프랭크 게리의 조형 언어의 변천과정에 대한 분석 연구 (An Analytical Study on the Transformation Process of the Design Language of Frank O. Gehry)

  • 본 연구는 조형언어의 변화가 심하여 일관성을 찾기 어려운 작가로 알려진 프랭크 게리의 조형작업 및 언어의 변천과정에 대한 분석 연구이다. 게리의 작업은 일관성이 없이 "우연"이나 "혁명적 변화" 혹은 "즉흥성"에만 의존하는 것으로 알려져 왔으나, 본 연구를 통하여 연구자는 그의 작업 및 조형언어의 변화는 오히려 일관된 주제를 가지고 하나의 방향으로 "필연적인 진화"를 하고 있음을 주장하였다. 게리의 작업시기를 4 시기로 분류하고 공시적, 통시적으로 그 특징들을 고찰, 분석한 결과 게리는 공시적 상황들을 주제로 하고 그것을 메타포를 통하여 가시화하기 위하여 재료와 형태를 수단으로 이용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구자는 이러한 필연적인 진화과정으로서의 형태언어를 지닌 게리를 해체주의자로 분류하는 것은 오류임을 지적하였다. 형태언어를 지닌 게리를 해체주의자로 분류하는 것은 오류임을 지적하였다.

생물학적 패턴의 건축적 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Architectural Application of Biological Patterns)

  • The development of digital media made the change of architectural paradigm from tectonic to the surface and pattern. This means the transition to the new kind of materiality and the resurrection of ornament. This study started as an aim to apply biological pattern to architectural design from the new perception of pattern. Architectural patterns in the early era appeared as ladders, steps, chains, trees, vortices. But since 21st century, we can find patterns in nature like atoms and molecular structures, fluid forms of dynamics and new geometrical pattern like fractal and first of all biological patterns like viruses and micro-organisms, Voronoi cells, DNA structure, rhizomes and various hybrids and permutations of these. Pattern became one of the most important elements and themes of contemporary architecture through the change of materiality and resurrection of ornament with the new perception of surface in architecture. One of the patterns that give new creative availability to the architectural design is biological pattern which is self-organized as an optimum form through interaction with environment. Biological patterns emerge mostly as self-replicating patterns through morphogenesis, certain geometrical patterns(in particular triangles, pentagons, hexagons and spirals). The architectural application methods of biological patterns are direct figural pattern of organism, circle pattern, polygon pattern, energy-material control pattern, differentiation pattern, parametric pattern, growth principle pattern, evolutionary ecologic pattern. These patterns can be utilized as practical architectural patterns through the use of computer programs as morphogenetic programs like L-system, MoSS program and genetic algorithm programs like Grasshoper, Generative Components with the help of computing technology like mapping and scripting.

노출 콘크리트 마감의 실내 공간 감성평가 연구 - 김옥길 기념관 레스토랑을 중심으로 - (A Sensibility Evaluation Study on Interior Space of Exposed Concrete Finish - Focused on the Kim Ok Gil Memorial Hall Restaurant -)

  • With the ingenious properties of unconstrained formativeness and frank expression of materiality the exposed concrete became popular with numerous architectures. The application of the exposed concrete has expanded to indoor environments such as commercial and residential spaces beyond the building exteriors with the uncompromising nature of its materiality. The purpose of this study is to conduct sensibility evaluation of the exposed concrete finish in interior spaces. The sensibility evaluation is conducted through a survey on a set of space models of the exposed concrete finish. The three rendered space models were evaluated by emotional vocabulary of 18 pairs of words. The result were as follows: First, the emotions derived from the exposed concrete finish are 'modern', 'cold', 'simple', 'restrained', 'rough', 'dark', 'new', 'chic', 'familiar' and 'eco-friendly'. Second, three sets of space models with alternative materials on walls and floors in exposed concrete interior space showed clear difference in sensibility. A space with the exposed concrete finish on the floor, the walls and the ceiling showed the results of 'cold', 'dark', 'rational' and 'masculine'. In the exposed concrete finish environment with wood flooring 'comfortable', 'warm', 'bright' senses and with white paint finish on the wall 'bright', 'practical', 'ordinary' and 'restrained' senses were obtained. Third, all three images achieved senses of 'chic', 'modern', 'new', 'pleasant', 'environment friendly' and 'satisfactory'. The modernity and stylish expressions of the exposed concrete finish were kept with the application of different material finishes as well as complementing its cold and rough expressions with warmth and brightness.

