Atypical thymic carcinoid is an extremely rare tumor with a poor prognosis. In addition to its known association with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, its hallmark characteristics include local invasion and early distant metastasis. In this report, we share our experience treating atypical thymic carcinoid in a patient with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Gouty ulcer can be caused by the accumulation of clumps of uric acid in body tissues that lead to acute or chronic inflammation at sites of accumulation. Furthermore, tophi-inhibiting granulation tissue may form a canal that channels microbial infection from the underlying involved joint space, and thus, presents the risk of osteomyelitis development. Accordingly, gouty ulcer must be treated appropriately. In this case, refractory wounds on gouty ulcers at the left shin and left radial ankle were treated by surgical debridement. Negative-pressure wound therapy was used successfully to prevent post-operative delayed wound healing.

중피종은 늑막의 중피세포에서 발생되는 매우 드문 종양이며, 저혈당은 비섬세포(Non-islet cell) 종양에서 발생되는 매우 드문 증상으로 알려져 있다. 본 저자들은 좌측 흉강을 차지하며 저혈당을 동반한 환자에서 종양의 수술적 제거직후 증상이 사라졌으며, 조직학적으로는 국소섬유종의 소견을 보일 경우를 치험하여 보고하는 바이다.

We report here a case of oral myiasis in the Republic of Korea. The patient was a 37-year-old man with a 30-year history of Becker's muscular dystrophy. He was intubated due to dyspnea 8 days prior to admission to an intensive care unit (ICU). A few hours after the ICU admission, 43 fly larvae were found during suction of the oral cavity. All maggots were identified as the third instars of Lucilia sericata (Diptera: Calliphoridae) by morphology. We discussed on the characteristics of myiasis acquired in Korea, including the infection risk and predisposing factors.

저자들은 대량객혈을 주소로 입원한 32세 여자 환자에서 기관하부에 종괴를 발견하고, 종괴자체로 인한 호흡곤란이나 기도폐쇄 소견없이 단지 재발하는 객혈이 문제되어 기관내로 내시경적 처치가 가능하고 광선 응고효과가 뛰어난 Nd:YAG 레이저를 사용하여 치유한 기관 혈관종 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

본 논문은 1830년 프랑스 파리 뤼 뒤 박에서 발현한 성모상을 분석심리학적으로 고찰하고 있다. 이를 위해, 중세기 연금술서 『로이즈너의 판도라』(1588)에 실려 있는 '성모 마리아의 대관식으로 묘사된 육체의 신성화'라는 제목의 그림을 전거로 삼아 성모상에 드러나는 원형적 모티프들을 확충하였다. 이 성모상에는 융 심리학의 핵심 개념인 개성화의 과정과 결과를 보여주는 원형적 모티프들이 집약되어 나타난다. 판도라 그림이나 발현 성모상에서 나타나는 개성화 과정을 표현하는 이런 상징들은 집단적 무의식을 구성하는 신화소들의 표현이다. 융은 이 신화소들이 모든 종교의 궁극적인 바탕이며 모체로 보았다. 발현한 성모상에 나타나는 신화소들을 살펴볼 때, 성모 발현 현상은 집단적 무의식에 배열된 자기 원형상이 시공간의 영역, 즉 시간과 공간을 인지 범주로 삼고 있는 목격자 개인의 의식에 나타난 것이다. 뤼 뒤 박 성모상은 그리스도교의 십자고상(十字苦像) 상징에서 충분히 표현되지 못했던 신성과 인간성의 대극 융합을 보여준다. 이런 의미에서 보면, 발현한 성모상은 물병자리 시대를 여는 새로운 구세주의 상이다. 성모상은 신성이 인간의 내면으로부터 기원하며, 따라서 육체를 지닌 각각의 인간이 신성을 육화하는 바탕이며 심리학적 구원의 주체임을 보여준다. 성모상은 그리스도교가 지닌 영적인 가치가 급격하게 감소하는 시대에 인간의 정신이 담지하고 있는 신성의 가치를 일깨워 준다.

Mucoceles are common benign cystic lesions of the oral cavity that develop following extravasation or retention of mucous material from the major or minor salivary glands. Mucoceles are usually located in the lower lip (60 to 70% of cases), and the floor of the mouth is only involved in 6 to 15% of cases. Submandibular gland mucocele is extremely rare but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of swelling at the submandibular triangle in young children. We present the rare case of a 16-month-old child who was diagnosed with bilateral submandibular gland mucocele, presenting as serial swellings in both submandibular regions. We removed the cystic mass with the submandibular and sublingual glands to prevent recurrence.
