  • Components of genetic variation were estimated for five metric traits using 24 biparental progenies (N. C. Design III) generated from F$_2$ generation of a commercial bivoltine silkworm hybrid, SH$_{6}$${\times}$NB$_4$D$_2$. Variance due to additive ($\sigma$$^2$A) and dominance ($\sigma$$^2$D) gene effects was significant for single cocoon weight and shell weight. However, magnitude of former was greater than latter indicating preponderance of additive gene action in the inheritance of these two traits. Average degree of dominance was in the range of partial dominance for all the traits. High estimates of heritability (ns) indicated operation of genes with large additive effects, hence, scope exists for improvement of present populations through a few cycles of selection.n.

  • This study was designed to describe the effect of the protein quality at different intake level of protein on the protein metabolism in the whole body of growing pigs with a simulation model. Varying to the protein level in feeds, four simulations were conducted. The feed protein level, represented as proportions of digestible protein to the metabolic energy (DP/ME, g/MJ), were 6-8, 11-13, 17-19, and 23-25 DP/ME, respectively. Two protein quality and six weeks of growth time were used at each simulation. The objective function for the simulations was protein deposition in the whole body, which was calculated from the experimental results. The parameters in the simulation were determined by the parameter estimation technique. The results obtained from the simulation were as follows: The protein synthesis and breakdown rates(g/day) in the whole body was increased with the increase of protein quality only at lower or required level of protein intake. They showed a parallel behavior in the course of growth, irrespective of quality and level of feed protein intake. The simulated protein deposition and protein synthesis showed a linear relationship between them at different protein quality and level. The affinity parameter showed a linear relationship between them at different protein quality and level. The affinity parameter showed that arginine, tryptophan and isoleucine were more efficient in the stimulation ofbody protein synthesis. Lysine and phenylalanine+tyrosine were less efficient. The oxidation parameter showed that histidine, pheyalanine+tyrosine were less efficient. The oxidation parameter showed that histidine, phenyalanine+tyrosine, and methionine+cystine were oxidized in larger magnitude than lysine and threonine. The oxidation parameter of most amino acids increased with the increase of protein intake beyond the requirement level, but not any more at highest protein intake level. Finally it was found that the improvement of feed protein quality at the lower or required level of protein intake increase protein deposition through a parallel increase of protein synthesis and breakdown.

  • The purpose of this study is to quantify the settling velocities of cohesive sediments from Han estuary and to evaluate their local variation within Han estuary. This study also includes an estimation of their spatial variation, for which the settling velocities of cohesive sediments from Han estuary arecompared with those for sediments from other regions. At the same time, physical-chemical properties, such as grain size distribution, the percentage of organic contents, mineralogical composition etc are measured in this study in order to examine their correlation with settling velocities and their effect on settling velocities. Results from settling tests shaw that the settling velocities of Han estuary mud varies in the range of two orders of magnitude(from 0.01 to 1.5 mm/sec) over the corresponding concentration range of 0.1 to 80 g/L, and a feature of the settling velocity profile is quite different in quantity as compared to those of previous studies for muds from other regions. Particularly in the flocculated settling region, the settling velocity for Han estuary muds is shown to be larger than that of Saemankeum and Keum estuary sediments, while in the hindered settling region all three sediments are shown to have a similar settling velocity. However, local variability of the settling velocities within Han estuary is shown to be insignificant.

  • The implosion phenomena of pressure vessels operating in deep water under extremely high external pressure have been well known. The drastic energy release to ambient field in the form of pressure pulse is accompanied with catastrophic collapse of shell structure. Such a proximity shock wave could be a serious threat to the structural integrity of adjacent submerged body and several suspected accidents have been reported. In this study, basic research for the occurrence and development of shock wave due to implosion was carried out. The mechanism of pressure pulse generation and energy dissipation were investigated, and a simplified kinematic model to approximate the collapse modes of circular tubes which can be generated by external pressure and implosion was examined. Using the simplified kinematic model, the process of energy dissipation was formulated, and the magnitude of released pressure shock wave was estimated quantitatively. To investigate the validity of developed kinematic model and shock wave estimation process, the results from a nonlinear FE analysis code and collapse test carried out using pressure chamber were compared with the results from the developed kinematic model.

