  • Fragmentations and proton transfer reactions of mono-, di-, and triethanolamines were studied using FTMS. It was found that the most abundant fragment ion was $[M-CH_2OH]^+$. The $[M-CH_2OH-H_2O]^+$ was observed in the mass spectra of diethanolamine and triethanolamine. By increasing the ion trapping time in the ICR cell, the $[M+H]^+$ and $[M+H-H_2O]^+$ ions were notably increased for all the samples while the $[M+H-2H_2O]^+$ was observed in the mass spectra of diethanolamine and triethanolamine. The proton transfer reactions between the fragment ions and neutral molecules occurred predominantly by increasing the ion trapping time. The rate constants for the proton transfer reactions were calculated from experimental results. The proton transfer reaction of $CHO^+$ was the fastest one, which is consistent with the heats of reaction. The rate constants for proton transfer reactions of triethanolamine were much slower than those of ethanolamine and diethanolamine because of the steric hindered structure of triethanolamine. The plausible structures of observed ions and heats of reaction for proton transfer were calculated with AM1 semiempirical method.

  • The present study predicted the effect of the flow rate of coolant on the absorption performance of a vertical falling film type absorber Heat and mass transfer peformances were numerically investigated. The exit temperatures of solution and coolant were decreased as the flow rate of the coolant was increased at the film Reynolds number of 100. The absorption mass flux was increased and then decreased as the distance from the inlet of the absorber was increased. The distance showing the maximum absorption mass flux was ranged from 0.3 to 0.5m. The heat flux and the absorption mass flux were increased and then slowly decreased as the flow rate of the coolant was increased. The maximum values were obtained at the flow rate of coolant of 2.0L/min.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of operating condition and ejector geometries on the hydrodynamics and on the mass transfer characteristic of ejector. The CFD results were validated with available experimental data. Flow field analyses and predictions of ejector performance were also carried out. Variation on the operating conditions was made by varying the gas-liquid flow rate ratio in the range of 0.2 to 1.2. The ejector configuration was also varied on the length to diameter ratio of mixing tube ($L_M/D_M$) in the range of 4 to 10. CFD studies show that at $L_M/D_M$ 5.5, the volumetric mass transfer coefficient increases with respect to gas flow rates. Meanwhile, at $L_M/D_M$ 4, the plot of volumetric mass transfer coefficient to gas-liquid flow rates ratio reach maximum at gas-liquid flow rates ratio of 0.6. This study also shows that volumetric mass transfer coefficient decrease with respect to the increase of mixing tube length.

  • The present study investigated the effects of channel rotation and bleed flow on heat/mass transfer in a $90^{\circ}$ ribbed square channel. The bleed holes were located between the rib turbulators on the leading surface and those on the trailing surface case by case. The tests were conducted under the conditions of various bleeding ratios (0.0, 0.2, 0.4) and rotation numbers (0.0, 0.2, 0.4) at Re=10,000. The results suggested that heat/mass transfer characteristics were influenced by the Coriolis force, bleed flow and bleed hole location. The heat/mass transfer on the surface with bleed flow was more increased than that without bleed flow but that on the opposition surface was decreased. Those were due to the effects of the tripping flow and the diminution of main flow rate respectively. The results also showed that the heat/mass transfer characteristics were different according to bleed hole location and channel rotation.

  • As a mass flow controller is widely used in many manufacturing processes for controlling a mass flow rate of gas with accuracy of 1%, several investigators have tried to describe the heat transfer phenomena in a sensor tube of an MFC. They suggested a few analytic solutions and numerical models based on simple assumptions, which are physically unrealistic. In the present work, the heat transfer phenomena in the sensor tube of the MFC are studied by using both experimental and numerical methods. The numerical model is introduced to estimate the temperature profile in the sensor tube as well as in the gas stream. In the numerical model, the conjugate heat transfer problem comprising the tube wall and the gas stream is analyzed to fully understand the heat transfer interaction between the sensor tube and the fluid stream using a single domain approach. This numerical model is further verified by experimental investigation. In order to describe the transport of heat energy in both the flow region and the sensor tube, the Nusselt number at the interface between the tube wall and the gas stream as well as heatlines is presented from the numerical solution.

