Statement of problem. Higher incidence of prosthetic complications such as screw loosening, screw fracture has been reported for posterior single tooth implant. So, there is ongoing research regarding stability of implant-abutment interface. One of those research is increasing the implant diameter and prosthetic table width to improve joint stability. In another part of this research, internal conical type implant-abutment interface was developed and reported joint strength is higher than traditional external hex interface. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to compare stress distribution in single molar implant between external hex butt joint implant and internal conical joint implant when increasing the implant diameter and prosthetic table width : 4mm diameter, 5mm diameter, 5mm diameter/6mm prosthetic table width. Material and method. Non-linear finite element models were created and the 3-dimensional finite element analysis was performed to see the distribution of stress when 300N static loading was applied to model at $0^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$ off-axis angle. Results. The following results were obtained : 1. Internal conical joint showed lower tensile stress value than that of external hex butt joint. 2. When off-axis loading was applied, internal conical joint showed more effective stress distribution than external hex butt joint. 3. External hex butt joint showed lower tensile stress value when the implant diameter was increased. 4. Internal conical joint showed lower tensile stress value than external hex butt joint when the implant diameter was increased. 5. Both of these joint mechanism showed lower tensile stress value when the prosthetic table width was increased. Conclusion. Internal conical joint showed more effective stress distribution than external hex joint. Increasing implant diameter showed more effective stress distribution than increasing prosthetic table width.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the structural risk and weakness of a railway tank car through nonlinear collision analysis according to overseas collision safety standards. The goal is to propose a crash safety design guideline for railway tank cars for transporting dangerous goods in Korea. We analyzed the buffer impact test procedure of railway freight cars prescribed in EN 12663-2 and the tank puncture test criteria prescribed in 49CFR179. A nonlinear finite element model according to each standard was modeled using LS-DYNA, a commercial finite element analysis solver. As a result of the buffing impact test simulation, it was predicted that plastic deformation would not occur at a collision speed of 6 km/h or less. However, plastic deformation was detected at the rear of the center sill and at the tank center supporting the structure at a collision speed of 8 km/h or more. As a result of a head-on test simulation of tank puncture, the outer tank shell was destroyed at the corner of the tank head when 4% of the kinetic energy of the impacter was absorbed. The tank shell was destroyed in the area of contact with the impacter in the test mode analysis of tank shell puncture when the kinetic energy of the moving vehicle was reduced by 30%. Therefore, the simulation results of the puncture test show that fracture at the tank shell and leakage of the internal material is expected. Consequently, protection and structural design reinforcement are required on railway tank cars in Korea.

Long-rails in railways and high-speed railway are subjected to additional stresses resulted from the displacements inconsistence between upper structures, and this phenomenon is more remarkable in continuous bridges than in simple bridges. For the sake of safety, railways have to guarantee trains to stop safely without derailment even in the event of earthquake. The influences of acceleration, braking, and temperature were analyzed by static nonlinear method. But earthquake loads that require dynamic nonlinear analysis are not considered in these methods. Because linear relation between relative displacements of decks and rail stresses is not guaranteed at the nonlinear systems such as long rails on the bridges, it is required compute to rail stresses considering both braking and earthquake load by nonlinear dynamic analysis method. In this study, dynamic analysis method with material non-linearity for rails on continuous bridges according to the Taiwan High Speed Railway(THSR) Design Specification volume 9 was developed. And additional stresses and displacements of long rails for acceleration, braking, and earthquake loads were analyzed by this method.
A theoretical research project is undertaken to develop integrated analysis and design tools for long span composite beams in modern high-rise buildings, and it aims to develop non-linear finite element models for practical design of composite beams. As the first paper in the series, this paper presents the development study as well as the calibration exercise of the proposed finite element models for simply supported composite beams. Other practical issues such as continuous composite beams, the provision of web openings for passage of building services, the partial continuity offered by the connections to columns as well as the behaviour of both unprotected and protected composite beams under fires will be reported separately. In this paper, details of the finite elements and the material models for both steel and reinforced concrete are first described, and finite element studies of composite beams with full details of test data are then presented. It should be noted that in the proposed finite element models, both steel beams and concrete slabs are modelled with two dimensional plane stress elements whose widths are assigned to be equal to the widths of concrete flanges, and the flange widths and the web thicknesses of steel beams as appropriate. Moreover, each shear connector is modelled with one horizontal spring and one vertical spring to simulate its longitudinal shear and pull-out actions based on measured load-slippage curves of push-out tests of shear connectors. The numerical results are then carefully analyzed and compared with the corresponding test results in terms of load mid-span deflection curves as well as load end-slippage curves. Other deformation characteristics of the composite beams such as stress and strain distributions across the composite cross-sections as well as distributions of shear forces and slippages in shear connectors along the beam spans are also examined in details. It is shown that the numerical results of the composite beams compare well with the test data in terms of various load-deformation characteristics along the entire deformation ranges. Hence, the proposed analysis and design tools are considered to be simple and yet effective for composite beams with practical geometrical dimensions and arrangements. Structural engineers are strongly encouraged to employ the models in their practical work to exploit the full advantages offered by composite construction.

