Boundary Layer Separation Control with Fairing at the Junction of 3D Wings Under Ground Effect (페어링을 이용한 지면효과를 받는 3차원 날개 접합부의 경계층 박리 제어)

  • Aerodynamic characteristics of three-dimensional wings in ground effect for Aero-levitation Electric Vehicle(AEV) are numerically investigated for various fairing shapes at the junctions of 3D Wings. Numerical results show that a sizeable three-dimensional comer flow separation occurs with formation of an arch vortex at the junction of main and vertical wings, and also that this is predicted the main cause of the high lift-to-drag(L/D) reduction rate of the main wing. To avoid the comer flow separation, the main idea of this study is to reduce the cross section gradient of the comer flow tube near the trailing edge for various fairing shapes. Improvements on L/D ratios of the wings are pursued by breaking the coherence of superimposed adverse pressure gradients at the wing junction when the cross section gradient is changed slowly at the trailing edge.

The Study on Changes of Exhaust Efficiency and Fine Particle Concentration at a Ventilation Opening by a Air Curtain Flow in a Subway Model Tunnel (지하철 모사터널에서 에어커튼을 이용한 환기구의 배기효율 및 미세입자 농도 변화 연구)

  • In this study, a new tunnel ventilation method with a high velocity air curtain flow has been investigated for improving the ventilation exhaust efficiency and removing air pollutants in subway tunnels. At upper or lower position right downstream of a main duct connected with a ventilation opening, air curtain flows were suppled into the main duct where the air flow velocity was in the range of 2~6 m/s. Exhaust efficiency was monitored for both cases with and without air curtain flow for different air velocities, locations and injection angles of the air curtain. Particulate matter concentrations (PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0) were also checked at both the main duct and ventilation opening before and after supplying air curtain flows. Lower air velocity of the main duct flow, higher air velocity of the air curtain led to higher exhaust efficiency and the air curtain condition of 30..inclined injection toward the main flow showed the maximum exhaust efficiency. The exhaust efficiency of about 24% without the air curtain could be improved to about 34% after using the air curtain flow. PM concentration decreased at the main duct and increased at the ventilation opening after using the air curtain flow. Therefore, the suggested method to use air curtain flows in tunnels will be probably one of the promising tools to reduce air pollutants in subway tunnels.

  • The numerical analysis and the experiments are carried out to develop the design program for the flow control valve attached to the vane pump for power steering. The factors affecting the flow rate characteristics are analyzed by the experiments and the numerical analysis. The results are summarized as follows; (1) the main factors affecting to the first and second control flow rate are the diameter of big and small rod of the spool. (2) the cut off is mainly affected by the main spring constant, the initial displacement of main spring and the small diameter of the spool. (3) the dropping slope characteristics are decided by the chamfer of spool and the dynamic characteristics of the spool.

  • The flow characteristics of impinging jet flow are affected greatly by nozzle plate to distances. An sharp edge nozzle was used to achieve uniform mean velocity at the nozzle inlet, and its diameter is 10mm(d). Therefore, the flow characteristics on the impinging jet plate can be changed largely by the control of main flow. In the parent study, we investigate the effects of main flow length , its variable is nozle plate to distances( 12d, 10d, 8d, 6d and 4d).

Flow Characteristics of a Side-Weir in Rectangular Channel (구형 수로내 횡월류 흐름의 특성)

  • Flow characteristics occurring a side-weir overflow in rectangular channel is investigated in this study. A numerical model based on the two -dimensional shallow-water equations is employed to review the factors influencing on the side- weir overflow discharge and the change of flow depths and velocities. It is found that the discharge coefficient which has the most significant influence on the overflow is affected by geometric characteristics of a side-weir, Froude number of the main channel flow and the flow depth of the main channel at the starting point of a side-weir. And the discharge coefficient applicable to a practical design of a side-weir is proposed by deriving a relationship between Froude number of the main channel flow at the starting point of a side-weir and Froude number of the main channel flow.

