  • This paper presents Newtonian formulation of the dynamics of plates treated fully with Active Constrained Layer Damping (ACLD). The developed equations of the plate/ACLD system provide analytical models far predicting the dynamic of laminated plates subjected to passive and active vibration damping controls. Numerical solutions of the analytical models are presented fir simply-supported plates in order to study the performance of the plate/ACLD system for different control strategies. The developed models present invaluable means for designing and predicting the performance of the smart laminated plates that can be used in many critical engineering applications.

  • The use of reactive shearing structural intensity to place small patches of constrained layer damping material in order to achieve the largest reduction in the radiated sound power of Air-conditioner outdoor unit is described. The normal surface velocity of each panel was measured using a laser doppler vibrometer. Experimental results indicated that patches of constrained layer damping material placed over areas of high reactive structural intensity reduced the radiated sound power significantly more than patches of the same area placed over areas of low reactive structural intensity

  • In this paper, geometrically nonlinear free vibration analysis of Mindlin viscoelastic plates with various geometrical and material properties is studied based on the Von-Karman assumptions. A novel solution is proposed in which the nonlinear frequencies of time-dependent plates are predicted according to the nonlinear frequencies of plates not dependent on time. This method greatly reduces the cost of calculations. The viscoelastic properties obey the Boltzmann integral law with constant bulk modulus. The SHPC meshfree method is employed for spatial discretization. The Laplace transformation is used to convert equations from the time domain to the Laplace domain and vice versa. Solving the nonlinear complex eigenvalue problem in the Laplace-Carson domain numerically, the nonlinear frequencies, the nonlinear viscous damping frequencies, and the nonlinear damping ratios are verified and calculated for rectangular, skew, trapezoidal and circular plates with different boundary conditions and different material properties.

  • The viscoelastic layer material is widely used to control the noise and vibration characteristics of the panel structure. This paper describes the design technology of the effective vibration damping treatment using the concept of the equivalent parameter of viscoelastic layer materials. Applying the equivalent parameter concepts based on theories of shell, it is possible to simulate the finite element analysis of damping layer panel treatments on the vibration characteristics of the structure. And it is achieved the reduced computational cost and the optimal design of topological distribution for the reduction of vibration effect.

  • In this paper, we study exponential stabilization of the vibrations of the Kelvin-Voigt type wave equation with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping and acoustic boundary in a bounded domain in $R^n$. To stabilize the systems, we incorporate separately, the internal material damping in the model as like Kang [3]. Energy decay rate are obtained by the exponential stability of solutions by using multiplier technique.

  • A new sandwich composite was investigated in this paper. The honeycomb core of this composite was filled with viscoelastic material in order to obtain an improved damping performance. The viscoelastic fillings in the honeycomb cells was hoped to act as dampers and provide the function of energy dissipation in this combined material system. Dynamic test was set up to the specimens with various stacked carbon/epoxy laminate facesheets, $[0/90]_{4s}$, $[0/45/-45/90]_{2s}$, $[45/-45]_{4s}$. Frequency response, displacement response and damping ratio were checked and compared for the both groups of specimens, with and without rubber fillings. The experimental results provided a good agreement with our material design concept.

  • Attempts have been applied to reduce the vibration of slab. There are several method in the vibration control of slab from a traditional method such as increment of mass or stiffness of slab to a innovative method augmenting damping of slab. In this study, a attempt has been made to increase the effective damping in slab using the viscoelastic dampers made of viscoelastic material. The dampers are installed in a gab between slab and a beam. It is assumed that the stiffness of the beam is infinity for simplicity of the evaluation. we evaluate the reduction effect of the slab selected through numerical simulation and optimization process by applying it to a FEM model. The numerical simulation shows that the effective damping is increased as the number of bean is increased and the vibration control effect is very high.

  • Underwater weapon system is required to structurally strong material, since as it is directly exposed to external shock. It should also be using the lightweight material in order to take advantage of buoyancy. Composite materials meet these requirements simultaneously. Particularly in the case of submarine, composite materials are widely used. It is important to have a high strength enough to be able to withstand external shock, but it is also important to attenuate it. In a method for the shock damping, viscoelastic damping materials are inserted between the high strength composite material as a sandwich structure. Shock attenuation can be evaluated in the loss factor. In ASTM(American Society of Testing Materials), evaluation method of the loss factor of cantilever specimens is specified. In this paper, mode tests of the cantilever are performed by the ASTM standard, in order to calculate the loss factor of the viscoelastic damping material by the specified expression. Further, for verifying of the calculated loss factor, mode test of compound beams is carried out. In addition, the characteristics of the material were analyzed the effect on the loss factor.

  • An optimization formulation of unconstrained damping treatment on beams is proposed to minimize vibration responses using a numerical search method. The fractional derivative model is combined with RUK's equivalent stiffness approach in order to represent nonlinearity of complex modulus of damping materials with frequency and temperature. The loss factors of partially covered unconstrained beam are calculated by the modal strain energy method. Vibration responses are calculated by using the modal superposition method, and of which design sensitivity formula with respect to damping layout is derived analytically. Plugging the sensitivity formula into optimization software, we can determine optimally damping treatment region that gives minimum forced response under a given boundary condition. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is very effective in minimizing vibration responses with unconstrained damping layer treatment.
