  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the factors associated with gingival bleeding(GB) by tooth brushing in college students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 232 college students in Daegu Health College from March to June, 2014. Data were analyzed for frequency, chi square test, and logistic regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. The study was a cross sectional study. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(gender, age, marital status, and smoking), frequency and duration of tooth brushing, scaling experience, and physical health status. Self-reporting hemorrhage was reported by yes or no. Frequency of tooth brushing was documented as the number of behavior. Above 4 times of tooth brushing was defined as 4. Duration of tooth brushing was documented as minute. Above 4 minutes, it was recorded as 4. In physical health status, 1 is feeling weak and 4 is feeling very healthy. Cronbach alpha was 0.82 in the study. Results: There were significant relationships between gingival bleeding and age(p<0.05), subjective health(p<0.01), tooth brushing frequency(p<0.05) and duration(p<0.05) by chi square test. Logistic regression analysis showed that the age(p<0.05), subjective health(p<0.01), tooth brushing frequency(p<0.05) and duration(p<0.05) were associated with gingival bleeding. Prevalence of gingival bleeding in 20 years was 0.62(odds ratio 1.85, 95% CI 1.00~3.43) and it was higher than that in 10 years. Prevalence of gingival bleeding in good health group was -1.38 and it was lower than that in poor health group. Conclusions: The factors associated with gingival bleeding were age, subjective health, and tooth brushing frequency and time.

  • This study aims to investigate the employment duration and the probability of quitting the job at first return-to-work of injured workers. This study collected data with structured questionnaires and finally included 515 injured workers. The Kaplan-Meier method is used for describing the employment duration, and the Cox regression is used to identify significant factors on the probability of quitting the job at first return-to-work. The results show that among the all respondents, the 5.65% quitted the job within 1 month, 14.14% within 3 months, 23.7% within 6 months, and 32.81% within 1 years. The Cox regression results show that the probability of quitting the job at first return-to-work is significantly affected by age, marital status, education, employment period when happened the accident, job retention, income change, and classification of diseases. As a result, some implication and policies are suggested for the return-to-work and employment durability of injured workers.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to find gender distinctions in terms of the sociology of the population; to determine work-related factors; to analyze gender differences in daily living, work, sports, and art performances; and to identify gender-related factors that limited performance of daily living and work activities. Methods: A questionnaire was designed that included disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (DASH), accident history, disease history, work duration at current workplace, marital status, job satisfaction, job autonomy, and physical demands of the job. Out of 1,853 workers surveyed, 1,173 questionnaires (63.3%; 987 males, 186 females) included responses to DASH disability and DASH optional work and were judged acceptable for analysis. Results: Upper extremity functional limitation during work and daily living was higher for females than males. The limitations for males increased according to their household work time, accident history, work duration, job satisfaction, physical demand, and job autonomy. Meanwhile, female workers' upper extremity discomfort was influenced by their disease history, job satisfaction, and physical demands. In addition, the size of the company affected male workers' upper extremity function, while marriage and hobbies influenced that of female workers. Conclusion: This study addressed sociodemographic factors and work-related factors that affect each gender's upper extremity function during daily living and working activities. Each factor had a different influence. Further studies are needed to identify the effect that role changes, not being influenced by risks at work, have on musculoskeletal disorders.

Method: Data were collected using a questionnaire for 271 nurses working at 5 general hospitals in Daegu and Kyung-book province from Sep. 1, to Sep. 30, 2003. The questionnaire consists of 54 items, general characteristics(10) and nurse's suffering experience(44). All surveys were sorted and studied by frequency analysis, mean score, standard deviation, range, independent t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Multiple regression. Result: The findings of this survey indicate 1) The degree of suffering experienced by nurses caring for terminal cancer patients was 2.96; 2) Demographic variables affecting the degree of nurses' suffering experience were age(F=5.62, p=.000), marital status(F=20.53, p=.000), religion(F=5.44, p=.020), career of clinical experience(F=6.96, p=.000), and feelings of end-life care(F=3.11, p=.016); 3) There were slight correlation between the subitem of nurse's suffering experience and general characteristics of subjects. For 'expanding self consciousness', age, career duration, and position; for 'forming empathy with family', age and career duration ; for 'spiritual sublimation', age, and career duration were affected variables. 4) As a result of the multiple regression analysis for predictable variables affecting nurses' suffering, it was found that 'career of clinical experience' was most significant(F=23.100, p=.000). The explanatory power of this regression formula was 17.6%. Conclusion: This study can provide the basic data useful towards improvement of nursing services for terminal cancer patients and the health of the nurse.
