  • This paper presents a survey results on the material properties sharing system database on composite in USA. The requirements on management and database for Korean composite product that meet KAS (Korean Airworthiness Standard) are suggested. The certification policy on composite material qualification of also introduced. The benefits to material supplier, aircraft manufacturer and certification authority, which get through the database have been considered. The database managing process, composite material manufacturing process, properties and design allowable meeting KAS have been suggested.

  • In this study, fracture analysis of orthotropic FGM (Functionally Graded Material) plate having center crack is performed, numerically. Material axis arbitrarily oriented and there is an angle ${\theta}^{\circ}$ between material and crack axes. Stress intensity factors at the crack tips for Mode I are calculated using Displacement Correlation Method (DCM). In numerical analysis, effects of material properties and variation of angle ${\theta}^{\circ}$ between material and crack axes on the fracture behavior are investigated for four different boundary conditions. Consequently, it is found that the effect of ${\theta}^{\circ}$ on stress intensity factor depends on variation of material properties.

  • Small size gas turbine disk requires good mechanical strength and creep properties at high temperature. In this study, Waspaloy was used as a superalloy to satisfy these specifications. The control of microstructure was needed to satisfy material properties at high temperature. In order to do this, we studied forging conditions and material analysis. Therefore die and preform design conducted so that hot forged gas turbine disk could have a good microstructure. The die and preform shapes are designed with consideration of the predefined hydraulic press capacity and the microstructure of forging product. Also we carried out the hot compression test for Waspaloy in various test conditions. From these results, we obtained the forging conditions as material temperature, die velocity etc. To verify these forging conditions, we conducted FE simulations by means of the DEFORM 2D-HT. In this study, the hot closed die and preform designs were completed to offer high temperature material properties of a small size gas turbine.

  • In this paper, the effects of material properties on the friction and wear behavior of pure metals are investigated. The sliding material pairs are selected based on their relative compatibility and relative hardness ratio of the specimen. The initial and steady-state friction coefficients are obtained in the experiments and the wear rates are quantitatively investigated. It is shown that the initial friction coefficient is affected by the hardness ratio of sliding materials. Furthermore, in steady state condition, neither hardness ratio nor compatibility has significant influence on the frictional behavior. As for wear, the ductility of the metal affects the wear particle generation process which in turn affects the frictional behavior. The findings of this research suggest that frictional interaction cannot be simply characterized by either compatibility or hardness ratio of the materials undergoing sliding contact.

  • We investigated the luminescence properties of $Alq_3$ in the device structure of ITO/CuPc/TPD/$Alq_3$/Al. The CuPc as a hole-injection material and TPD as hole-transport material. Emission properties were measured by varying a layer thickness of CuPc (0 nm to 50 nm), which is the hole-injection layer. As a result, it was found that the hole injection occurs smoothly when the layer thickness was 20 nm among the thicknesses from 0 nm to 50 nm.

  • Geometrically nonlinear axisymmetric bending analysis of shear deformable circular plates on a nonlinear three-parameter elastic foundation was made. Plates ranging from "thin" to "moderately thick" were investigated for three types of material: isotropic, transversely isotropic, and orthotropic. The differential equations were discretized by means of the finite difference method (FDM) and the differential quadrature method (DQM). The Newton-Raphson method was applied to find the solution. A parametric investigation using seven unknowns per node was presented. The novelty of the paper is that detailed numerical simulations were made to highlight the combined effects of the material properties and the boundary conditions on (i) the deflection, (ii) the stress resultants, and (iii) the external load. The formulation was verified through comparison studies. It was observed that the results are highly influenced from the boundary conditions, and from the material properties.

  • We constructed a class Ⅳ Flextensional transducer, and analyzed the effects of the variation in its material properties and structure on the resonance frequency of the transducer. We used the FEM for the analysis. Major axis length, minor axis length, thickness and material properties of the shell turned out to have large effects, while volume of the insert material, material properties and thickness of the ceramic bar have little. Thickness of the nodal-plate has no effect on the resonance frequency. Results of the present work can be utilized to design Class W Flextensional transducers of various resonance frequency.

  • Most previous wave tests for concrete have been done to evaluate static material properties, and thus there are less works to investigate dynamic material characteristics of concrete, which should be few in Korea. The objective of this experimental work is to investigate dynamic material characteristics of concrete, such as dynamic elastic modulus, dynamic shear modulus, first resonant frequency, dynamic poisson's ratio and etc. A dynamic Signal Analyzer has been used to perform the wave analysis for various dynamic material properties of test specimen. First Fourier transform technique has been carried out on various wave data acquired by the Resonant Column method, which is a kind of nondestructive tests. Wave analysis has been performed based on KS F2437, which is similar to ASTM C607-71 and is identical to JIS A 1127-1976.

  • The influence of material properties and process parameters on the strain distribution of stamping parts was studied by finite element method. For the parametric study, the investigation of variation of material properties was carried out with tensile test for a dozens of different steel sheets. The friction test for each surface and lubricants conditions are also carried out because the frictional characteristic is important parameter fur sheet metal forming. The geometry of stamping parts was measured by 3D scanner to build the tool model fer the FE analysis. As a result of analysis the major process parameter fer each automotive parts was investigated.

  • Nanosilver has intrinsic problem to adhesion on the surface of silica. To improve interfacial properties between nanosilver and silica substrate, a thin titanium film is introduced in this study. The titaniumcoated silica substrates are prepared by sputter technique. The commercial silver nanopaste with size around 3-7nm is used in this study. The results indicate thin layer of titanium can improve the bonding properties of nanosilver and expect to be used in fabrication of TFT display panel.
