  • Activation of conventional market in small town is important in the reinvigoration of local economy as an economical center. The revitalization of local economy is closely related to the fosterage of conventional market. So the local government is trying to activate the market. However, the projects for the activation of conventional market are mostly centered on the modernization of facilities which is carried out at urban districts. Those facilities-centered plans, being carried out at urban district, lack the consideration of the peculiarities of rural districts and the regional conditions of the conventional market in small towns. And some projects for the modernization of facilities produce negative results. Especially the conventional market in small town shows a spatial structure of a five-day market and a market place and it was influenced by the spatial relationship between the permanent market and periodic market. So analyses on the spatial lay-out and form, store facilities, spatial distribution of types of business, spatial utilization on market place are needed to improve the physical environment of the conventional market. In this context, the study analyzed systematically the space of an old and lagged Hongseong conventional market located in central district of a small town. And It is expected that the results use as a basic data to establish effective space improvement plan for conventional market in small town.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the causal and precedence relationships between the housing sub-market and the results of a consumer sentiment survey about the housing market. This study investigates the relationships between the survey results and an apartment deal price index by size and bidding price rate in apartment auctions by extending research related to consumer sentiment surveys. We surveyed the Seoul Metropolitan Area and analyzed the results using a unit root test, cointegration test, Granger causality test, and cross-correlation test. It was confirmed that causality exists between the survey results and apartment deal price index by size and bidding price rate, and it was also confirmed that there are correlation and precedence relationships between them.

  • Objective : To build a basis of a research strategy for development of Korean ginseng as a global competitive medical product in the world market by Korean Oriental medicine group. Methods : Survey of all literature or analysis reports about market patterns related to ginseng or ginseng products in Korea and in other countries. Results : Korean ginseng and it products have rapidly decreased in share of the world market since the 1980s, with Korean ginseng occupying just 3% of the Hong Kong ginseng market in 2005. While Korean ginseng has been satisfied with consumption within the large Korean market itself, it now has only 1% of world market share. Conclusion : A systematic strategy is needed to strengthen global competitiveness of Korean ginseng based upon development of novel customer-tailored ginseng products. In addition, experience and science-based research in the Oriental medicine field should be involved in the process.

  • This study compares fashion leaders and market mavens by examining the demographic characteristics of fashion leaders and market mavens and how they differ in their evaluation of store and shopping related attributes. Data originated from a national consumer mail survey in the United States. The survey included items measuring market mavenism, fashion leadership, store evaluative attributes, and personal information. Responses from 380 consumers were used for data analysis. Female consumers were found to be more active in word-of-mouth activities in general. Young consumers were more inclined to express fashion leadership while age was not related to market mavenism. A lower level of education increased tendencies for both market mavenism and fashion leadership. In terms of store evaluative criteria, the majority of items in the survey were more important as fashion leadership and market mavenism tendencies increased. Interestingly, the need for knowledgeable or helpful salespeople did not increase with fashion leadership tendencies. Also, fashion leaders were interested in easy return of merchandise and were likely to spend more time in the stores. This study sheds important light on how fashion leadership differ compared to market mavenism. By simultaneously examining fashion leadership and market mavenism using a strong sample base, this study provides sound evidence of how consumers interested in fashion may have differing needs for shopping.

  • This study examines market acceptance for DMB service, one of the touted new business models in Korea's next-generation mobile communications service market, using adoption end diffusion of innovation as the theoretical framework. Market acceptance for DMB service was assessed by predicting the demand for the service using the Bass model, and the demand variability over time was then analyzed by integrating the innovation adoption model proposed by Rogers (2003). In our estimation of the Bass model, we derived the coefficient of innovation and coefficient of imitation, using actual diffusion data from the mobile telephone service market. The maximum number of subscribers was estimated based on the result of a survey on satellite DMB service. Furthermore, to test the difference in diffusion pattern between mobile phone service and satellite DMB service, we reorganized the demand data along the diffusion timeline according to Rogers' innovation adoption model, using the responses by survey subjects concerning their respective projected time of adoption. The comparison of the two demand prediction models revealed that diffusion for both took place forming a classical S-curve. Concerning variability in demand for DMB service, our findings, much in agreement with Rogers' view, indicated that demand was highly variable over time and depending on the adopter group. In distinguishing adopters into different groups by time of adoption of innovation, we found that income and lifestyle (opinion leadership, novelty seeking tendency and independent decision-making) were variables with measurable impact. Among the managerial variables, price of reception device, contents type, subscription fees were the variables resulting in statistically significant differences. This study, as an attempt to measure the market acceptance for satellite DMB service, a leading next-generation mobile communications service product, stands out from related studies in that it estimates the nature and level of acceptance for specific customer categories, using theories of innovation adoption and diffusion and based on the result of a survey conducted through one-to-one interviews. The authors of this paper believe that the theoretical framework elaborated in this study and its findings can be fruitfully reused in future attempts to predict demand for new mobile communications service products.
