The Impact of Severe Weather and Climate Change on Lean Supply Chains

  • This study examines the impact of severe weather on lean supply chains. First, this paper reviewed the literature on the disruptions and damages that severe weather events cause on supply chain. Then, several recent examples of lean supply chain disruptions due to severe weather were discussed. The results of the study indicated that the frequency of weather related disasters is increasing and extreme weather events will increase potential risks to supply chains. First, building organizational resilience will help firms look beyond efficiency and profits in managing lean supply chains. Second, the concept of sole sourcing may need rethinking to maintain a supply chain that is lean and resilient. Third, organizations must plan ahead for supply chains in unpredictable weather. Fifth, communication is a key for anticipating and avoiding the impact of severe weather. This study proposes of a set of strategies, both theoretical and practical, that business firms should develop to effectively prevent and respond to severe weather related disruptions in lean supply chains.

  • Recently, plant construction industries are enjoying a favorable business climate centering around developing countries and oil producing countries rich in oil money. This paper proposes a methodology of implementing case-based reasoning(CBR) system for managing knowledge like lessons learned and various documents accumulated in performing power plant construction projects which are receiving a lot of order from foreign countries such as the Middle East, etc. Our methodology is consisted of 10 steps : user requirement gathering, information modeling, case modeling, case base design, similarity function design, user interface design, case base building, CBR module development, user interface implementation, integration test. Also, to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed methodology, the real CBR system is implemented for the plant business division of 'H' company which has international competitiveness in the field of plant construction industry. At present, the implemented CBR system is successfully utilizing as storing, sharing, and reusing knowledge which is accumulated in performing power plant construction projects in the target enterprise.

Development of a Web-based MDO Framework for Design and Analysis Integration

  • The rapid progress of the Internet and network is affecting the engineering design environment as well as business that use Web technologies to enhance their competitive edge. In product development, experts and organization who take part in the design process are often geographically dispersed. Furthermore, different divisions and business often have heterogeneous CAD/CAE systems and methods for expressing product data, and addressing this heterogeneity creates additional costs and increases development time. Managing distributed CAD, CAE and other related systems in an organic and holistic manner from the initial stages of product development is imperative to ensure successful collaboration in the design process. Therefore, this study suggests a Web-based MDO framework to support interfacing and collective use of design and analysis tools.

  • It compared subcontractor with contractor that are wages, the labor hour and labor condition of the work environment back are inferior relative. The subcontractor which basically the contract workers evade the dangerous process or the difficult work, the dirty work back what is called 3D the case which does to keep a business is many. so With life it will be threatened consequent health directly. The possibility where the subcontractor will be exposed to danger work came to be high. Together the reason of subcontract at managing the big business the case which becomes accomplished in objective, about lower the immediacy safety&health problem, subcontractor assigned workers is the actual condition only it could not be deteriorated more in public finance of the supply and enterprise and technical ability insufficiency. Consequently it prevents the subcontract which danger work is insensitive from this research and immediacy of the subcontract workers who is weak hygiene circumstance complement the plan it will be able to secure the immediacy safety&health subcontract workers, substantially to prepare in the hazard subcontract proprietor.

시스템적 관점에서 본 국방정보관리 구조 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Model of Defense Information Resource Management Structure from the Viewpoint of System's Approach)

  • This paper is to aimed to design a model of Korea defense information resource management structure from the viewpoint of system's approach, especially focusing on planning/programming procedures, organizational structure and business process re-engineering. The author analyzed current projects and plans on the field of Korea defense information systems, for finding what kinds of problems and why the problems occurred. The author concluded that many problems came from wrong approach of previous information resource management. Highlights of the proposed model are as follows: 1) Planning and programming structure must be considered as a major information resources and it must be managed as a key role through the whole system life cycle; 2) Organizational structure should be properly set up for managing and implementing information system projects; 3) Business process should also be analyzed thoroughly for re-engineering and innovating current inefficient organizational structure. These three additional viewpoints added to previous model for improving Korea defense information resource management.

  • Credit derivative is one kind of arrangement which allows one party to transfer, for a premium, the defined credit risk, computed with reference to a notional value, of a reference asset which may or may not owned by one or more other parties. Credit Default Swaps(CDS) have existed since the early 1990s, but its use has become increasingly popular over time. CDS is the fastest growing segment of the privately negotiated derivatives business as many firms depend on it to efficiently manage the financial market risks inherent in economic activities. The diversification function is especially important for active CDS market participants as banks. CDS banks can achieve their loan portfolio diversification which provides them with increased capacity to expand their lending.

역할 위임을 위한 ERBAC 설계 (Design of the ERBAC for Role Delegations)

  • 본 논문은 분산 서버 환경에서 다양한 업무를 운영하려고 할 때에 발생되는 보안상의 문제를 해결하기 위하여 RBAC(Role Based Access Control) 기법을 이용하여 분산 환경에서 운영 가능한 역할 위임을 위한 확장된 RBAC(Extended RBAC: ERBAC) 모형을 설계하였다. ERBAC는 기본적으로 Sandhu 등이 제안한 RBAC96 모형에 역할 위임부분을 추가하였다. 따라서, 역할을 위임하기 위해 ERBAC를 이용하면 사용자 수준의 역할 위임이 가능하여 업무의 중단 없이 영속성을 보장할 수 있다. 또한 분산 서버의 소스코드 수정 없이 구현 가능하고, 이식성이 높으며, 보안 관리가 단순하고 용이하다는 장점을 갖는다.

  • 기업은 비즈니스 프로세스 조정 또는 기업의 전략적 목적을 달성하기 위하여 정보 기술을 도입하고 있다. 또한 데이터 일관성에 대한 요구에 대해서는, 소프트웨어 개발에 적용되어 표준화 규율을 채택하여 이를 따르는 소프트웨어 개발 회사들이 늘어나고 있다. 이는 사용자들의 요구일 뿐만 아니라 이러한 규율을 채택함으로써 적은 비용으로 더 나은 결과물을 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 프로젝트 관리 도구를 사용한 체계적이고 일관적인 소프트웨어의 개발은 더욱 더 중요한 의미를 가지게 된다. 따라서, 본 논문은 효율적인 데이터 사전관리를 통하여 효과적으로 시스템 구축 지원을 할 수 있는 프로젝트 관리 기법에 대하여 기술한다.

Managing Business Quality Using a Performance Management System

  • Purpose - The study's aim is to assess performance quality delivered through a performance management system. The case study first measures the effectiveness of the present performance management system of Bhushan Steel Ltd. (BSL), and then secondarily analyzes the employee training impact. Research design, data, and methodology - A case study research approach using a survey was followed. The final sample size was 50, with a simple random sampling technique used. Primary data came from the company itself and the secondary from books, the Internet, journals, etc. Results - BSL employee appraisals are used for many developmental aspects such as competence in the present job, improvements, performance development, and training needs. The results indicate that individual performance can improve if employees perceive the system as more transparent (i.e., not so confidential). Conclusions - Overall, the BSL employees think that the company appraisal system is useful; however, to make it better the company has to improve many aspects including appraisals based on supervisor observations. The company could use a self-appraisal and a 360-appraisal approach to improve such assessments.
