Performance Prediction of a Gas Turbine Using CO2 as Working Fluid (CO2를 작동유체로 하는 가스터빈의 성능예측)

  • This study investigated the changes in performance and operating characteristics of an F-class gas turbine according to the change of working fluid from air to carbon dioxide. The revised gas turbine is the topping cycle of the semi-closed oxy-fuel combustion combined cycle. With the same turbine inlet temperature, the $CO_2$ gas turbine is expected to produce about 85% more power. The main contributor is the greater compressor mass flow and the added oxygen flow for the combustion. Compressor pressure ratio increases about 50%. However, the gas turbine efficiency reduces about 10 %. Modulation of inlet guide vane to reduce the compressor inlet mass flow, the major purpose of which is to reduce the compressor inlet Mach number, was also performed.

  • 본 논문에서는 2상 횡유동의 진동 메카니즘을 규명하기 위한 실험계획의 일환으로 실시된 실험으로 부터 튜브집합체의 추가질량(hydrodynamic mass)과 감쇠 (damping)에 대해 고찰하였다. 실험은 튜브배열과 피치 대 직경비(pitch-over-di- ameter:.rho./d)가 상이한 튜브집합체에 대해 2상 유체를 모의한 공기-물(air-water) 혼합물에서 수행하였다. 액체상태로부터 99%의 보이드율까지 변화된 2상 유체의 유량은 튜브가 유체탄성 불안정성 (fluidelastic instability)에 도달할 때까지 점진적으로 증가하였다.

  • When a molten corium is relocated in a lower head of a reactor vessel, the ERVC (External Reactor Vessel Cooling) system is actuated as coolant is supplied into a reactor cavity to remove a decay heat from the molten corium during a severe accident. To achieve this severe accident mitigation strategy, the two-phase natural circulation flow in the annular gap between the external reactor vessel and the insulation should be formed sufficiently by designing the coolant inlet/outlet area and gap size adequately on the insulation device. For this reason, one-dimensional natural circulation flow tests were conducted to estimate the natural circulation flow under the ERVC condition of APR1400. The experimental facility is one-dimensional and scaled-down as the half height and 1/238 rectangular channel area of the APR1400 reactor vessel. As the water inlet area increased, the natural circulation mass flow rate asymptotically increased, that is, it converged at a specific value. And the circulation mass flow rate also increased as the outlet area, injected air flow rate, and outlet height increased. But the circulation mass flow rate was not changed along with the external water level variation if the water level was higher than the outlet height.

A Study on Flow Characteristics of Ejector for Cyclone Air Drying Machine (사이클론 건조기용 이젝터 유동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the performance of a cyclone drying machine and air ejector used in drying applications. This paper deals with optimization of the geometry of the ejector for sludge drying using computational fluid dynamics. To facilitate the design of a jet ejector for air drying machines, a numerical model of simultaneous mass and heat transfers between the liquid(sludge) and gas(air) phases in the jet ejector was developed. The steady-state model was based on unidimensional balance equations of mass, energy and momentum for the liquid and gas phases. It was shown that the optimum condition to minimize pressure and momentum loss of air in the ejector was d=220mm. It was found that sludge particles inside the cyclone was smoothly discharged by the conical wedge installed on the bottom of the cyclone.

  • The present study has been conducted to investigate convective heat/mass transfer in the cooling passage with bleed holes. The rotating square channel has 40.0 mm hydraulic diameter and the bleed holes on the leading surface of the channel. The hole diameter of bleed hole is 4.5mm and its spacing is ( p/d:4.9) about five times of hole diameter. Exit mass flow rate through bleed holes is $10\%$ of the main mass flow rate and relation number is changed form 0.0 to 0.4. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy The cooling performance is influenced by exit mass flow rate through bleed holes and Coriolis force of rotating channel for fixed Reynolds number. The heat transfer on the leading surface is decreased due to Coriolis force. However the total heat transfer is enhanced around holes on the leading surface because of trapping flow by bleeding.

