한국 여성의 생애 유형: 저출산과 M자형 취업곡선에의 함의 (Patterns of Korean Women′s Life Course)

  • 이 연구는 결혼, 출산, 취업 시기와 순서에 기초하여 한국 여성의 생애과정의 유형적 특성을 분석하고 있다. 또한 생애 유형의 변화와 집단간 차이에 유의하면서 결혼코호트와 여성의 가족ㆍ개인 특성에 따라 생애 유형의 차이를 설명하고 있다. 분석에 활용한 자료는 2002년 한국여성개발원이 조사한 '제4차 여성 취업실태조사'이다. 초혼 경험이 있는 기혼 여성의 생애는 크게 다섯 유형으로 구분되었다. 결혼과 출산기간에도 쉬지 않고 계속 일한 여성(일ㆍ가족역할 중복형, 13.7%), 결혼 전에 일하였지만 출산/육아기간 동안 일을 그만두고 공백기 이후 다시 일자리로 돌아온 여성(M형, 18.6%), 결혼과 출산 직후 일을 그만 둔 여성(잠재 M형, 26.9%), 결혼 전에 일한 경험이 없지만 결혼/육아 이후 일자리를 처음 가진 여성(양육 후 입직형, 23.5%), 마지막으로 전혀 일한 경험이 없는 여성(17.3%)이다. 각 생애유형의 상대적 구성은 결혼코호트에 따라 유의한 차이가 존재하였다 최근의 결혼코호트일수록 M형(잠재 M형 포함)이 지배적인 생애 유형이 되고 있다. 양육 후 처음 일을 하거나, 전혀 일한 경험이 없는 기혼여성의 비율은 최근 결혼코호트일수록 작아지고 있다. 또한 1990년 이후 결혼한 여성에서 일가족 중복형의 생애 패턴이 증가하는 경향이 확인된다. 동일 코호트 내에서 살펴보면, 생애 유형은 여성의 교육수준 성장기 일하는 여성의 역할 모델의 존재(어머니의 취업), 남편과 여성의 성역할태도, 가구의 주 생업에 따라 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 마지막으로 여성의 생애유형별 일과 가족역할의 의미를 조망하고 있다.

Searching for the Cause of the Gender Gap in Employment Losses during the COVID-19 Crisis

  • The recession caused by the COVID-19 crisis has features that could disproportionately harm female employment. Risk of infection and social distancing measures may have disrupted jobs in face-to-face industries, which have traditionally hired more women than men. School closures and a consequent increase in childcare and homeschooling demands may have discouraged labor market participation by working mothers. Using the Economically Active Population Survey, I examine how female employment was affected by each factor. I find that the gender gap in the Employment to Non-participation (E to N) transition rates is twice as large as the gap in the Employment to Unemployment (E to U) transition rates. Women's overrepresentation in the face-to-face industries accounts for most of the gap in the E to U transition but only a third of the gap in the E to N transition. The rise in non-participation is especially pronounced among married women aged 39-44, the group most likely to have elementary-school-age children.

판매직 주부의 공평성인지도 ${\cdot}$ 역할스트레스 및 생활만족도에 관한 연구 (Perceived Equity, Role Stress and Life Satisfaction of Married Working-Mother Salesclerks)

  • The main purpose of the research was to prove, in a practical sense, the relationship among perceived equity, role stress and life satisfaction of employed wives working in sales departments. The subjects were employed wives working in sales departments who have at least one child and a spouse, living in Seoul and the Metropolitan area. The final data analysis used 487 out of 668 questionnaires. Statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS/PC WIN which included frequencies, mean, percentages, Pearson's correlation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study were as follows: 1) As their education level was low, the education level of their spouse was high, the communication level between couples was high, and the self-oriented perfectionism was low, their perceived emotional relationship was equal. As they were old, the communication level between couples was high, and the self-oriented perfectionism was low, their perceived position in sharing household chores was equal. On the other hand, as they were younger, the education level of their spouse was high, the reason for getting a job lay in supporting the family, and overtime hours worked, there was a higher level of role stress. 2) The influential variables which affect the life satisfaction, in order of importance, were communication level between couples, mother's role stress, age, non-financial reason of getting a job, and sharing household works. For relative contribution degree about life satisfaction, psychological variables among independent variables were revealed as the most influential ones. Thus, efficient communication between couples affected the life satisfaction to a great degree. Furthermore, the study proved that not only role stress variables but also perceived equity variables contributed to the life satisfaction.

