  • This study is to integratedly examine coastal management policy and marine tourism development project for Korean coasts, especially for the South Sea of high development pressure, presenting sustainable tourism development policies for the future. To do so, it is examined central government-level coastal development projects set up by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Ministry cf Construction and Transportation, setting the direction of south coastal management and tourism development at a level of national territory planning. The problems of coastal management first and then the problems of the South Coast Tourism Belt Project are analyzed in order to present political and administrative alternatives. To overcome such problems and make Korea a marine tourism base in East Asia, there is a need for re-recognition of the value of the project and its continuous push through cooperation between central and local governments. Also, under the presupposition of consensus building among local people and the sustainable development of environments, there should be are-recognition that the future cf Korean marine tourism in the 21st-century and the success of an inverted $\pi-axis$ national development depend on the South coastal Tourism Belt Development Project.

  • Recently, there are severe tension between Korea and Japan around Dokdo area. Because the marine resources near Dokdo are much plentiful. Especially, development of deep sea water and natural gas are hopeful in this area. In order to preoccupy a development plan of marine resources, many scientific investiment for ocean research are needed. We must have continuous concern about marine resources near Dokdo area.

  • A bioluminescent assay method for detecting the activity of phospholipase C(PLC; phosphatidyl choline cholinephosphohydrolase, EC 3.1.4.3) was developed using bioluminescent marine bacteria. Phospholipase C from Bacillus cereus and sn-1,2- dimyristoyl glycerol was further hydrolyzed with lipase from Candida ecylidracea. The hydrolyzed myristic acid was quantified using a dark mutant of Vibrio harveyi (designated as M-17). The in vivo light intensity of which was stimulated specifically up to one thousand fold in the presence of myristic acid. The rates of the hdrolysis of the DMPC substrate by the phospholipase measured by the luminescence method were linear with time and the were estalished to detect as little as 0.1 mUnit of phospholipase C and 5 nM of myristic acid production.

  • Three polyene macrolide antibiotics including two new compounds were isolated from the culture mycelia of a Streptomyces species. The structures of these metabollites were determined as elizabethin, a previously reported 28-membered macrolide and two analohs, using combined spectroscopic methods. These compounds exhibited antifungal activity and cytotoxicity against a juman leukemia cell.

  • Wondonins A and B, aromatic alkaloids of an unprecedented skeletal class have been isolated form and association of the sponges Poecillastra wondoensis and Jaspis sp. In addition, four novel bromotyrosine-derived metabolites, psammaplins $A_1$ and $A_2$, aplysinellins A and B, have been isolated from the tropical sponge Aplysinella rhax. The structures of these compounds have been determined on the basis of combined chemical and spectral analyses. The new compounds exhibited significant cytotoxicity and antiangiogenic activity as well as inhibitory activities against farnesyl protein transferase and leucine aminopeptidase. In addition to these compounds, several bioactive metabolites have been isolated from sponges of Korean and tropical waters.