  • Lead alloy is used as coolant in Lead-based cooled Fast Reactor (LFR). The natural characteristics of lead alloy are combined with the simple structural design of LFR. This constitutes the inherent safety characteristics of LFR. The main work of this paper is to take the main coolant pump (MCP) in the lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR) as the research object, and to study the flow pattern distribution of the internal flow field under the reverse rotation pump condition, the reverse rotation positive-flow braking condition and the reverse rotation negative-flow braking condition. In this paper, the double-outlet volute type and the space guide vane are selected as the potential designs of the CLEAR-I MCP. In this paper, the CFD method is used to study the potential reverse accident of the MCP. It is found that the highest flow velocity in the impeller appears at the impeller outlet, and the Q-H curves of the two design programs basically coincide. The space guide vane type MCP has better hydraulic performance under the reverse rotation positive-flow condition, the Q-H curves of the two designs gradually separate with increasing flow rate, and the maximum flow velocity inside the space guide vane type MCP is obviously lower than that of the double-outlet volute type. For the reverse rotation test of MCP, only the condition of the forward rotating pump of the main coolant pump is tested and verified. For the simulation of the MCP in LBE medium, it proved that the turbulence model and basic settings selected in the simulation are reliable.

  • In this study, a numerical analysis was performed to simulate the thermal-hydraulic response of the secondary side of a steam generator(SG) model equipped with an orifice-type SG outlet flow restrictor to a main steam line break(MSLB) at a pressurized water reactor(PWR) plant. The SG analysis model includes the SG upper steam space and the part of the main steam pipe between the SG outlet and the broken pipe end. By comparing the numerical calculation results for the present SG model to those obtained for a simple SG model having no flow restrictor, the effects of the flow restrictor on the thermal-hydraulic response of SG to the MSLB were investigated.

  • The experiment is conducted on the rapidly rotating incompressible flow within a confined cylinder using LDV(Laser Doppler Velocimetry). The configurations of interest are the flows between a rotating upper disk with a bar and a stationary lower disk enclosed within a cylinder. The flow is considered to be an axisymmetric undisturbed basic flow. The results show that the flow is strongly dependent on the radius and the shape of bar but is negligibly affected by the Reynolds number in turbulent flow. It is observed that in the lid-driven case the main forms near the wall as the Reynolds number increases. The thin bar causes the second axial flow due to the suction effect and the thick bar causes the main flow to be pulled toward the surface of the bar. The step bar shows the dual effect of the two. 1:2 tilt bar shows that the main flow distributes wider than the other cases in which interference occurs due step bar.

  • Virtual cyclones have been the subject of aerosol separation studies since they were first developed by Torczynski and Rader (1996). In the virtual cyclone (originally referred to as the anticyclone), the main particle-laden flow follows a wall that curves away from the original flow direction rather than curving into the original direction, as in a cyclone. Although a wall forms the inner boundary of the main flow, its outer boundary is formed by an adjacent flow, often a confined recirculating flow, into which particles are transferred by centrifugal action. Numerical Investigation of Aerodynamic Interference in Complete Helicopter Configurations

  • Unsteady flow simulations of complete helicopter configurations were conducted, and the flow fields and the aerodynamic interferences between the main rotor, fuselage, and tail rotor were investigated. For these simulations, a three-dimensional flow solver based on unstructured meshes was used, coupled with an overset mesh technique to handle relative motion among those components. To validate the flow solver, calculations were made for a UH-60A complete helicopter configuration at high-speed and low-speed forward flight conditions, and the unsteady airloads on the main rotor blade were compared to available flight test data and other calculated results. The results showed that the fuselage changed the rotor inflow distribution in the main rotor blade airloads. Such unsteady vibratory airloads were produced on the fuselage, which were nearly in-phase with the blade passage over the fuselage. The flow solver was then applied to the simulation of a generic complete helicopter configuration at various flight conditions, and the results were compared with those of the CAMRAD-II comprehensive analysis code. It was found that the main rotor blades strongly interact with a pair of disk-vortices at the outer edge of the rotor disk plane, which leads to high pulse airloads on the blade, and these airloads behave differently depending on the specific flight condition.
