DeepLabV3+ 모델을 이용한 PlanetScope 영상의 해상 유출유 탐지 (Detection of Marine Oil Spills from PlanetScope Images Using DeepLabV3+ Model)

  • 유출유는 해양 생태계에 큰 위협이 되므로 피해 최소화를 위해 신속한 현황정보파악이 필요하다. 위성원격탐사는 항공기에 비해 광역적 모니터링이 가능하기 때문에 시공간적 범위에서 장점을 가진다. 최근에는 딥러닝 영상인식 기술의 발전으로 인해 딥러닝을 활용한 유출유 탐지의 필요성이 대두되고 있으나, 기존의 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) 영상 위주의 유출유 탐지와는 달리 고해상도 광학영상에 딥러닝 기법을 적용하는 경우는 많지 않았다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 PlanetScope 위성의 광학영상을 활용하여 유출유 레이블을 제작하고, 이를 기반으로 DeepLabV3+모델을 활용하여 유출유 탐지 모델을 구축하였으며, 암맹평가에서 정확도 0.885, 정밀도 0.888, 재현율 0.886, F1점수 0.883, 평균 교집합 대 합집합 비율(Mean Intersection over Union, mIOU) 0.793 등의 상당히 높은 정확도를 나타냈다.

한반도 주변 해양 지오이드 (Marine Geoid around Korean Peninsula)

  • 한반도와 동해를 포함하는 지역적인 지오이드를 세밀화하는 과정을 설명하고, 계산 결과를 제시하였다. 지오이드의 높이와 해수면의 높이의 비교와 최종적인 세밀화의 결과를 해석하고 제시하였다. 세밀화된 지역적인 해양 지오이드는 이전에 보고된 것과 비교하여 더 나은 해상도를 가지며 해저수심과의 상관성을 갖는다. 산정된 지오이드의 일반적인 패턴은 기존의 연구와 잘 일치하며, 동해에서의 세밀화된 해양 지오이드와 수심과의 상관관계는 (1) $117^{\circ}E{\sim}142.5^{\circ}E/24^{\circ}N{\sim}52^{\circ}N$의 영역에서는 0.44, (2) $127^{\circ}E{\sim}142.5^{\circ}E/32^{\circ}N{\sim}50^{\circ}N$의 영역에서는 0.47이다.

Electric power consumption predictive modeling of an electric propulsion ship considering the marine environment

  • This study predicts the power consumption of an Electric Propulsion Ship (EPS) in marine environment. The EPS is driven by a propeller rotated by a propulsion motor, and the power consumption of the propeller changes by the marine environment. The propulsion motor consumes the highest percentage of the ships' total power. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the power consumption and determine the power generation capacity and the propeller capacity to design an efficient EPS. This study constructs a power estimation simulator for EPS by using a ship motion model including marine environment and an electric power consumption model. The usage factor that represents the relationship between power consumption and propulsion is applied to the simulator for power prediction. Four marine environment scenarios are set up and the power consumed by the propeller to maintain a constant ship speed according to the marine environment is predicted in each scenario.

Lignin fractionation from waste wood using organosolv treatment combined with membrane filtration

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of lignin fractionated from waste wood (WW) using a two-step process of ethanol organosolv pretreatment followed by ultrafiltration with membranes of different molecular weight cut-offs (1, 5 and 20 kDa). The different permeates obtained were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The analysis by FT-IR and NMR of these lignins showed that the lignin core was successfully separated from WW. TGA curves confirmed that the thermal properties of lignin fractionated by ultrafiltration were almost identical to each other. The results from GPC confirmed that fractionating of lignin was achieved by ultrafiltration. For the membrane fractionation process, values of molecular weight decreased as the cut-offs used to obtain the fractions became smaller. As a result, fractionating lignin by a two-step process allowed separating different fractions of lignin of different molecular weights yielded high purity without interference from existing pollutants in WW. The two-step process offers the possibility of using fractionated WW as an untapped source of lignin.

Corrosion evaluation of a newly developed high-strength steel in marine environments

  • This study aims to evaluate the corrosion behavior of a newly developed high-strength steel in marine environments. Metals used in seawater are easily deteriorated because of the presence of corrosive species such as chloride ions in it. Seawater causes much higher corrosion than fresh water. Thus, the corrosion of steel in marine environment has been recognized as a crucial problem in designing structures which cannot be cathodically protected. In this study, the corrosion resistance of a newly developed high-strength steel was evaluated. Four different specimens were tested to confirm the corrosion resistance. The exposure corrosion test was carried out by exposing the specimens to different marine environments such as atmospheric, tidal, splash, and submerged zones for two years. The specimens taken out from each location were cleaned ultrasonically and chemically prior to the evaluation of their corrosion resistance by the weight loss method. Finally, the pitting depth of the specimens was also measured to evaluate their pitting corrosion. The conditions used for the corrosion test were similar to the environmental conditions. The corrosion test results revealed that the corrosion rate and pitting corrosion of the newly developed high-strength steel was lower than that of the other carbon steels.

