Development of the Spark-gap Switch with Dual Trigger System (쌍방향 시동방식의 고속투입스위치 개발)

  • This paper is introducing a newly developed spark-gap switch with dual trigger system, into which the current from the voltage source is injected along with the test sequence during the synthetic testing of high voltage circuit-breaker. The currently-used spark gap switch is narrow in operating range due to the use of the method of triggering energy being injected by single way. As a result, the frequent happening of misoperation has greatly reduced the test quality and test efficiency and has required the cost of maintenance excessively. In this study, accordingly, in order to basically remove these problems, another triggering system is installed to the opposite direction on the existing triggering system; attaching the same time and the same rising time of pulse wave as on the existing system, so that at a comparatively trigger gap distance from the main electrode(the gap can be operated at 60% of self-break voltage, while at 80% in the current system), the main electrode has been enabled to be closed by the development of spark gap switch with dual trigger system.

  • It is indispensable to compensate the switching characteristic variation of circuit breakers in use due to the change of operating conditions in order to get the reliable performance of controlled switching. In this paper the compensation measures against main factors such as temperature, control voltage, idle time and operating number are described. And the performance of the proposed measure is verified through the experimental results.

  • This paper treats A.C. arc movement in a transverse A.C. magnetic field at atmospheric pressure with the purpose of selecting electrode materials and obtaining detailed data for design of A.C. air circuit breaker, plasma accelerator and plasma jet. Arc velocities in transverse magnetic field are measured by varying arc current, arc voltage, gap length, magnetic flux density and the erosion of electrode surface, which influence arc velocities. The main results are; 1)Arc velocities in transverse magnetic field have different values according to electrodes of various materials and decrease in a descending order of cold cathode, medium cathode and hot cathode. 2)Arc velocities in transverse magnetic field increases with arc current, arc voltage, gap length and magnetic flux densith and on the other hand decrease with the increase of electrode surface erosion. 3)D.C.arc velocity in D.C. magnetic field is higher than A.C. arc velocity in A.C. magnetic field of the same value.

  • Because of the environmental matters the importance of the city railroad is as time goes by increasing. The case of obstacle of the power equipment which supplies electric power to city railroad will occur social and economical enormous loss. Thus, I studied on the preventing method in advance which makes it possible for us to maintain facilities efficiently. The main check points of the power facilities are voltage, current, humidity, partial discharge, move current. These points are gathered by sensor and transmitting to data acquisition device. These data are used to check equipment status in real time. In this paper I described in brief test process and results of the detection system.

  • In this study, we calculated arc discharges happened in high-voltage circuit breakers for understanding the complex physics and the probability of thermal breakdown. The four main parts of arc model for this virtual-reality are radiation, PTFE abaltion, Cu evaporation and turbulence. Among these important parts the turbulence model can be critical to the reliability of computation results during high-current period because the plasma flow is affected by high eat energy and mass momentum. Two kinds of turbulence model, zero-equation model and two-equation model, are applied for these calculations and are compared with the measured pressure data inside a chamber.

  • In this study, we calculated arc discharges and flow characteristics driven by arcs in a thermal puffer chamber, which is one of most outstanding high-voltage interrupters, for understanding the complex physics and the probability of thermal breakdown. The four main parts of arc model for this virtual-reality are radiation, PTFE ablation, Cu evaporation, and turbulence. Among these important parts the turbulence model can be critical to the reliability of computation results during the whole arcing history because the plasma flow is affected by high heat energy and mass momentum. Two turbulence models, the Prandtl's mixing length model and the standard $k-\varepsilon$ model, are applied for these calculations and are compared with pressure-rise inside chamber and arc voltage between the contacts as well as flow characteristics near current zero.

  • The high speed line and conventional line are a single-phase AC feeding system; and power supplies of different phases meet at SS(SubStation)s or SP(Sectioning Post)s. These sections should be negotiated with the main circuit breaker in the traction vehicle switched off, whereby the length of the neutral zone prevents the pantographs shunting adjacent overhead line section. In order for electric railway vehicles to make power running there, there must be a power supply changeover section (approx. for 1km), where a changeover switch changes a power supply to the other power supply of a train running direction sequentially. For a thorough changeover switching control, the precise train position detection is necessarily required. In this paper, to realize the ground-based train position detection method, configuration scheme of train position detection equipment is suggested by using track circuit and axle counter.

  • This paper is intended as an investigation of the interface between Neutral section insulators and pantograph interface. Neutral section insulators are installed at the boundary between AC catenary system and DC catenary system, which should provide electrical insolation between two different catenary systems and pass the trains without interruption. As the number of the pantographs installed on the train increased, which is necessary for the VVVF inverter drive trains introduced in recent years, there occurs an serious aspects of the interaction between pantographs and Neutral section insulators. These effects hinder the automatic switch operation of MCB(Main Circuit Breaker) after passing through the section insulators, and lead to the extra-ordinary wear of FRP insulator material of section insulators. Countermeasures in terms of the interface between the Neutral secton insulators and electric collection system of train are provided too.

  • The world's nuclear powered ships have been reviewed mainly based on development of the marine nuclear reactor and the present trends of nuclear warships and merchant ships in the world. In particular, emphasis was on the four nonmilitary nuclear ships, Russian Ice breaker Lenin, American Cargo-passenger ship Savannah, German Ore carrier Otto Hahn, and Japanese Cargo ship Mutsu. They are the only civilian nuclear ships which have entered service at the present time in the world. The nuclear fleets in United States, United Kingdom, Soviet, and France were described in view of historical development and the present stock of the nuclear ships. The present projects and the future trends for the nuclear merchant ships in the main shipbuilding countries have been also discussed. The nuclear fission and reactor were briefly discussed in the beginning of this article.
