A Study on the Effects of Internal Marketing Factors to Job Satisfaction, Emotional Labor, and Organizational Commitment of the Elderly Care Facility Employee (노인요양시설 종사자들의 내부마케팅 요인이 직무만족, 감정노동 및 조직몰입에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of internal marketing factors on organizational commitment and emotional labor in the elderly Care Worker. The data are collected through structured questionnaires. The Subjects of the final analysis is 191 persons working in the elderly care facilities in Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk provinces. Hypothesis testing of the research model is performed using AMOS 18.0. The main results of this study are as follows. Internal marketing factors influenced only internal communication and management support for job satisfaction, internal support for managerial support for emotional labor, internal communication and management support for organizational commitment. The results of this study suggest that in order to enhance the organizational commitment of long-term care workers, it is important not to strengthen internal marketing capacity but to increase job performance first, and secondly, to improve job performance, It is necessary to establish a more diversified research on the variables of service quality of job satisfaction and emotional labor.

  • Since the late 1980s, there have been radical changes in the managerial environment of Y University Medical Center(YUMC). Externally, the competition among hospitals has intensified due to the establishment of universal health insurance in 1939 and the entrance of large enterprises into the health care industry in the early 1990s. In addition, government regulation of medical institution is becoming stricter. Also, consumer groups have continued to demand the respect for patient rights and improvement of the quality of medical services. Internally, the financial condition of YUMC has worsened, not only because weak control and poor mediation in its large-scale structure have made its operation inefficient, but also because the rates of increase in the prices of goods and labor have grown faster than any increases in revenues. This study on materials management at YUMC presents a way for YUMC to reduce costs and increase its productivity, thereby overcoming its financial difficulties and dealing with external pressures. This study utilized the case studies of the materials purchasing and medical supply management in the United States and the comparative analysis of management to suggest short-term and long-term alternatives for innovation in YUMC. The goals of the short-term alternatives for innovation are to centralize the purchasing and supply departments and to simplify the decision-making processes. Through these attempts, it is estimated that YUMC's costs could be reduced by $600,000 per year. In the long-term, it is necessary to consider introducing a Supply Processing Distribution(SPD) system and setting up a centralized electronic system for supply and inventory management, although it is difficult to estimate the effect of cost-cutting because of the lack of analysis data. Thus, YUMC should thoroughly analyze initial investment costs and economical efficiency generated from long-term alternatives.

  • What is the national competitive power\ulcorner What are the determinants of national competitive advantage\ulcorner In order to find these problems, this study was initiated theoretically through the international trade theory and international managerial strategic theory. The flow of studies, in connection with these competitive advantage, come into industries competitive advantage from national competitive advantage. It is understood that the flow of studies is based on the change of paradigm about the international industry environment. Today, the international industry environment has been changed into vigorous situation with the new trade system such as globalization, UR negotiation, WTO system instead of GATT. Among these environments, all enterprises in any industries should try to enhance their benefit, income profits and develop their management strategy, because it is essential for them to keep and make a profit in order to be competitive against all other rivaling enterprises. According to researchers and the ages of history, the concept and determinants of competitive advantage have been dissimiliar as followings. 1) Theory of absolute advantage : Absolute Product Cost. 2) Theory of comparative advantage : Comparative Product Cost. 3) Theory of reciprocal demand : the Reciprocal Demand Structure. 4) Theory of Hechsher-Ohlin : Factor Endowment. 5) Paradox of Leontief : the Quality of Factor Endowment. 6) Theory of technological gap : R & D. 7) Technological gap model : The Technological Gap. 8) Theory of the product life cycle : Product Life Cycle. 9) Christensen's study : Firm's character & manager's character. 10) Monopolistic Advantage Theories : Monopolistic Advantage 11) Electic theory : Ownership, location and internalization specific advantages. 12) Theory of value chain : Cost advantage, Differentiation, Focus. However all these theories have the limit of illustration regarding today's competitive situation, the Porter's theory shows well the determinants of competitive advantage with competitive strategy.   • Backround: Working condition surveys are widely recognized as useful tools for monitoring the quality of working life and the improvements introduced by health and safety policy frameworks at the European and national level. The Italian Workers' Compensation Authority carried out a national survey (Insula) to investigate the employer's perceptions related to working conditions and their impact on health. Methods: The present study is based on the data collected from the Italian survey on health and safety at work (INSULA) conducted on a representative sample of the Italian workforce (n = 8,000). This focuses on the relationship between psychosocial risk factors and self-reported health using a set of logistic and linear regression models. Results: Working conditions such as managerial support, job satisfaction, and role act as protective factors on mental and physical health. On the contrary, workers' risk perceptions related to personal exposure to occupational safety and health risks, concern about health conditions, and work-related stress risk exposure determine a poorer state of health. Conclusions: This study highlights the link between working conditions and self-report health, and this aims to provide a contribution in the field of health at work. Findings show that working conditions must be object of specific preventive measures to improve the workers' health and well-being.