  • 컴퓨터 하드웨어 장비와 컴퓨터 그래픽스 기술의 발전은 시각특수효과 (VFX)를 활용한 영상제작 분야에 많은 변화를 가져 왔다. 특히 영화 속에 등장하는 상상의 크리쳐(Creature)들을 실제와 같이 고해상도로 구현하기위한 다양한 컴퓨터그래픽스의 공학 기술들이 개발 및 제작됨에 따라 크리쳐들이 다양한 영화 속에서 출현하는 비중과 비율이 과거에 비해 점점 높아 져가고 있다. <디워>, <괴물>과 같은 크리쳐 영화를 비롯하여 <해리포터>, <나니아 연대기>,<반지의 제왕> 같은 판타지 영화 까지 수많은 영화들에서 크리쳐들은 영화의 중심적인 역할을 하고 있다. 이러한 상황은 각종 영화 관련 사이트들과 단체들이 다양한 방식으로 크리쳐에 대한 순위를 매기는 것에서도 알 수 있다. 그러나 이와 같이 크리쳐의 의미와 중요도가 나날이 증가해 가고 있음에도 불구하고 이에 관한 분류 및 유형에 대한 기본적인 연구조차 없는 것이 현실이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 크리쳐의 유형에 관해 체계적인 분류를 하여 보다 사실적이고 설득력있는 크리쳐를 디자인하여 향후 효과적인 시각화에 도움이 되고자 한다.

유럽 생태마을의 커뮤니티 정원과 공유공간의 경관적 특징 (Eco-symbolic Landscape Characteristics in Community Gardens and Common Spaces of Eco-Villages in Europe)

  • Although we have seen recently increasing number of eco-villages, any eco-village is not registered in Global Eco-village Network. It is important to review the definition of eco-villages and to provide useful basic information for future eco-villages. The main research aim is to analyze landscape characteristics of community garden and common spaces and to identify ecological symbolism of landscape created by residents in eco-villages. Seven eco-villages in Germany, Denmark and UK were selected and the following aspects were investigated through field survey; the settlement background, social and economical aspect, architectural specifications, recycled energy, and landscape characteristics of external spaces in eco-villages. The result indicated that the landscape of eco-village did intend neither to return to primitive society nor to control nature by technology. It intended to coexistence with nature. Primitive nature is symbolically restored and people who have it in mind strongly intend to grow together this common sense. Landscape creation has important role in creating common relationship between human living and nature. When we regard it conceptually as the eco-symbolism in landscape design of community garden, it presented the meaningful relationship with landscape and human life. It is not expression of landscape materiality and designed form but sense of place and landscape image. Landscape design would be expected to reveal the life stage and cycle from designed physical form and materiality through as time goes by when it is part of environmental circulation process by means of human living as meaningful relationship.

M. Foucault의 권력지식관계론에 기초한 한국의 복지담론 해석 (Exploring Welfare Discourse in Korea Based on M. Foucault's Power And Knowledge Relations)

  • 담론의 역할은 무엇일까? 미셸 푸코(Michel Foucault)는 특정 사회와 시기의 권력(power)은 담론을 통해 인식과 규범 체계 형성에 영향을 미치는 지식(knowledge)을 생성하여 사회와 구성원을 통제한다는 권력지식관계(power and knowledge relations)를 제시한다. 본 연구는 권력지식관계론의 근간을 이루는 배제의 형성(인식의 통제), 그리고 물질성 및 실천성(규범체계)을 분석 틀로 삼아, 4명의 전임 한국대통령의 복지관련 연설문에 대한 담론해석을 시도하였다. 분석결과로 복지와 성장의 균형 그리고 최고의 복지는 일자리(복지-성장-고용의 연계), 개인의 경제적 자립과 자활, 선별적 복지의 지향, 의존적이고 시혜적인 복지를 배제하는 지배적인 인식체계를 형성하고 있음을 발견하였다. 하지만 권력이 항상 체계적이고 정립된 지식을 형성하는 것은 아니며 인식과 규범의 괴리 문제가 동시에 관찰되었다. 푸코의 담론해석은 한국의 낮은 복지지출에 대한 인과적 추론을 제시하는 반면, 지식의 생산자와 주입자로서의 권력의 역할에 대한 과도한 초점은 어떻게 현대적 변화들을 지식체계에 수용할 것인가에 대한 질문을 남긴다.

