated a hierarchy of 412 South Korean elementary teachers' perception. Through a web-based survey, the teachers were asked to rank order their beliefs about and students' listening ability. Findings show that teachers' perceptions about listening ability for mathematics classes are divergent from current research trends. South Korean elementary teachers perceived Interpretive Listening as the most important listening.