  • The solid-liquid mass transfer coefficients $k_L$ in a gas-liquid-solid three phases agitated vessel were measured with conventional impellers (e.g. Rushton turbine, paddle, and propeller). For the conventional impellers the rotational speed for the complete suspension $N_{js}$ changes with the impeller height and gas flow rate. Mass transfer coefficient of the Rushton turbin impeller, for which the particle suspension was independent of the aeration, is correlated only with Pgv. Mass transfer coefficients $k_L$ for the Rushton turbine, paddle and propeller impellers were affected by the impeller position.

  • Liquid desiccant material, such as lithium chloride (LiCl) or halide slits are usually used on air conditioning application for controlling the humidity of high Outdoor Air (OA). Solar energy is usually used to heat the liquid in regeneration process of those desiccant. The mass transfer it self is driven by the temperature different between the liquid desiccant and the input air. This experiment study is analyzing the characteristic of the aqueous LiCl-air temperature different in variance specific gravity, especially in range of temperature different using the solar energy as the heat generator. The experiment has done by variating the concentration of the LiCl with specific gravity 1.210 and 1.150. For the comparison the pure water is also used. The result show that the mass transfer rate is increased in every variation as the increases of the temperature different, and the weeker aqueous solution of the LiCl the highest mass transfer coefficient.

  • In the present study, the improvement of absorption characteristics on combined heat and mass transfer process in a falling film of a vertical absorber by change of geometric parameters were studied experimentally and analytically. The energy and diffusion equations are solved simultaneously to give the temperature and concentration variations at the liquid solution-refrigerant vapor interface and at the wall. Absorption behaviors of heat and mass transfer were analyzed through falling film of the LiBr aqueous solution contacted by refrigerant vapor in the absorber. Effects of film Reynolds number, geometric parameters by insert device (spring) and flow pattern on heat and mass transfer performances have been also investigated. Especially, effects of the flow pattern by geometric parameters have been considered to observe the total heat and mass transfer rates through falling film along the absorber. As a numerical and experimental result, maximum absorption rate was shown at the wave-flow by insert device (spring). The error ranges between experiment and analysis were from 5.8 to 12% at Re$_{f}$ > 100.0.

  • In this paper, heat/mass transfer characteristics on a film cooled stationary rotor blade are investigated using the naphthalene sublimation method. A row-speed annular wind tunnel with a single annular turbine stage is used. Three rows of film cooling holes are machined on the leading edge of the test blade. Detailed heat/mass transfer distributions are measured with changing the blowing rate from 1.0 to 2.0. As the blowing ratio increases, overall heat/mass transfer increases and the lower peak formed on the pressure side were disappeared.

  • In this paper all the photoelectric times of minimum for the triple star SW Lyn have been analyzed in terms of light-time effect due to the third-body and secular period decreases induced by mass transfer process. The light-time orbit determined recently by Ogloza et al.(1998) were modified and improved. And it is found that the orbital period of SW Lyn have been decreasing secularly. The third-body revolves around the mass center of triple stars every $5^y.77$ in a highly eccentric elliptical orbit(e=0.61). The third-body with a minimum mass of $1.13M_{odot}$ may be a binary or a white dwarf. The rate of secular period-decrease were obtained as ${Delta}P/P=-12.45{ imes}10^{-11}$, implying the mass-transfer from the massive primary star to the secondary. The mass losing rate from the primary were calculated as about $1.24{ imes}10^{-8}M_{odot}/y$. It is noticed that the mass-transfer in SW Lyn system is opposite in direction to that deduced from it's Roche geometry by previous investigators.
