In this paper, an analytical solution for thermodynamic response of functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates resting on variable elastic foundation is performed by using a quasi 3D shear deformation plate theory. The displacement field used in the present study contains undetermined integral terms and involves only four unknown functions with including stretching effect. The FG sandwich plate is considered to be subject to a time harmonic sinusoidal temperature field across its thickness with any combined boundary conditions. Equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. The numerical results are compared with the existing results of quasi-3D shear deformation theories and an excellent agreement is observed. Several numerical examples for fundamental frequency, deflection, stress and variable elastic foundation parameter's analysis of FG sandwich plates are presented and discussed considering different material gradients, layer thickness ratios, thickness-to-length ratios and boundary conditions. The results of the present study reveal that the nature of the elastic foundation, the boundary conditions and the thermodynamic loading affect the response of the FG plate especially in the case of a thick plate.

Topology optimization is begun with layout optimization that is attributed to Rozvany and Prager of the 1960's. They claimed that structure was transformed into truss connecting all the nodes of finite element and optimized by control of its sectional modulus. But, this method is partial topology optimization. General layout optimal design appliable to continum structure was proposed by Bendsoe and Kikuchi in 1988. Topology optimization expresses material stiffness of structure into function of arbitrary variable. If this variable is 1, material exists but if this variable is 0, material doesn't exist. Therefore, topology optimization searches the distribution function of material stiffness for structure. There are a few researchs for simple engineering problem such as topology optimization of square plane structure or truss structure. So, This study applied to topology optimization of table liner for vertical roller mill that is the largest scale in the world. After table liner decreased by 20% of original weight, the structure analysis for first optimized model was performed.

Fatigue life prediction under multi-axial variable load were performed for Aluminium 7075-T651 alloy using SAE Notched specimen & Torque tube shaft component specimen. When variable multiaxial load is applied to material, maximum damaged plane(critical plane) change. To clarify the situation, experiment is performed on two different changing load path. For multiaxial fatigue life prediction, miner rule is expanded to critical plane theory. Shear based parameter and Elliptical parameter give better correlation. This suggests that miner rule can be applicable on multi-axial variable load.
This paper introduces a novel approach to multi-material topology optimization (MTO) targeting in-plane bi-directional functionally graded (IBFG) non-uniform thickness Reissner-Mindlin plates, employing an alternative active phase approach. The mathematical formulation integrates a first shear deformation theory (FSDT) to address compliance minimization as the objective function. Through an alternating active-phase algorithm in conjunction with the block Gauss-Seidel method, the study transforms a multi-phase topology optimization challenge with multi-volume fraction constraints into multiple binary phase sub-problems, each with a single volume fraction constraint. The investigation focuses on IBFG materials that incorporate adequate local bulk and shear moduli to enhance the precision of material interactions. Furthermore, the well-established mixed interpolation of tensorial components 4-node elements (MITC4) is harnessed to tackle shear-locking issues inherent in thin plate models. The study meticulously presents detailed mathematical formulations for IBFG plates in the MTO framework, underscored by numerous numerical examples demonstrating the method's efficiency and reliability.
This research investigates a rotary disk with variable cross-section and incompressible hyperelastic material with functionally graded properties in large hyperelastic deformations. For this purpose, a power relation has been used to express the changes in cross-section and properties of hyperelastic material. So that (m) represents the changes in cross-section and (n) represents the manner of changes in material properties. The constants used for hyperelastic material have been obtained from experimental data. The obtained equations have been solved for different m, n, and (angular velocity) values, and the values of radial stresses, tangential stresses, and elongation have been compared. The results show that m and n have a significant impact on disk behavior, so the expected behavior of the disk can be obtained by an optimal selection of these two parameters.
This work proposes an original single variable shear deformation theory to study the buckling analysis of thick isotropic plates subjected to uniaxial and biaxial in-plane loads. This theory is built upon the classical plate theory (CPT) including the exponential function in terms of thickness coordinate to represent shear deformation effect and it involves only one governing differential equation. Efficacy of the present theory is confirmed through illustrative numerical examples. The obtained results are compared with those of other higher-order shear deformation plate theory results.

Although magnesium has high potential for structural material due to the lightweight and high specific strength, the structural application has been limited by the low ductility at room temperature. The reason of the poor ductility is few activated slip systems of magnesium (HCP structure) during deformation. As temperature increases, however, additional non-basal slip systems are incorporated to exhibit higher ductility comparable to aluminum. In the present study, a series of tensile tests of Mg-Al alloy has been carried out to study deformation behavior with temperature variation. Analysis of load relaxation test results based on internal variable approach gave information about relationship between the micromechanical character and corresponding deformation behavior of magnesium. Especially, the material parameter, p representing dislocation permeability through barriers was altered from 0.1 to 0.15 as the non-basal slip systems were activated at high temperature.

The micromachined variable optical attenuator(VOA) was presented in the paper. The VOA has two single mode fiber(SMF) aligned with free space and symmetric parallel plate actuator with microshutter, which can control a amount of light by driving the actuator. In the paper, analysis on driving performances of the VOA was performed and can be reduced threshold voltage through the decreasing displacement actuating range. This paper presents a VOA that is fabricated using bosch deep silicon etching process with silicon on insulator(SOD wafer. The VOA consists of driving electrode, ground electrode, actuating microshutter, and mechanical stopper. In this VOA, actuating shutter is driven by electrostatic force and the threshold voltage is close to 28V, 46V come along with the spring width of 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ respectively. Attenuation range is measured from 2.4㏈ to 16.7㏈.

This paper presents a simple n-order four variable refined theory for the bending and vibration analyses of functionally graded plates. By dividing the transverse displacement into bending and shear parts, the number of unknowns and governing equations of the present theory is reduced, and hence, makes it simple to use. The present theory is variationally consistent, uses the n-order polynomial term to represent the displacement field, does not require shear correction factor, and gives rise to transverse shear stress variation such that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness satisfying shear stress free surface conditions. The governing equations are derived by employing the Hamilton's principle and the physical neutral surface concept. The accuracy of the present solutions is verified by comparing the obtained results with available published ones.