여성의 직장유형이 둘째 자녀 출산에 미치는 영향 (Women's Workplace Type Impact on Second Birth)

  • 대한민국은 농촌사회에서 산업사회로 전환되는 과정에서 상대적으로 여성들의 경제적 참여기회가 증가 하였다. 그로 인해 여성들의 결혼연령이 높아지고 기혼여성들의 경제적 기회비용 및 경제활동 참여가 저 출산으로 이어진다는 인식이 대두 되었다. 특히 직장유형이 출산율에 영향을 주는 것인지에 대한 실증분석이 필요한 시점이다. 이를 위해 2003~2018년 노동 패널데이터를 활용하여 직장유형이 출산에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석 하였는데 결과는 다음과 같다. 미 취업한 여성과 민간부문에서 종사하는 여성을 비교했을 때 통계적으로 유의한 음(-)의 관계가 도출 되었다. 그러나 미 취업한 여성과 공공부문에서 종사하는 여성을 비교했을 때는 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다.

여성의 다중역할에 따른 건강 차이 (Multiple Roles and Health among Korean Women)

  • Objectives : Most studies about multiple roles and women's health suggested that combining with paid job, being married and having children was more likely to improve health status than in case of single or traditional roles. We investigated whether there was better health outcome in multiple roles among Korean women coinciding with previous studies of other nations. Methods : Data were from the 2005 Korea National Health & Nutritional Examination Survey, a subsample of women aged 25-59 years (N=2,943). Health status was assessed for self-rated poor health, perceived stress and depression, respectively based on one questionnaire item. The age-standardized prevalence of all health outcomes were calculated by role categories and socioeconomic status. Multiple logistic regression was used to assess the association of self rated health, perceived stress, and depression with multiple roles adjusted for age, education, household income, number of children and age of children. Results : Having multiple roles with working role was not associated with better health and psychological wellbeing. Compared to those with traditional roles, employed women more frequently experienced perceived stress, with marital and/or parental roles. Non-working single mothers suffered depression more often than women with traditional roles or other role occupancy. Socioeconomic status indicators were potent independent correlates of self-rated health and perceived stress. Conclusions : Employment of women with other roles did not confer additional health benefit to traditional family responsibility. Juggling of work and family responsibility appeared more stressful than traditional unemployed parental and marital role in Korean women.

서울시민의 이동행동에 있어서의 젠더차이 : 생활시간조사자료를 중심으로 (The Gender Differences of Travel Behavior in the Seoul Metropolitan City: Analysis of Time Use Survey)

  • 본 글은 여성과 남성의 이동행동 차이 뿐 아니라 여성의 가족 내에서의 성역할과 경제활동 배경에 따라 여성집단 내부에서 이동행동에 어떠한 차이가 있는지 살펴보고, 이러한 차이가 그들의 사회활동참여나 활동공간 등에 대해 가지는 함의를 살펴보고자 하였다. 분석 자료는 통계청의 2004년 "생활시간조사" 원자료(raw data)로 시간량 데이터와 시간대 데이터를 이용하였으며 분석대상은 20세 이상 59세 이하의 서울시민이다. 분석결과 여성의 이동행동 특성은 남녀의 차이가 나타나는 부분도 있고, 또한 여성집단 내에서 혼인지위, 미취학아동의 유무, 경제활동상태, 소득수준 등과 관련하여 성별 차이보다도 더 큰 여성집단 내부의 차이를 가지는 경우도 있었다. 즉 여성의 이동시간량은 남성보다 적고, 남성은 유급노동관련 이동시간량이 그리고 여성은 무급노동관련 이동시간량이 많으며, 여성은 남성보다도 낮 시간대에 주로 이동행동이 발생하고 버스 지하철, 보도 등 대중교통수단을 이용한 이동시간량과 이동행위자비율이 높았다. 반면 미혼여성은 남성보다도 이동시간량이 많고, 경제활동을 하거나 개인소득수준이 높은 여성들은 시간대별 이동행위자비율, 이동목적별 이동시간량 등에서 남성과 비슷한 이동행동 특성을 보여 혼인경험자나 미취학자녀가 있어 성역할 부담이 부과되는 지위에 있는 여성과 많은 차이를 가지고 있었다.

