Development of the Maintenance Process Based on Graphic Simulation for the Parts of the Equipment at the outside of the MSM′s Workspace in a Hot Cell (그래픽 전산모사를 이용한 핫셀 사각지역 내 장치부품 유지보수공정 개발)

  • In this study, the maintenance process by the servo manipulator has been developed for the parts of the equipment, which we unable to reach out by the Master-Slave Manipulator(MSM) in a hot cell. To do this, a virtual mock-up is implemented using the iか prototyping technology. Using this mock-up, the workspace of the manipulators in the hot cell and the operator's view through the wall-mounted lead glass have been analyzed. In addition, the path planning of the servo manipulator using the collision detection function of the virtual mock-up has been established. From these, the maintenance process for the parts of the equipment, which are located at the outside of the MSM's workspace using the servo manipulator has been proposed and verified through the graphic simulation. It is revealed that the proposed remote maintenance process of the equipment can effectively be used in the real hot cell operation. It is also believed that the implemented virtual mock-up of the hot cell can effectively be applied in analyzing the various hot cell operation and enhancing the reliability and safety in a hot cell remote handling for the spent fuel management.

Radiation-training system with a custom survey-meter mock-up in a browser-based mixed reality environment

  • Training for radiation protection and control requires a visual understanding of radiation, which cannot be perceived by the human senses. Trainees must also master the effective use of measuring instruments. Traditionally, such training has exposed trainees to radiation sources. Here, we present a novel e-training strategy that enables safe, exposure-free handling of a radiation measuring tool called a survey meter. Our mixed reality radiation-training system merges the physical world with a digital one. Collaborating with a mixed reality headset (HoloLens 2), this system constructs a mock-up of a survey meter in real-world space. The HoloLens 2 employs a browser-based application to visualize radiation and to simulate/share the use of the survey meter, including its physical movements. To provide a dynamic learning experience, the system adjusts the survey-meter mock-up readings according to the operator's movements, distance from the radiation source, the response time of survey meter, and shielding levels. Through this approach, we expect that trainees will acquire practical skills in interpreting survey-meter readings and gain a visual understanding of radiation in real-world situations.

Development of the Maintenance Process Using Virtual Prototyping for the Equipment in the MSM's Unreachable Area of the Hot cell

  • The process equipment for handling high level radioactive materials like spent fuels is operated in a hot cell, due to high radioactivity. Thus, this equipment should be maintained and repaired optimally by a remotely operated manipulator. The master-slave manipulators(MSM) are widely used as a remote handling device in the hot cell. The equipment in the hot cell should be optimally placed within the workspace of the wall-mounted slave manipulator for the maintenance operation. But, because of the complexity in the hot cell, there would be some parts of the equipment that are not reached by the MSM. In this study, the maintenance process for these parts of the equipment is developed using virtual prototyping technology. To analyze the workspace of the maintenance device in the hot cell and to develop the maintenance processes for the process equipment, the virtual mock-up of the hot cell for the spent fuel handling process is implemented using IGRIP. For the implementation of the virtual mock-up, the parts of the equipment and maintenance devices such as the MSM and servo manipulator are modeled and assembled in 3-D graphics, and the appropriate kinematics are assigned. Also, the virtual workcell of the spent fuel management process is implemented in the graphical environment, which is the same as the real environment. Using this mock-up, the workspace of the manipulators in the hot cell and the operator's view through the wall-mounted lead glass are analyzed. Also, for the dedicated maintenance operation, the analyses for the detailed area of the end effectors in accordance with the slave manipulator's position and orientation are carried out. The parts of the equipment that are located outside of the MSM's workspace are specified and the maintenance process of the parts using the servo manipulator that is mounted in the hot cell is proposed. To monitor the process in the hot cell remotely, the virtual display system by a virtual camera in the virtual work cell is also proposed. And the graphic simulation using a virtual mock-up is performed to verify the proposed maintenance process. The maintenance process proposed in this study can be effectively used in the real hot cell operation and the implemented virtual mock-up can be used for analyzing the various hot cell operations and enhancing the reliability and safety of the spent fuel management.

A Prediction Method using Markov chain for Step Size Control in FMI based Co-simulation (FMI기반 co-simulation에서 step size control을 위한 Markov chain을 사용한 예측 방법)

  • In Functional Mockup Interface(FMI)-based co-simulation, a bisectional algorithm can be used to find the zerocrossing point as a way to improve the accuracy of the simulation results. In this paper, the proposed master algorithm(MA) analyzes the repeated interval graph and predicts the next interval by applying the Markov Chain to the step size. In the simulation, we propose an algorithm to minimize the rollback by storing the step size that changes according to the graph type as an array and applying it to the next prediction interval when the rollback occurs in the simulation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the simulation time by more than 20% compared to the existing algorithm.

  • It is not an overstatement to say that the functions of the products change and the results determine the size and weight of the product. It took a long time to develop the small size everyday tools. One of the ways to shorten the development time was the emergence of vacuum moulds that decreased the design process significantly. In other words, the manufacturing of the product may be limited by the size and shape, but the replication of a simple structure is possible within a few hours. This study aims to review and suggest the design development through vacuum moulds as an area to realize the future additional values to the economic growth under the rapidly changing industry structures as well as securing the weaknesses of the industry structures through the productivity and competitiveness of the corporations.
