We introduce a novel method for reconstructing the projected dark matter mass maps of merging galaxy clusters by applying the convolutional neural network (CNN) to their weak lensing maps. We generate synthesized grayscale images from given weak lensing maps that preserve their averaged galaxy ellipticity. We then apply them to multi-layered CNN with architectures of alternating convolution and trans-convolution filters to predict the mass maps. We train our architecture with 1,000 Subaru/Suprime-Cam mock weak lensing maps, and our method have better mass map prediction than the Kaiser-Squires method with the following three aspects: (1) better pixel-to-pixel correlation, (2) more accurate finding of density peak position, and (3) free from mass-sheet degeneracy. We also apply our method to the HST weak lensing map of the El Gordo cluster and compare our result to the previous studies.
The permeability coefficient is an essential parameter for the study of seepage flow in fractured rock mass. This paper discusses the feasibility and application value of using readily available RQD (rock quality index) data to estimate mine water inflow and grouting quantity. Firstly, the influence of different fracture frequencies on permeability in a unit area was explored by combining numerical simulation and experiment, and the relationship between fracture frequencies and pressure and flow velocity at the monitoring point in fractured rock mass was obtained. Then, the stochastic function generation program was used to establish the flow analysis model in fractured rock mass to explore the relationship between flow velocity, pressure and analyze the universal law between fracture frequency and permeability. The concepts of fracture width and connectivity are introduced to modify the permeability calculation formula and grouting formula. Finally, based on the on-site grouting water control example, the rock mass quality index is used to estimate the mine water inflow and the grouting quantity. The results show that it is feasible to estimate the fracture frequency and then calculate the permeability coefficient by RQD. The relationship between fracture frequency and RQD is in accordance with exponential function, and the relationship between structure surface frequency and permeability is also in accordance with exponential function. The calculation results are in good agreement with the field monitoring results, which verifies the rationality of the calculation method. The relationship between the rock mass RQD index and the rock mass permeability established in this paper can be used to invert the mechanical parameters of the rock mass or to judge the permeability and safety of the rock mass by using the mechanical parameters of the rock mass, which is of great significance to the prediction of mine water inflow and the safety evaluation of water inrush disaster management.
We have conducted UBVI CCD photometry of an intermediate-age open cluster NGC 559 to investigate the effect of dynamical evolution on the stellar distributions in NGC 559. Our photometry allows better estimates of distance and age of the cluster owing to much deeper photometry (V $\le$ 21) than previous ones. It is found that the luminosity function and mass function as well as the spatial stellar distributions are affected by the dynamical evolution. Mass segregation leads to the central concentration of the high mass stars, which results in the flattened mass function inside the half mass radius.
The thiohydantoin derivative derived from amino acid was used for the stepwise sequence analysis of peptide or protein from the carboxyl termini. Recently, SUZUKI reported the mass spectrometric identification about a part of these compounds. In this paper, was described the mass spectrometric identification of thiohydantoins derived from 20 amino acids. Mass spectra were obtained with a mass spectrometer, JEOL model JMS-06H and samples were introduced with a direct inlet probe. The molecular ion peaks and fragment ion peaks were identified easily, because these peaks appeared differently every amino acids and specially, it was easy discrimination between leucine and isoleucine. It is suggested that mass spectrometry was one of the useful methods to identify thiohydantoins derived from amino acids.
Cu-matrix-sintered brake pads and heat-resistant low-alloy steel are commonly applied to basic brake systems in high-energy moving machines. We analyzed how the tribological characteristics are influenced by the inertial mass. A high inertial mass decreased the friction coefficient by about 15% compared to a low inertial mass under all velocity conditions. The wear rates of the friction materials increased with the inertial mass. Thus, the inertial mass influences the friction coefficient and wear rate of the friction materials and disk but not the friction stability.
Structural analyses of oligosaccharide-malononitrile derivatives were conducted by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization post-source decay (MALDI-PSD) analysis in positive ion mode. The malononitrile derivatives of oligosaccharides, which were developed for highly sensitive detection of multi-component oligosaccharides by negative ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS), were detected by positive-ion MALDI with the detection limit of 2 pmol level from the crude derivatization sample. The used matrix affected drastically the analytical results of oligosaccharide-malononitrile derivative by matrix-assisted laser desoprtion/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS). The malononitrile derivatization of oligosaccharide also affect the patterns of MALDI-PSD spectra and give much more structural information than the free oligosaccharide.
Mass is one of the most fundamental quantities of a stellar object, and direct estimations of mass from the rotation kinematics of circumstellar disk are important in understanding the evolution of young stellar objects. We present our observations of the NGC 1333 IRAS 4A2 protostar in the ammonia lines. The emission structure was interpreted as a circumstellar disk around the protostar. The disk has a Keplerian-like rotation curve, and we derived the mass of the protostar. The mass, accretion rate, and age are consistent with what are expected from the standard theory of low-mass star formation.
Pyrolysis-mass spectrometry has been used to characterize the 17 biological materials including bacteria and proteins. In this study, an in situ thermal-hydrolysis methylation(THM) procedure using tetramethylammonium hydroxide(TMAH) was employed. The biological materials are ionized using chemical ionization(CI) method with ethanol by ion trap mass spectrometer(ITMS), which attached with our own made pyrolyzer module, and then their pyrolysis mass spectra were obtained. The major distinct characteristic peaks were selected from all the range of mass spectra, and analyzed using principal component analysis(PCA) method to assess the classification/identification possibility of biological materials.
Recently, osteosarcopenic obesity (OSO) has been identified and notified world wide. Therefore, this study reviewed OSO related to lifestyle factors such as nutritional intake and exercise. Due to aging, OSO may be initiated by dietary factors and obesity related factors. Reduced muscle mass and increased fat mass may negatively impact bone health causing OSO. The complication of OSO development should be related to dietary imbalance combined with declined exercise and this may contribute to induce OSO by decreasing bone mass, muscle mass, and increasing obesity with aging. To prevent OSO, reaching peak bone mass and building optimal muscle and fat mass through exercise would be recommended. For treating OSO, balanced dietary intake and regular exercise through a whole life would be needed. In addition, sufficient carbohydrate and fat intake for minimizing protein catabolism would be recommended to prevent OSO. The combination of aerobic exercise and resistance training also would be an effective intervention for OSO population.
This study investigated the effect of strain on hole mobility and hole effective mass in a p-channel rectangular nanowire with two-dimensional confinement. We obtained the valence energy band structure using the six-band k.p method and calculated the mobility and effective mass of the hole in the [100] direction taking the strain effect into account in the inversion region. The hole mobility of strained silicon was calculated using Kubo-Greenwood formalism. As a result, it showed good performance compared to relaxed silicon, but its magnitude was insignificant.