선박의 운항에 의해 배출되는 이산화탄소에 대한 포괄적 환경영향평가 (Comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment for CO2 Emitted from Sailing Ship)

  • 인간의 인위적 활동에 의한 이산화탄소의 배출 증가는 지구 온난화의 원인 중 하나로 알려져 있으며, 기상이변 등과 같이 지구 환경에 막대한 영향을 미치고 있다. 이로 인해 최근 들어 이산화탄소 배출량을 규제하기 위한 움직임이 활발해지고 있다. 또한 배출된 이산화탄소의 환경영향을 평가하기 위해, 일본 조선학회 산하의 IMPACT 위원회에서는 자연의 개발로 인한 환경영향과 경제성을 동시에 고려하여 평가할 수 있는 포괄적 지표인 Triple I (III)를 제안하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 III를 적용하여 컨테이너 선박의 운항 시 배출되는 이산화탄소로 인한 환경영향 및 경제성에 대해 생애주기 평가를 통해 정량적으로 비교하였다. 또한 선박의 규모 변화 및 운항 항로의 변경에 따른 포괄적 환경영향평가를 실시하였다. 결과적으로 선박의 운항에 의한 포괄적 환경영향평가는 선박의 규모보다는 이산화탄소 배출량과 밀접한 선박의 운항 항로에 보다 더 민감한 것으로 판단되었다.

신규 살조물질인 Thiazolidinedione 유도체 (TD53)의 해양생태계에 대한 급성독성평가 (Acute Toxicity Assessment of New Algicide, Thiazolidinedione Derivative (TD53) to Marine Ecosystem)

  • In order to perform an acute toxicity assessment of a new algicide, thiazolidinedione derivative (TD53) with enhanced solubility and lower toxicity to marine ecosystem, representative 3 organisms: plant plankton (Skeletonema costatum), animal plankton (Daphnia magna), fish (Paralichthys olivaceus) related in the food chain of marine ecosystem according to OECD standard methods were employed in the exposure experiment. The exposure assessment showed that $EC_50$ of S. costatum in 96-hour, $EC_50$ of D. magna in 48-hour and $LC_50$ of P. olivaceus in 72-hour for TD53 were $1.53\;{\mu}M$, $0.61\;{\mu}M$ and $2.14\;{\mu}M$ respectively. NOEC (No Observed Effect Concentration) and PNEC (Predicted No Effect Concentration) were calculated to be $0.25\;{\mu}M$ and 6.10 nM, respectively from $EC_50$ of most sensitive strain, D. magna. Comparing with the results of toxicity assessment previously performed by using Ulva pertusa Kjellman accepted as an ISO standard method, the values of PNEC showed 3.7 times lower toxicity in case of this study employing 3 organisms, indicating that if the organisms which are more representative and sensitive in marine ecosystem are further investigated, more accurately and validly predicted toxicity of TD53 could be applied in field.

한국에 입항한 선박 밸러스트 수에 존재하는 해양 부유생물 (Marine Plankton in Ballast Water of Ship Entering Korea)

  • Various marine plankton were observed in the ballast water of vessels entering Incheon and Busan harbors. The ballast water of which age ranged from 2 to 54 days originated from the coastal waters of New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and Pakistan, and from the Pacific Ocean. The total number of marine plankton taxa in 9 ballast tanks of different ships was 170: 90 phytoplankton, 24 protozoa and 56 zooplankton. The most diverse taxonomic groups were diatoms in phytoplankton, ciliates in protozoa and copepods in zooplankton. Classifying the specimens by size, above 50% of the number species of phytoplankton belonged to the size range between 50 and 150 Un. Protozoa and metazooplankton were found frequently in the size range between 50 and $120{\mu}m$ and 500 and $1,000{\mu}m$, respectively. The relationship between the species number and the age of ballast water was not significant. This is because of difference of filtration amounts derived from discordance of collecting samples. Among plankton observed in ballast water, some harmful algae and non-indigenous aquatic species were identified. Therefore, we need to investigate whether these species can inhabit in Korean coastal waters in further study.

Biosorption of Heavy Metal lons by Biomass of Marine Brown Algae in Cheju using Their Immobilization Techniques: Biosorption of Copper by Undaria pinnatifida

  • The biosorption performances of copper were investigated by the immobilized biomass of nonliving marine brown algae Undaria pinnatifida by each of the Ca-alginate method(Ca-ALG), Ba-alginate method(Ba-ALG), polyethylene glycol method(PEG), and carrageenan method (CARR). The copper removal performance increased but the copper uptake decreased as the biomass amount was increased. However, the copper uptake by the immobilized biomass increased with increasing initial copper concentration. Among the immobilization methods, the copper uptake decreased in the following sequence: Ca-ALG > Ba-ALG > PEG > CARR. The pattern of copper uptake by the immobilized biomass fitted the Langmuir isotherm better than the Freundlich isotherm. Desorption of deposited copper with 0.05 ~0.5M HCI, resulted in no changes of the copper uptake capacity of the immobilized biomass by the immobilization methods except for PEG, through five subsequent biosorption/desorption cycles. There was no damage to the immobilized biomass which retained its macroscopic appearance in repeated copper uptake/elution cycles.