Development of mass aerosol particle generator and fabrication of commercial anti-viral air filter (대용량 입자 발생 장치 개발 및 이를 이용한 항바이러스 공조용 공기필터 제조)

  • Since airborne viruses have been known to aggravate indoor air quality, studies on development of anti-viral air filter increase recently. In this study, a mass aerosol particle generator for coating a commercial air filter (over $300{\times}300mm^2$) was built, and evaluated by comparing a commercial particle generator. Then, via this device, a commercial air filter was coated with anti-viral material ($SiO_2-Ag$ nanoparticles in this study), so fabrication of commercial anti-viral air filter was performed and the pressure drop, filtration efficiency, and anti-viral ability of the filter were evaluated against aerosolized bacteriophage MS2 in a continuous air flow condition. The result showed that the particle generation of the new generator was more than about 8.5 times over which of the commercial one. Consequently, $SiO_2-Ag$ particle coating on a filter does not have significant effects on the filtration efficiency and pressure drop with different areas, and the average anti-viral efficiency of the $SiO_2-Ag$ filter was about 92% when the coating areal density was $1.0{\times}10^{12}particles/m^2$.

Experimental Investigation for the Characteristics of Energy Separation of a Vortex Tube at Various Inlet and outlet Pressure Conditions (입.출구의 압력조건에 따른 보텍스 튜브의 에너지분리 특성에 관한 실험적 고찰)

  • The experimental investigation on energy separation in a vortex tube has been carried out to sow the effect of inlet and outlet pressures with various working fluids(air,$O_2,\;and\; CO_2$). Those outlet pressure means cold outlet and hot outlet pressure which were set equally. The results showed that the total enthalpy variation became a maximum when the mass flow rate at the cold outlet was a half of the total mass flow rate in the vortex tube (y=0.5). The total enthalpy variation was quite affected by the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of vortex tube when the ratio of the inlet pressure to the cold outlet pressure remained constant. Although specific enthalpy differences between the inlet and the outlet (both cold and hot outlet) did not noticeably vary with the pressure difference, the specific enthalpy difference between the inlet and cold outlet was dominantly affected by physical properties of working gases.

A Study on Thermal Storage Performance and Characteristics of Daily Operation of a Hybrid Solar Air-Water Heater (복합형 태양열 가열기의 일일 운전 특성 및 축열 성능에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a thermal storage performance and characteristics of daily operation were investigated when the air and the liquid were heated simultaneously by a hybrid solar air-water heater that can make hot water as well as heated air. The hybrid solar air-water heater is kind of a flat plate solar collector that can make hot water and heated air by installing air channel beneath absorber plate of traditional flat plate solar collector for hot water. As a result of daily operation, maximum water temperature reached in a thermal storage was shown $44^{\circ}C$ on 73kg/h of air mass flow rate and about $40^{\circ}C$ on 176kg/h of air mass flow rate. Thus, the necessity of heating water in thermal storage by operating only liquid side was confirmed when the temperature of liquid in thermal storage is lower than we need. In case of efficiency investigated on daily operation, the thermal efficiency of the liquid side was decreased with increment of the inlet liquid temperature and decrement of the solar radiation, but efficiency of the air side was increased with increment of inlet liquid temperature difference as the traditional solar air heater. Total thermal efficiency of the collector was shown from 65.85% to 78.23% and it was decreased with increment of the inlet liquid temperature and decrement of solar radiation same as the traditional system.

A Preliminary Study of Low Temperature Condition by Heat Exchanger (열교환기를 이용한 저온 환경 구축에 대한 기초 연구)

  • A preliminary, study of low temperature condition was performed to simulate high altitude condition. The mixed air temperature were investigated at various condition by experiments using cryogenic air by heat exchanger and normal temperature air. An experimental setup was constructed to simulate low temperature condition with liquid nitrogen. To control mass flow rate, orifice and pressure regulators were used. The experimental results show that the mixed air temperature increases linearly with mass flow rate of normal temperature air. Therefore it can be help to simulate a low temperature condition of high altitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to perform modelings and experiments to measure air flow rate using hot-wires and a CTA(Constant Temperature Anemometer). The flow rate can be obtained by measuring the heat loss of the hot-wire due to the variations of flow velocity when the hot-wire is maintained at uniform temperature. But the defect of this method is that the output signal changes not only by the flow rate but also by the ambient temperature. Thus, in the present study, a method which compensates the variations of the ambient temperature has been introduced to measure exact flow rate. To be more specific, the bridge circuit of the usual hot-wire anemometer system has been modified in such a way that a temperature resistance sensor and a variable resistance are placed in one of the legs to compensate the different temperature coefficients of both the hot-wire and the temperature compensating resistance for flow velocity or for flow mass up to the flow temperature of 50 .deg.C. Comparing the modeling and experimental results, it has been shown that the compensating point differs as the flow rate varies. Therefore, optimum compensation points are sought to construct the circuit. The present modeling and experimental results may be applied to the design of actual air flow meters for automobiles.