SWOT Analysis and Expert Assessment of the Effectiveness of the Introduction of Healthcare Information Systems in Polyclinics in Aktobe, Kazakhstan

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the organizational effectiveness of the introduction of a healthcare information system (electronic medical records and databases) in healthcare in Kazakhstan. Methods: The authors used a combination of 2 methods: expert assessment and strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis. SWOT analysis is a necessary element of research, constituting a mandatory preliminary stage both when drawing up strategic plans and for taking corrective measures in the future. The expert survey was conducted using 2 questionnaires. Results: The study involved 40 experts drawn from specialists in primary healthcare in Aktobe: 15 representatives of administrative and managerial personnel (chief doctors and their deputies, heads of medical statistics offices, organizational and methodological offices, and internal audit services) and 25 general practitioners. Conclusions: The following functional indicators of the medical and organizational effectiveness of the introduction of information systems in polyclinics were highlighted: first, improvement of administrative control, followed in descending order by registration and movement of medical documentation, statistical reporting and process results, and the cost of employees' working time. There has been no reduction in financial costs, namely in terms of the costs of copying, delivery of information in paper form, technical equipment, and paper.

FACTOR ANALYSIS ON CONTRACTOR COMPETITION STRATEGY: A HONG KONG STUDY

  • The development of construction industry has led to the increase in the number of criteria imposed by project clients for selecting contractors. For example, clients often request tenderers to satisfy various conditions such as tight programme, financial strength, managerial ability, relevant work experiences, technical strength, high workmanship standard, safety requirement, quality specification, and yet others. This trend has attracted research interests of devising various methods for helping project clients to assess contractors' bids. For example, in recent development, the Works Bureau of the Hong Kong Government has introduced two mechanisms in tender evaluation for various public work contracts, namely, the Marking Scheme effective from June 2002 and the Formula Approach effective from November 2002 [1], [2]. These approaches evaluate a contractor's tender by considering collectively its tender price and performance attributes, the latter including contractor experience, past performance, technical resources and technical content of his proposal. The tender with the highest combined price and performance score (CPPS) will be normally recommended for acceptance. It appears, however, that there is little existing research in helping contractors to identify a competition strategy that enables the contractor to offer his most competitive bid collectively taking into account his resource capacities and project client's multiple performance criteria. This paper examines the factors affecting contractor's competition strategy to compete for works in Hong Kong. The understanding about the factors will contribute to identifying effective competition strategy. The data used for the analysis were collected from Hong Kong construction industry. The research findings may provide valuable references for investigating effective competition strategies in other construction industries outside the region.

Comparison of Customer Satisfaction by Operation Types of Business Foodservice in Chungbuk Province (충북지역 사업체 급식소의 운영형태에 따른 고객 만족도 비교)

  • In this study, the current status of the business foodservice industry, evaluation of leftover food and customer satisfaction with foodservice at direct operation and consignment foodservice businesses in Chungbuk were examined. This study has managerial implications in terms of improving the quality and effectiveness of the business operation of the foodservice industry. The sample size of this study included 800 customers who use foodservices provided by 11 selected businesses including 6 direct operation and 5 consignment foodservice businesses. From these 800 customers, a total of 692 were used (direct operation foodservice (n=361) and consignment foodservice (n=331) businesses). The results were as follows; First, as for the main reasons for using the employee restaurants in types of direct operation and consignment foodservice business, 'the close location' had the high percentage. Approximately 41% of respondents were not satisfied with the foodservice in the employee restaurants. Second, leftover food from consignment foodservices was higher than that for direct operation foodservices. Third, there were significant differences in customer satisfaction with five areas of foodservice between the two types of food service businesses: food, sanitation, feeding environment, mealing process and information and service. Customer satisfaction in the direct operation foodservice was higher than that of the consignment foodservice. In terms of the satisfaction level of foodservices, mealing process was the highest, followed by sanitation, food, and information and service in the direct operation and consignment foodservice businesses. Overall, satisfaction with the business foodservice was affected by the customers' satisfaction in five areas of foodservices (e.g., food, sanitation, feeding environment, mealing process, information and service). Especially, 'food' and 'information and service' were important areas for determining overall customer satisfaction with foodservice. In addition, the overall satisfaction was negatively correlated with the quantity of leftover food in the direct operation and consignment foodservice business.

Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) in Practice: Variables for Theory and Implementation

  • Diversification of project delivery methods (PDM) under ever-changing construction business environment has significantly changed the role of project participants. Active efforts to effectively sharing the roles and responsibilities have been observed in the project management offices (PMOs) among owner/operator organizations as well as engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance (EPCM) firms. In order for being effective in a holistic way throughout the project life-cycle, a PMO needs to have 'adequate management skills' as well as 'essential technical capabilities' in cooperating with many different participants. One of the well-known examples of the PMO's tool to support these skills and capabilities is the effective 'work packaging (WP)' that serves as a common basis integrating all relevant information in a structured manner. In an attempt to enhance the construction productivity, the concept of 'advanced work packing (AWP)' has been introduced by Construction Industry Institute (CII). The AWP enables productivity to be improved by early planning of construction packages in the design phase "with the end in mind". The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate the 'variables' of advanced work packing (AWP) for life-cycle information integration. Firstly, an extended concept of advanced WP based on the CII AWP was defined in order to comprehend many different issues of business functions (e.g. cost, schedule, quality, etc.). A structured list of major components and variables of AWP were then identified and examined for practical viability with real-world examples. Strategic fits and managerial effectiveness were stressed throughout the analyses. Findings, implications and lessons learned are briefly discussed as well.

  • Although many research efforts have been conducted to address the effect of crew members' work skills (e.g., technical and planning skills) on work performance (e.g., work duration and quality) in construction projects, the relationship between skill and performance has generated a great deal of controversy in the field of management (Inkpen and Crossan 1995). This controversy can lead to under- or over-estimations of the overall project schedule, and can make it difficult for project managers to implement appropriate managerial policies for enhancing project performance. To address this issue, the following aspects need to be considered: (a) work performances are determined not only by individual-level work skill but also by the group-level work skill affected by work team members, each member's role, and any working behavior pattern; (b) work planning has significant effects on to what extent work skill enhances performance; and (c) different types of activities in construction require different types of work, skill, and team composition. This research, therefore, develops a system dynamics (SD) model to analyze the effects of both individual-and group-level (i.e., multi-level) skill on performances by utilizing the advantages of SD in capturing a feedback process and state changes, especially in human factors (e.g., attitude, ability, and behavior). The model incorporates: (a) a multi-level skill evolution and relevant behavior development mechanism within a work group; (b) the interaction among work planning, a crew's skill-learning, skill manifestation, and performances; and (c) the different work characteristics of each activity. This model can be utilized to implement appropriate work planning (e.g., work scope and work schedule) and crew management policies (e.g., work team composition and decision of each worker's role) with an awareness of crew's skill and work performance. Understanding the different characteristics of each activity can also support project managers in applying strategic work planning and crew management for a corresponding activity, which may enhance each activity's performance, as well as the overall project performance.

A Study on the Impact of COVID-19 and Patient-Related Social Stress on Healthcare Providers (의료서비스 제공자들의 코로나 및 환자 관련 사회적 스트레스의 영향력에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to confirm the effects of COVID-19 stress and patient-related social stress (unreasonable demand, aggression) on emotional exhaustion and patient-friendly orientation. In addition, it is to confirm the role of moderating variables in the relationship between the meaning of work of health care providers and patient-related stress caused by COVID-19 and emotional exhaustion. Data were collected through an online survey targeting health care service providers, and the final 219 copies were used for analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that corona stress is a factor that increases emotional burnout for health care providers. In the case of patient-related stress, it was confirmed that the patient's unreasonable demands increased emotional exhaustion, but aggression did not show statistically significant results. These research results can provide not only theoretical implications for health care service quality improvement, but also managerial implications for preparing plans for internal employee management.
