The accident of Slip damage which arose between propeller boss and shaft will be a great problem of safety and economical due to the loss of propulsion power. In this study, the cause of slip damage on the large vessel was surveyed by meeting with officers of troubled ship, checking of drawings on the new built and surveyor report of adjuster company. Additionally, the material of propeller had been compression tested for confirming the impact strength. The result of this studies would be promote the design strength for contact force for keyless propeller, and futhermore reduce the accident of propeller slip between propeller boss and shaft.

The fishing boat propulsion system employing the modified stern shape and the tunnel to protect a propeller is developed to increase the cruise speed and reduce he problem resulting from the open propeller accidentally catching the waste net and able on the sea. Using 3 different tunnel types, the model test was performed in the circular water channel and the panel method based on the potential theory is applied to analyze the open water performance of the propeller. In the numerical analysis using he potential-based panel method, it calculates the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the tunnel and evaluates the effect of the tunnel geometry. From the numerical and experimental results differing tunnel geometries, the propulsion efficiency is increased by the larger diameter of the inlet than the outlet of the tunnel and the smaller gap between the propeller tip and the tunnel internal surface. These results provide the information of the propeller system with the tunnel and the hydrodynamic interaction between the propeller and the tunnel.
It has been highly demanded to improve the accuracy of CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) methods for the assessment of the hydrodynamic performance of marine propellers in cavitating and non-cavitating flows. This paper presents a validation study on the numerical simulation of the tip vortex flow of a non-cavitating marine propeller SVA VP1304. The calculations are carried out by using the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) approach, where the Reynolds Stress Model(RSM) is used for turbulence closure. The present paper contains a grid dependence test for the propeller open water simulations and a special emphasis is placed on conducting a local grid adaptation on the blade tip and in the tip vortex to reasonably reproduce the velocity and the pressure in the tip vortex flow field. The numerical results are compared with the experimental validation data, which are published in the second International Symposium on Marine Propulsors 2011(SMP'11). The present numerical results show a reasonable agreement with the experiments.

A propeller has been considered as one of the most critical elements in propelling ships. However, only a little research on the marine propeller has been carried out. Furthermore, fractures of the propeller have been frequently caused by fatigue, but only tensile strength, yield strength and elongation are discussed in Register of Shipping. For the above reasons, we have evaluated strength properties of A1BC3 and HBsC1, both which have been used for the marine propeller by using air jet chisel and then, presented a method of improving the strength.
In this study, the effects of inclined shaft angle on the hydro-acoustic performance of cavitating marine propellers are investigated by a numerical method developed before and Brown's empirical formula. The cavitating blades are represented by source and vortex elements. The cavity characteristics of the blades such as cavitation form, cavity volume, cavity length etc., are computed at a given cavitation number and at a set advance coefficient. A lifting surface method is applied for these calculations. The numerical lifting surface method is validated with experimental results of DTMB 4119 model benchmark propeller. After calculation of hydrodynamic characteristics of the cavitating propeller, noise spectrum and overall sound pressure level (OASPL) are computed by Brown's equation. This empirical equation is also validated with another numerical results found in the literature. The effects of inclined shaft angle on thrust coefficient, torque coefficient, efficiency and OASPL values are examined by a parametric study. By modifying the inclination angles of propeller, the thrust, torque, efficiency and OASPL are computed and compared with each other. The influence of the inclined shaft angle on cavity patterns on the blades are also discussed.
The fuel consumption of marine diesel engines holds paramount importance in contemporary maritime transportation and shapes energy efficiency strategies of ocean-going vessels. Nonetheless, a noticeable gap in knowledge prevails concerning the influence of ship hull conditions and propeller roughness on fuel consumption. This study bridges this gap by utilizing artificial intelligence techniques in Matlab, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to comprehensively investigate these factors. We propose a time-series prediction model that was built on numerical simulations and aimed at forecasting ship hull and propeller conditions. The model's accuracy was validated through a meticulous comparison of predictions with actual ship-hull and propeller conditions. Furthermore, we executed a comparative analysis juxtaposing predictive outcomes with navigational environmental factors encompassing wind speed, wave height, and ship loading conditions by the fuzzy clustering method. This research's significance lies in its pivotal role as a foundation for fostering a more intricate understanding of energy consumption within the realm of maritime transport.
The purpose of this paper is to develop the CFD code to consider the viscous flow features of the marine propeller. The flow of the marine propeller has been numerically analyzed by using three dimensional viscous incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The model used in this study is Screw B with 4 blades whose pitch ratio is 1 in Ka-4-55 screw series. The result of the analysis was compared with panel method.

Underwater radiated noises from marine vehicles are mostly due to the propulsion systems. Recently, the propeller noise problems are becoming crucial issues in terms of habitability of passenger ships. Especially in military area, propeller noise is directly related to the survivability of submarines and warships, and thus propeller noise analysis and reductions are very important. Generally, propeller noise can be classified into non-cavitating noise and cavitating noise which is dominant. In this paper the methodology of propeller noise analysis is announced and new approach to consider scattering effect is proposed. Unsteady blade surface pressure and sheet cavity volume analyzed with potential based panel method are used as noise source.

Recently to achieve the anti-corrossive effect in propeller shafts the coating technique with suit-able coating materials is available instead of bronze-sleeved shafts. In this case the coating mate-rials in service must not be delaminated from the shaft and the crack must not be originated. Thus the various performance and security test for coating materials of propeller shaft must be carried out under the real conditions or more severe circumstance. The most important factors effecting on the funtion of coating materials in propeller shaft are the strain and the environment of sea water. In this paper therefore the maximum possible strain which can be occured in real propeller shaft was calculated based on IACA standard classification rule in order to give the proper level of strain to the test samples in performance test of propeller shaft coating materials.
