  • In order to provide basic information to help dental medical service with supplying gratifying service for patients. the survey is conducted on the patients who frequently visited dental clinics located in the areas such as Seoul, Kyoungi, and Incheon from May of 2006 to June. The survey results are as following : 1. Judged from the factors to make patients choose one dental clinic over another. the low cost of treatment accounts for 32.8%. and followed by physician's academic background / career experiences with 20.5%. In case of recommending to their acquaintances, physician's proficiency in treatment is ranked high as 56.7%. 2. For most desirable facilities for dental hospitals. the results indicate that cutting-edge medical equipment holds 46.7% and followed by a comfortable waiting room with 32.8%. 3. Examined the questions of what patients are most satisfied with dental clinics. 43.1% of respondents point out kind and detailed explanation. 14.1% also responds to constant care after the treatment. This result suggests that after-care and detailed explanation also play an important role in dental care as well as the treatment itself. 4. For desirable services in the waiting room. 28.5% of the respondents choose a selection of magazines and newspaper and 18.7% say that they want to converse with the staff. As to how long can wait with patience. 38.2% of the participants agree on as long as 20 minutes. 5. Among unsatisfactory sources against dental clinics while visiting, the high cost of the treatment is scored high as 34.1% and followed by a long waiting time with 22.1%. The figure points to the fact that dental medical clinics should consider these two factors to solve in the future. In case where patients find the treatment discontent and they are asked what to do, 36.4% of the respondents respond that they go to a different hospital without saying anything. As to the enquiry about how the complains should be dealt, 46.% wishes that the matter should be taken care immediately upon complaining, 21.8% suggests that they like to feel understood and acceptable when presenting complaints.

  • Amid the rapid growth in use of portal news, this study examined whether portal news would substitute traditional news media, in particular newspapers and television news. To answer the research question, this study attempted to investigate how the decrease in use of traditional news media was associated with online news use, reliance on, and motivations for portal news. First, this study found that there was a negative and significant relationship between the Internet use and television news viewing, suggesting that those who are more likely to use the Internet are less likely to watch television news programs. Also, portal news was negatively associated with time spent with newspaper reading, while it was not related to television news viewing. Second, this study found that convenience/information-seeking needs appeared as the major motivations for using portal news, which were negatively and significantly associated with the decreased time spent with watching television news programs. In other words, those who used portal news for convenience/information-seeking needs are less likely to watch television news programs, which may indicate that portal news could be a substitute for television news in terms of convenience/information-seeking motivations. In addition, the result of this study showed that there was a complementary relationship between portal news and newspapers in terms of surveillance needs. Those findings could be explained by the concept of "functional similarity" in the process of media substitution. Based on the findings, implications of this study were discussed.

  • This study explores the ways that newspapers report the administrations' policies of 'university reform' from February 2008 to December 2015 through critical discourse analysis. As results, Donga-ilbo and Chosun-ilbo produce the discourse that the crisis of universities is so real and dangerous that it brings about the crisis of our nation, and that the current university systems should be changed into neoliberal systems because it is the critical reason of the crisis. Using various discursive strategies, they construct their reports as objective, real and embodying general goods and then successfully build the neoliberal discourse on university reform as commonsensical and natural. They finally acquire the discursive hegemony for university reform. Kyunghyang-shinmun and Hankyoreh-shinmun produce the anti-discourse against that of Donga-ilbo and Chosun-ilbo. However, they can not develop substantial hegemony struggles for the discourse of university reform because of the limitations of their discourse in terms of quantity and quality and the social and press structures overwhelmingly inclined for neo-liberalism.

The number of beds and area, two general characteristics of hospitals, had decisive effect on PR activities. Analysis showed hospitals over 1000 beds scored 17.06 point and this group accounted for the highest. Hospitals from 600 to 799 beds scored 2.86, with 800 to 999beds scored 1.93 and with 500 to 599 beds scored 0.59. Along with area, hospitals in Seoul scored 11.50 point, in Kyong-Ki and Incheon scored 1.50 and in the other areas scored -0.23 point. Department for PR and the number of workers in PR activities made hospitals active in PR. Hospitals with PR department scored 7.05 point, without PR department scored 0.98. Hospitals with workers who is whole responsibility over 5 scored 13.67, from 3 to 4 scored 6.54, from 1 to 2 scored 1.02, and the hospitals without workers who is whole responsibility scored 0.53. Among the characteristics related with PR activities, the assignment of a report in individual hospital had significant effect on the outcome of PR. • While a number of studies have recognized the importance of environment of channel systems and consequences of changed environment, only limited studies have dealt with this issue theoretically and practically. The purpose of this study is to empirically validate whether one dimension of environment, called dynamism, has an influence on the relationship characteristics such as transaction specific investment, opportunism and conflict or not; further, it is designed to delve into whether these relationship characteristics have any influence on one crucial relationship quality, 'trust' and its two constituent dimensions - credibility and benevolence. In order to provide empirical validation, a survey was conducted to 163 sales office managers at a major newspaper publisher in Korea. An analysis of the data retrieved from this survey indicated that while environmental dynamism has a positive influence on the publisher's opportunism and conflict perceived by the sales office managers, it did not show a direct influence on the transaction specific investment made by the publisher. Furthermore, while publisher's transaction specific investment had a positive influence on the credibility and the benevolence respectively, publisher's opportunism and level of sales office conflict had a negative influence on the credibility and the benevolence respectively. Currently, a publisher is facing an unprecedentedly dynamic environment. This study should provide ample implications for the publisher in establishing trust, which is a crucial condition in developing and maintaining a long-term successful relationship with its sales offices.