Remembering Disasters: the Resilience Approach

  • The aim of this paper is to show how the paradigm of disaster resilience may help reorienting urban planning policies in order to mitigate various types of risks, thanks to carefully thought action on heritage and conservation practices. Resilience is defined as the "capacity of a social system to proactively adapt to and recover from disturbances that are perceived within the system to fall outside the range of normal and expected disturbances." It relies greatly on risk perception and the memory of catastrophes. States, regions, municipalities, have been giving territorial materiality to collective memory for centuries, but this trend has considerably increased in the second half of the 20th century. This is particularly true regarding the memory of disasters: for example, important traces of catastrophes such as urban ruins have been preserved, because they were supposed to maintain some awareness and hence foster urban resilience - Berlin's Gedachtniskirche is a well-known example of this policy. Yet, in spite of preserved traces of catastrophes and various warnings and heritage policies, there are countless examples of risk mismanagement and urban tragedies. Using resilience as a guiding concept might change the results of these failed risk mitigation policies and irrelevant disaster memory processes. Indeed, the concept of resilience deals with the complexity of temporal and spatial scales, and with partly emotional and qualitative processes, so that this approach fits the issues of urban memory management. Resilience might help underlining the complexity and the subtlety of remembrance messages, and lead to alternative paths better adapted to the diversity of risks, places and actors. However, when it is given territorial materiality, memory is almost always symbolically and politically framed and interpreted; Vale and Campanella had already outlined this political aspect of remembrance and resilience as a discourse. Resilience and the territorialization of memory are not ideologically neutral, but urban risk mitigation may come at that price.

들뢰즈와 가타리의 기계론과 배치의 교육학 (Deleuze and Guattari's Machinism and Pedagogy of Assemblages)

  • 들뢰즈와 가타리가 제기하는 느리고, 경험적인 교육은 시간 속에서 반복되는 지속을 경험해야만 가능하다. 잠재성과 현실성의 짝으로 이루어진 이 세계의 주체성은 '기계'로 표현된다. '기계'의 주체성은 생성 자체이다. 클라우드 상 어디에나 존재하면서 무의식적으로 빅데이터를 수집하는 정보사회의 주체성 또한 정보사회 자체이다. 정보사회는 개인의 욕망을 주체성의 발현에 앞서 관리하는 사회로 기울 위험을 안고 있다. '기계'는 언표적 배치와 기계적 배치로 이루어져 있다. 배치론에 입각한 사회과학은 반복되는 패턴, 언어성과 물질성의 공존, 경계에 대한 주의, 총체적 전체에 대한 부정이라는 특징을 공유한다. 시간 속에서 집합적 패턴이 구조적으로 변형되어 가는 양상을 띠는 배치의 교육학은 들뢰즈와 가타리의 본래 문제의식인 느리고, 경험적인 교육에 부합한다. 또, '교육-기계'의 물질성과 언표성을 고찰하는 작업은 탈인간 시대의 새로운 학습론, 교육론 확립에 기여할 것이다.

  • Ever since the local interior and architecture design industry adopted Digital fabrication modeling tool for its design operation in early 1990's, working environment has been changing. The Purpose of study is to analyze the digital Architecture fabrication modeling for digital design education in academy course. Digital Design Tools, Digital Space and Form, Digital Materiality and Digital Production. The Digital fabrication modeling is and important role in a traditional design process and digital design process. It is comprised of digital input devices(3D digitizer, 3D design tools) and digital output devices(cutting plotters, laser cut, CNC machines, 3D printers). Digital input devices can be shift a traditional design process to digital design process. Digital output devices are the principle of digital fabrication by CAD/CAM. Also, the result of this study provide the fundamental data for physical resources and digital design curriculum in KAAB.

A Study on the Transparency Appearing in Modern Furniture - Focused on the Characteristics of Materials and Spaces -

  • Expressing transparency has various significances in modem society because modern people want transparent objects and space due to the complication, numerous unreasonable facts and the lack of honesty in the society. It is necessary to summarize the processes of changes in transparent materials that have been substantially emerging in the areas of indoor spaces and furniture since the 1960s by organizing the concepts such as the characteristics of materials, the processes of development and the methods of shaping centering on representative artists and works. And the concept of transparency in terms of space enabled the expansion, overlapping and connection of spaces. It can be said that these factors express the openness, purity and non-materiality of spaces. It can also be connected to the thought of minimal ism and this concept could be confirmed by analyzing the works of the famous designers leading the times.