중소규모 산업장 여성근로자들의 작업환경에 대한 인식이 직무만족에 미치는 영향 (The Affecting for Awareness of Exposure at Hazardous Materials on the Working Satisfaction of Female Workers in the Small Scale Industry)

  • 458 female workers working in the small and medium scaled industries in Inchon area were surveyed to study their general characteristics, health behavior, working and environmental conditions, awareness of exposure at hazardous materials, current health status, and degree of working satisfaction. Self-administered questionnaire was distributed to the female workers with the explanation by trained interviewer on the purpose of survey and the method how to answer. The results were as follows : (1) 75.5% of the respondents are living with their families and others are living in domitary or rent house for herself. Age distribution ranges from teenagers to warren in their forties. In marital status 69.0% of workers are single and 31.0% of them have ever married. 69.4% of workers are high school graduate. The size of factory is 48.3% with less than 300 workers, 42.1% with 300~500 workers. (2) Most of the workers(86.7%) are full time workers, 52% of the respondents have working experiences in other factories. More than 65% have fewer than 5 years working experience. (3) The awareness of exposure at noise was 33% of respondents, it was significantly different by skilled status. The awareness of exposure at dust, other hazardous material was each 13.3%, 12.4% of respondents. (4) 26% of them are unsatisfied with their working cognitions and 43.7% of them are unsatisfied with their welfare in occupational system unsatisfactory rate of promotion is higher in the unmarried workers(45.6%), skilled workers(47.2%), full time workers(47.4%), long term workers(50%), and awareness group of exposure hazardous material(51.3%), compared to married women workers, unskilled workers, part-time workers, short term workers and unawareness group of exposure at hazardous materials. (5) The index of working satisfaction is rated on a scale of 1 to 10 with the higher point indicating higher satisfaction. Among the selected variables, marital status, working status, the awareness of exposure at hazardous materials, were statistically significant with the index of working satisfaction. (6) By multiple regression analysis showed that the determinant factors of index of working condition were health index, the awareness of exposure at dust, the awareness of exposure other hazardous materials, marital status and working period. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between the awareness of exposure at hazardous material the index of working satisfaction. Therefore if the workers are less exposed to the hazardous material and are educated properly they will be more satisfied with their work thus improving their health and productivity. Finally, with the result of this study, there is a great need for the development of a health promotion program and a welfare policy for small-scale factories.

여성 사무직 근로자의 혈중 비타민 D 결핍에 영향을 미치는 위험요인 (Risk Factors Associated with Vitamin D Deficiency among Women Office Workers)

  • Purpose: Vitamin D is a fundamental element for bone metabolism. Recently vitamin D deficiency has been implicated in various diseases such as a cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancers. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with serum vitamin D deficiency among women office workers. Methods: We selected 369 women office workers using the secondary data of the 5th National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey 2010-2012. Data was analyzed by logistic regression of complex sampling design. Results: Women office workers with vitamin D deficiency, defined serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration < 10ng/mL, were 12.5%. The risk factors for vitamin D deficiency were 20s aged group, married state and more than 40 working hours a week. The risk of vitamin D deficiency was decreased in those with alcohol drinking 1 to 4 times a month. The education level, income, region, smoking, physical activity and sun exposure time did not affect the risk of vitamin D deficiency significantly. Conclusion: Development of vitamin D deficiency prevention educational programs are required for women office workers who more than 40 hours a week in 20s. It should be considered health education including sun exposure duration and behavior.

기혼취업여성의 양육스트레스에 영향을 미치는 변인에 관한 연구 (The Factors Related to Parenting Stress of Married Working Women)

  • This study examined the factors that are related to employed mothers' parenting stress. The study specifically investigated the relative effect sizes of the mother's personality, child's temperament and familial factors as the predictors. The subjects were employed mothers with school-aged children living in the Gyeonggi-do area. The findings were as follows. First, the parenting stress of working mothers was relatively high. Second, the mother's personality predicted parenting stress in a greater magnitude compared to the effect sizes of the child's temperament, family support, marriage satisfaction, or demographic factors. Among mothers' personality factors, neuroticism had the greatest effect followed by cheerfulness, flexibility, consciousness, openness, and extraversion.
