A Basic Study on a Double Deck Train Model (2층열차 차량모델에 대한 기초연구)

  • In recent years, due to the continuous concentration of population and sharp increment of commuters around Seoul metropolitan area, traffic jam has become one of severe problems along with housing in this area. In oder to solve the problem like the one mentioned above, several countries such as Japan, France and so on gradually operate double deck trains as efficient, reliable and comfortable mass transportation systems. However, the double deck train has weak points such as big cross sectional area and high mass center that cause unsafe vehicle running performances and interface problems between the vehicles and infrastructures. Therefore, prior to operate double deck trains on the existing lines, careful investigations should be performed. For these reasons, we have investigated foreign double deck trains and studied the technologies for a double deck train as an alternative way to carry heavy transportation efficiently and comfortably.

  • During the last several years, the high speed railway system has been constructed and it is scheduled to open sometime in 2004. To fulfil its duties, it is essential to view intermodalism in the context of broader technological developments in easy access to high speed railway station. And also, to understand the economic importance of intermodal transportation, continual research is needed on the costs and distributional effects of alternative intermodal mechanisms for public works, including direct service to local station or easy transfer to other mass transportation modes. In this paper, necessary courses for local governments involvement are taken, and additional resources must be found that will benefit the entire railway system.

  • The change of the transportation circumstance related to the deep environmental pollution, escalation of the energy price, increasing social cost of the congestion and traffic accident, improving a income level, advanced social structure etc, is rapidly proceeded. For the corresponding this transportation circumstance, the role of the railway is being increased and that is friendly with environment, efficient for the energy, observed the time schedule and the transportation device which is high speed and safe mass transportation. In addition, government's R&D investment is being increased according to deeping a strength of the international competitiveness through the technical innovation. So railway's R&D investment is being increased. Accordingly, This study suggest improving a fruit of the R&D related to railway R&D system for a efficient R&D investment.

  • Today travel demand in the City of Pusan is increasing with the wide scope of activity and the better living circumstances as a big city with a population of about 4 million. Also, the transportation problem of Pusan city becomes one of the severest urban problems with travel demand increasing in spite of the continuous expansion of the transportation facilities. The purpose in this study is to find the travel characteristics on the arterial under the study, construct the optimal Transportation System Management(TSM) which could increase the travel capacity of the arterial based upon the optimal travel systems constructed. Thus, it was concluded that more emphasis should be of the automobiles into the Downtown areas, increase the travel capacity of the arterial through Mass Transportation System(MTS) including the HOV lanes or the Bus Exclusive Lanes instead.

  • The characteristics of ice packing factor (IPF) at the ice slurry system using one line type are compared with the system using two lines type. The installation space for one transporting line is saved at the one line system. For the one line type, the ice packing factor is reduced along the downstream, but for the two lines type, the ice packing factor is fixed. For the one line system, mass flow rate in the main line is fixed along the down-stream, but for two lines system, the mass flow rate in the main line is reduced along the downstream. For one line system, along the down stream after IPF=0, the temperature at the main steam is increased, and the extracted mass flow is increased. The initial IPF, at which the IPF is not arrived at zero upto the final node, is proposed for the B area.

  • The major trade area of the South Korea is divided into Asia, America and Europe. Generally, marine transportation is the main method of mass cargo transportation, but unlike others, rail transportation is available in the Europe area. Also, as a result of China's growth, South Korea's position as northeast Asia logistics hub has weakened. That is the reason why we need to pay attention to rail transportation, an alternative competitive structure. In accordance with this background, this study focuses on analyzing economic feasibility comparing transportation routes to Europe using Trans-Korea Railway and Trans-Siberia Railway. Factors of analysis are transportation distance, period, cost and additional cost As the result, considering economic feasibility, TKR-TSR route(Route1) is the best transportation approach for six routes. Therefore, using TKR-TSR railway will be the best way to increase nation's competitiveness, in response to Russia government's far-east development strategy.

Exhaust VOCs Emission Characteristics from Motor Vehicles (자동차의 배기관 VOCs 배출 특성)

  • Since mobile source is a major source of VOCs, quantifying emissions from motor vehicles is an important factor to control VOCs in atmosphere. In this study, in order to evaluate tailpipe VOCs emissions from motor vehicles, mass emissions of non-methane volatile organic compounds from 45 vehicles were determined. Measurements were made on a chassis dynamometer using CVS-75 mode and speed specific drive modes. Target VOCs are 53 compounds determined as the volatile ozone precursors. The individual VOCs composition of vehicle emission and emission rates were also determined. In case of gasoline vehicles, VOCs emission from over 80,000 km vehicles were about 46% larger than less 80,000 km vehicles. The difference in benzene and toluene according to driving mileage was 44% and 26% respectively. The composition of VOCs were different by fuel type. The order of VOCs composition was paraffins>aromatics>olefins in gasoline vehicle emissions, paraffins>olefins>aromatics in light duty diesel vehicle emissions. The VOCs emissions were decreased as vehicle speed increasing. These results will be used to calculate total VOCs emissions from automobiles in the future.

Influence of interaction between coal and rock on the stability of strip coal pillar

  • The constrained conditions of roof and floor for the coal pillar affect the strength of coal pillar very seriously. To analyze the influence of rock mass for the roof and floor on the stability of coal pillar comprehensively, one method based on the mechanical method for the composite rock mass was proposed. In this method, the three rock layers of roof, floor and coal pillar are taken as the bedded composite rock mass. And the influence of rock mass for the roof and floor on the elastic core of coal pillar has been analyzed. This method can obtain not only the derived stress by the cohesive constraining forces for the coal pillar, but also the derived stress for the rock mass of the roof and floor. Moreover, the effect of different mechanical parameters for the roof and floor on the stability of coal pillar have been analyzed systematically. This method can not only analyze the stability of strip coal pillar, but also analyze the stability of other mining pillars whose stress distribution is similar with that of the strip coal pillar.

On mode localization of a weakly coupled beam system with spring-mass attachments

  • There are a large number of papers in the literature dealing with the free vibration analysis of single/multi-span uniform beam with multiple spring-mass systems, but that of coupled multi-span beams carrying spring-mass attachments is rare. In this note, free vibration analysis of a weakly coupled beam system with spring-mass attachments is conducted. The mode localization and frequency loci veering phenomena of the coupled beam system are investigated. Studies show that for weakly coupled beam system with spring-mass attachments, the mode localization and frequency loci veering will occur once there is a disorder in the system.