  • The Ministry of Health and Welfare proposed the "undergraduate program specializing in pharmaceutical industry" in 2013, as part of its roadmap to assist domestic pharmaceutical companies to become the top-tier pharma companies in near future and provide skilled personnel tailored for pharmaceutical industry. However, it is not clear whether this "undergraduate program" meets the needs of pharmaceutical industry, especially when the number of pharmacy students increased from 1,200 to 1,700 per year since 2009. The purpose of this paper is to identify which educational background is preferred by pharmaceutical companies, by surveying the CEOs of domestic pharmaceutical companies and referring to recruitment advertisements shown in medical newspapers, specified by the fields within the companies. Two independent reviewers referred to recruitment session in Yakup newspaper and Dailypharm from May 2012 until January 2014, focusing on recruitments from pharmaceutical companies targeting bachelors' degree holders with no prior experience. 749 recruitments were observed during the study period, more than 90% of which were provided by domestic pharmaceutical companies, and regardless of the companies being domestic or multinational, pharmaceutical companies' preference for pharmacists was remarkable (44.3% for domestic and 65.8% for multinational), and the preference was especially high in the fields such as Medical, R&D, Market Access (regulatory affair/pricing and reimbursement), Business Development, and Marketing. Survey results showed that the need of establishing the undergraduate program specializing in pharmaceutical industry is mixed, suggesting that although there is need for the educating personnel targeting pharmaceutical industry, the undergraduate program would not be an answer due to current PEET system. Our study concludes that in the example of pharmaceutical companies' recruitments shown in medical newspapers, pharmaceutical companies prefer pharmacy major in almost all fields of the pharmaceutical companies, yet the pharmaceutical companies still perceive the gap between current bachelor's degree holders(including pharmacy majors) and the ideal personnel required for advancing to the "top-class" pharmaceutical companies.

  • When we extract a representative term from text for information retrieval system or a special information for information retrieval and text milling system, we often need to solve the anaphora resolution problem. The antecedent decision problem of a pronoun is one of the major issues for anaphora resolution. In this paper, we are suggesting a method of deciding an antecedent of the third personal pronouns, such as “he/she/they” to analyze the contents of documents precisely. Generally, the antecedent of the third personal Pronouns seem to be the subject of the current statement or previous statement, and also it occasionally happens more than twice. Based on these characteristics, we have found rules for deciding an antecedent, by investigating a case of being an antecedent from the personal pronouns, which appears in the current statement and the previous statements. Since the heuristic rule differs on the case of the third personal pronouns, we described it as subjective case, objective case, and possessive case based on the case of the pronouns. We collected 300 sentences that include a pronoun from the newspaper articles on political issues. The result of our experiment shows that the recall and precision ratio on deciding the antecedent of the third personal pronouns are 79.0% and 86.8%, respectively.

  • This paper analyzed experientially political conducts of the political players on privitization of healthcare service and public healthcare sercive aftrer the democratization in order to determine the influence of democracy on the development of a welfare state. For this purpose, the contents of the major daily newspaper reports from 1993 to 2012 were analyzed. As a result of such analysis, it was found that the political parties did not drive the policy even after the democratization reflecting the demands of the people, political parties had a strong conservative stance and did not show a consistent ideological inclination in their policies. Second, even though the role of the civic movement in the public healthcare service issue became larger after the democratization, policy decisions were driven by the government in an authoritative manner. In addition, the degree of contribution by the civic movements to the development of public healthcare service did not offset the influence of the president and the finance ministry on the development of privatization. Third, both the development of public healthcare service and privatization progressed simultaneously under the Kim Dae Jung, Rho Mu Hyun and Lee Myung Bak administrations after the democratization and it is thus difficult to argue that the qualitative nature as a welfare state was changed after the democratization. However, the degree of development as a welfare state differed depending on the ideological inclination of the presidents, the capacity of the welfare ministry and the ministry that drove the privatization.