This study shows the test results of seven RC beams retrofitted with modified polymer system and parametric study about the effects of tensile strength of retrofitting materials by analytical method on the flexural behavior. The main parameters are the retrofitted depth and length. The beams are loaded to the failure by four-point loading. Test results show that the effect of the retrofitted length on the structural behavior is more significant than that of depth. As the retrofitted depth is increased, the beams represents the brittle failure mode The non-linear analysis is carried out to grasp the effect of the tensile strength of retrofitting material on the structural behavior. As the retrofitted depth and length are increased, the tensile strength becomes more effective so these parameters should be considered to determine the retrofitted area. The analytical results show that failure strength is less than that of experimental results, but the stiffness is vice versa.
The purpose of this study is to provide analytical method to reasonably evaluate the complicated failure behaviors of shear friction of reinforced concrete shear wall specimens using grade 500 MPa high-strength bars. A total of 16 test specimens with a variety of variables such as aspect ratio, friction coefficient of interface in construction joint, reinforcement details, reinforcement ratio in each direction, material properties were selected and the analysis was performed by using a non-linear finite element analysis program (RCAHEST) applying the modified shear friction constitutive equation in interface based on the concrete design code (KCI, 2012) and CEB-FIP Model code 2010. The mean and coefficient of variation for maximum load from the experiment and analysis results was predicted 1.04 and 17% respectively and properly evaluated failure mode and overall behavior characteristic until failure occur. Based on the results, the analysis program that was applied modified shear friction constitutive equation is judged as having a relatively high reliability for the analysis results.

The main object of this research is to minimize the shock effects which frequently result in fatal damage in wind met mast on impact of barge. The collision between wind met mast and barge is generally a complex problem and it is often not practical to perform rigorous finite element analyses to include all effects and sequences during the collision. LS-dyna generally purpose explicit finite element code, which is a product of ANSYS software, is used to model and analyze the non-linear response of the met mast due to barge collision. A significant part of the collision energy is dissipated as strain energy and except for global deformation modes, the contribution from elastic straining can normally be neglected. On applying impact force of a barge to wind met mast, the maximum acceleration, internal energy and plastic strain were calculated for each load cases using the finite element method and then compare it, varying to the velocity of barge, with one varying to the thickness of rubber fender conditions. Hence, we restrict the present research mainly to the wind met mast and also parametric study has been carried out with various velocities of barge, thickness of wind met mast, thickness and Mooney-Rivlin coefficient of rubber fender with experimental data. The equation of motion of the wind met mast is derived under the assumption that it was ignored vertical movement effect of barge on sea water. Such an analyzing method which was developed so far, make it possible to determine the proper size and material properties of rubber fender and the optimal moving conditions of barge, and finally, application method can be suggested in designing process of rubber fender considering barge impact.

