The interest of global competitiveness for national defense industry. This study analyzes the efficiency and productivity of 45 defense companies in each continent(North America, Europe and Northeast Asia, etc.), including Korea defense companies. It is analyzed by Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) and Malmquist Productivity Analysis over the period 2009-2013(5 years). The sample companies has been selected on the data avilability among the SIPRI Top 100 arms-producing and military services companies in the world(excluding China) in 2013. It extracts the relative efficiency and Malmquist productivity index of companies and each continent. Based on the DEA and MPI results, this paper estimates the global competitiveness and position of national defense industry and extracts implication. This study can be utilized for improvement of national defense industry and policy planning for cultivating the national defense companies.
This study measured the relative efficiency and productivity change of the Korean professional sport teams using DEA model and Malmquist Index for 2006-2009. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, in case of efficiency of CCR for 2006-2009, the number of efficient professional sport teams(CCR value is one) are two(Daejeon Citizen, Incheon United), three(Daejeon Citizen, Incheon United, FC Seoul), two(Daejeon Citizen, Incheon United), three(Kyungnam FC, Incheon United, FC Seoul) respectively. Second, Malmquist Index representing productivity change for 2006-2009 are 1.035, 0.9658, 1.5331 for Kyungnam FC, 1.2514, 0.8948, 0.9056 for Daegu FC, 1.1768, 0.8620, 0.9722 for Daejeon Citizen, 0.9368, 1.2609, 0.7714 for Incheon United, 1.0000, 1.0000, 1.0000 for FC Seoul, respectively. This result will be used by inefficient professional sport teams to improve inefficiency.
DEA converts multiple inputs and outputs of a decision unit into a single measure of performance, generally mentioned as relative efficiency. DEA has been applied successfully as a performance evaluation tool in many fields including manufacturing, banks, pharmacies, and hospitals to name a few. This paper applies the input-oriented DEA model, DEA/Window analysis, and Malmquist indices to the 9 regions in Korea to measure the efficiency and productivity. The empirical results show the following findings. First, the super efficiency indicate that efficiency of Group 2 is greater than Group 1. Second, Malmquist indices show that productivity of Group 2 is less than Group 1. Third, DEA/Window of Group2 show that Chungnam is most stable, while Jeonnam is most unstable.
By strengthening the market control and expanding the networks, providers of global logistics are expanding their service scope. Warehouses connects networks to between internal and external warehouses worldwide by using employees. The paper focuses on analyzing the efficiency of the top forty Global Logistics Providers. Therefore, the study classifies the factors which specify the efficiency of a total logistics industry and verified its firmness. Furthermore, the most recent published reports by Logistics Quarterly and Armstrong Association in 2012 was used in order to guarantee credibility of the study. For scope period for analysis, this study utilizes three years of materials, from 2007 to 2010. By applying the DEA Window model and Malmquist, the trend in efficiency and stableness was analyzed. Consequently, the main purpose of the paper is evaluating the efficiency. Also, analyzing its determinants and illustrating a long-term relationship between the annual turnover and the number of Industry Focus/Key Customers was used as output measures. In addition, the number of warehouses worldwide and employees worldwide, of Logistics Providers were used as input measures.

Until now, there have been few studies analyzing the efficiency of the Port of Mokpo and comparing it with other seaports in the country to identify the future direction of development for the port. In this paper, we use the data envelopment analysis (DEA) model in combination with the Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) to measure the efficiency and productivity of major ports in Korea, focusing on the Port of Mokpo. First, the study identifies which ports are efficient or inefficient based on technical or operational scale. Second, by using the MPI to overcome the shortfalls of the DEA model, the study can compare a port's performance across the years and evaluate the productivity of a port during the research period. Moreover, this study also applies fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering to classify port groups based on the size of their infrastructure and their efficiency scores. Finally, it is possible to find ways to enhance the efficiency and future direction of development of the Port of Mokpo.
In this study, a comparison has been made among the countries regarding recent ICT practices being performed based on the measures of relative efficiency and productivity growth that use multiple inputs and outputs. Efficiency measures a country's ICT performance relative to a benchmark at a given point of time and productivity measures a country's performance over a period of time. An output-oriented Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist Index has been used for comparison among 28 countries over the period 2008-2011 by incorporating 9 variables. The empirical findings disclose gross inefficiencies in national ICT practices, which show that there is room for enhancing output gains through increased efficiency in their operations. In addition, 13 countries have performed better than others in total factor productivity mainly because of their improvement in the underlying technological progress in ICT. For those technically inefficient countries, however, technical inefficiency may hamper the growth of total factor productivity of ICT practices.

The aim of this study was to analyze the productivity changes in government-funded research institutes for Economics & Humanities and Social Sciences. From Malmquist total factor productivity index analysis, the average productivity decreased 6.5% between 2006 and 2010. Further analysis showed that technical efficiency increased 4.7% annually while the technology change rate decreased 10.8% on average. Under pressure for innovation from the outside, research institutes responded to managerial efficiency improvement, which lead to increases in technical efficiency. On the other hand, for productivity improvement of government funded research institutes, they must pursue technological advances by securing an outstanding research workforce, expanding the R&D budget, and changing the R&D method. Each institute must perceive the cause of an individual institute's productivity change, and establish strategies for increasing productivity.

South Korea's economic growth was rapid, It was occasioned the concentration of resources in the metropolitan area. On the other hand, the province has a narrow economic base compared to the metropolitan area, and the underpopulation have been identified. Thus, The government announced the 'National balanced development law' in 2004 to reduce the problem of regional imbalances. The study collected data on 95 of relocated public institutions, and unlike previous studies, Mamquist analysis was used to compare the productivity before and after each public institutions' s relocation. The study focused on how the relocation of public institutions affected the productivity of public institutions through Malmquist Analysis. The results of the analysis show that productivity is declining after most public institutions have moved. And two independent samples T-test result, respective yearly average is nonsignificant.
This study analyzed the changes in the operational productivity of fourteen Korean container lines from 2019 to 2021 using MP I(Malmquist Productivity Index). The results indicated that the operational productivity of the shipping companies has increased by 38.4% annually, representing the TCI (Technical Change Index) increasing by 58.3% and the TECI (Technical Efficiency Change Index) decreasing by 12.6%. The increase in the operational productivity of the container shipping lines was mainly attributed to the high rise in ocean freight rates rather than an increase in fleet size or ship technical efficiency. However, the deep-sea shipping lines (i.e. HMM and SM lines) experienced increases in both the TCI and TECI, which was not the case for other shipping lines(i.e. Intra-Asian short-sea shipping lines). The intra-Asian short-sea shipping lines enhance their productivity due to the TCI but failed to appreciate the cost savings of the increased fleet effects due to the low SECI(Scale Efficiency Change Index) values.
The rapid melting of Arctic sea ice has increased interest in the Northern Sea Route (NSR) as a viable alternative trade route between Europe and Asia. While extensive research has examined its competitiveness in terms of technical feasibility, safety, profitability, and environmental impact, the topic of the NSR ports remains relatively underrepresented in the literature. Hence, this study aims to contribute to the existing research by assessing the efficiency of 17 NSR ports to gain insights into their operations and identify areas for improvement using models of Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA). The obtained results show that efficient ports mainly belong to the western NSR region, with ports like Murmansk and Varandei consistently demonstrating high efficiency and constant returns to scale. Several ports, such as Onega, Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar, and Khatanga, showed inefficiencies in the utilization of berths and quay lengths. The findings not only contribute to academic knowledge but also offer practical implications for NSR port authorities, assisting them in making well-informed decisions regarding infrastructure development plans.