Aim: To evaluate validity and responsiveness of four shoulder scoring systems. Material and Method: Twenty-five cases of shoulder instability(22 traumatic, 3 non-traumatic) and twenty-three cases of rotator cuff tear(12 small or medium, 10 large or massive) treated surgically were evaluated with the Shoulder Function Score of the University of Pennsylvania(Penn FS), Constant Score, UCLA Shoulder Rating Scale and Simple Shouler Test(SST), preoperatively and at final follow-up. The average follow-up was 16.0 months in instability group and 17.5 months in rotator cuff tear group. Using the SPSS program, Pearson linear correlation coefficiency(PLCC) between the scores were calculated. And to assess the construct validity, PLCC between patients' satisfaction and the scores were also calculated. Responsiveness was measured by the standardized response mean(SRM). Result: In instability group, correlation between the scoring systems was low preoperatively except between Constant and SST, but high after operation. Patients' satisfaction with the scores showed low PLCC preoperativley, but high PLCC postoperatively. SRM was high in PENN and UCLA, but when the satisfaction segment of the score was eliminated from UCLA, the SRM was the lowest. In rotator cuff tear group, there was high correlation between the scores not only preoperatively but postoperatively. And the patients' satisfaction matched well with the scores. SRM was particularly high in UCLA and SST. Even when satisfaction segment was eliminated from UCLA, the SRM was still the highest. Conclusion : Evaluation by the 4 scoring systems investigated in the study showed less consistency in instability than rotator cuff tear in terms of correlation and validity. Responsiveness was generally higher in rotator cuff tear group than in instability group except for Pennsylvania Shoulder Function Score. Therefore it is construed that use of any among the four scoring systems doesn't make difference in evaluation of rotator cuff lesions. However in instability group, care is needed because different result may be obtained according to the selection of a scoring system.

In this study, the probabilistic internal pressure fragility analysis was performed by using the non-linear finite element analysis method. The target structure is one of the containment buildings of typical domestic pressurized water reactors(PWRs). The 3-dimensional finite element model of the containment building was developed with considering the large equipment hatches. To consider uncertainties in the material properties and structural capacities, we performed the sensitivity analysis of the ultimate pressure capacity with respect to the variation of four important uncertain parameters. The results of the sensitivity analysis were used to the selection of the probabilistic variables and the determination of their probabilistic parameters. To reflect the present condition of the tendon pre-stressing force, the data of the pre-stressing force acquired from the in-service inspections of tendon forces were used for the determination of the median value. Two failure modes(leak, rupture) were considered and their limit states were defined to assess the internal pressure fragility of target containment building. The internal pressure fragilities for each failure mode were evaluated in terms of median internal pressure capacity, high confidence low probability of failure(HCLPF) capacity, and fragility curves with respect to the confidence levels. The HCLPF capacity was 115.9 psig for leak failure mode, and 125.0 psig for rupture failure mode.

The Incheon Bridge, which was opened to the traffic in October 2009, is an 18.4 km long sea-crossing bridge connecting the Incheon International Airport with the expressway networks around the Seoul metropolitan area by way of Songdo District of Incheon City. This bridge is an integration of several special featured bridges and the major part of the bridge consists of cable-stayed spans. This marine cable-stayed bridge has a main span of 800 m wide to cross the vessel navigation channel in and out of the Incheon Port. In waterways where ship collision is anticipated, bridges shall be designed to resist ship impact forces, and/or, adequately protected by ship impact protection (SIP) systems. For the Incheon Bridge, large diameter circular dolphins as SIP were made at 44 locations of the both side of the main span around the piers of the cable-stayed bridge span. This world's largest dolphin-type SIP system protects the bridge against the collision with 100,000 DWT tanker navigating the channel with speed of 10 knots. Diameter of the dolphin is up to 25 m. Vessel collision risk was assessed by probability based analysis with AASHTO Method-II. The annual frequency of bridge collapse through the risk analysis for 71,370 cases of the impact scenario was less than $0.5{\times}10^{-4}$ and satisfies design requirements. The dolphin is the circular sheet pile structure filled with crushed rock and closed at the top with a robust concrete cap. The structural design was performed with numerical analyses of which constitutional model was verified by the physical model experiment using the geo-centrifugal testing equipment. 3D non-linear finite element models were used to analyze the structural response and energy-dissipating capability of dolphins which were deeply embedded in the seabed. The dolphin structure secures external stability and internal stability for ordinary loads such as wave and current pressure. Considering failure mechanism, stability assessment was performed for the strength limit state and service limit state of the dolphins. The friction angle of the crushed stone as a filling material was reduced to $38^{\circ}$ considering the possibility of contracting behavior as the impact.