  • This study aims to determine the role of innovative capabilities as a mediator in analyzing entrepreneurial marketing's effect on sustainable competitive advantage in food and beverage micro-, small-, and medium- enterprises (MSMEs). Data was obtained from a food and beverage store manager in Tangerang City, comprising 119 samples. Furthermore, the G⁎Power, a tool used to calculate statistical power analysis for various t-tests, F tests, χ2 tests, z tests, and several exact tests, was used to determine the number of research samples, the α error probability of 5%, and 3 variables. The data collection method used questionnaires with Likert Scale 1-5 to indicate strongly disagree to strongly agree. To analyze data, we used Path Analysis supported by SmartPLS statistics software. Path analysis is a form of multiple regression statistical analysis that is used to evaluate causal models by examining the relationships between a dependent variable and two or more independent variables. It aims to provide estimates of the magnitude and significance of hypothesized causal connections between sets of variables. The data processing process took place in two stages, namely the estimation model testing with validity and reliability, and the structural model testing to decide the impact or correlation between variables utilizing the t-test. The result showed a positive and significant effect of entrepreneurial marketing to innovative capability and competitive advantage through the innovative capability of MSMEs.

  • Among various implementation techniques of recommender systems, collaborative filtering selects nearest neighbors with high similarity based on past rating history, recommends products preferred by them, and has been successfully utilized by many commercial sites. Accurate estimation of similarity is an important factor that determines performance of the system. Various similarity measures have been developed, which are mostly based on integrating traditional similarity measures and several indices already developed. This study suggests a similarity measure of a novel approach. It separates the common rating area between two users by the magnitude of ratings, estimates similarity for each subarea, and integrates them with weights. This enables identifying similar subareas and reflecting it onto a final similarity value. Performance evaluation using two open datasets is conducted, resulting in that the proposed outperforms the previous one in terms of prediction accuracy, rank accuracy, and mean average precision especially with the dense dataset. The proposed similarity measure is expected to be utilized in various commercial systems for recommending products more suited to user preference.

  • The magnitude of the roll motion of a floating structure depends on the roll damping acting on the body. In other words, the roll damping of a floating structure must be accurately obtained in order to precisely evaluate the roll motion. Various methods are used to evaluate the roll damping of a floating structure, such as the linear potential theory, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and model tests. However, it is difficult to evaluate the roll motion of a floating structure with appendages such as a bilge keel and riser slot due to the limitation of ignoring the viscous effects in the linear potential theory. Among these methods, a model test based on a free decay test and harmonic excited roll motion (HERM) is known to be the most reliable method to estimate the roll damping of the floating structures. In this study, model tests using free decay and HERM techniques were performed in the Ocean Engineering Basin (OEB) of KRISO with various types of midship sections. The roll damping results were estimated based on post-processing methods using both techniques, and the roll damping results were compared.

  • A suction caisson has been widely used for anchor and foundation of offshore structures due to its broad application, simple installation, and rapid construction. In design of suction caisson foundation, the bearing capacity and the stability of soil are mainly dealt with and analysis methods for them are presented in design codes related to the foundation. On the other hand, the method for structural safety analysis of the suction caisson is not generalized, in particular for load modeling of the caisson under suction. Consequently, there are difficulties in design of the caisson cross section. For this reason, this study analyzed the magnitude and distribution of pore water pressure on inner and outer surface of the caisson using theoretical and numerical seepage analyse, and an approach to reasonably estimate the load applied to the structural analysis of the caisson was presented. Furthermore, effects of penetration depth, anisotropy of permeability, and suction pressure on the pore water pressure were analyzed.

  • Ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) are intriguing in the sense that they are much larger than dwarf galaxies but have much lower surface brightness than normal galaxies. To date, UDGs have been found only in the local universe. Taking advantage of deep and high-resolution HST images, we search for UDGs in massive galaxy clusters in the distant universe. In this work, we present our search results of UDGs in three massive clusters of the Hubble Frontier Fields: Abell 2744 (z=0.308), Abell S1063 (z=0.348), and Abell 370 (z=0.375). These clusters are the most distant and massive among the host systems of known UDGs. The color-magnitude diagrams of these clusters show that UDGs are mainly located in the faint end of the red sequence. This means that most UDGs in these clusters consist of old stars. Interestingly, we found a few blue UDGs, which implies that they had recent star formation. The radial number densities of UDGs clearly decrease in the central region of the clusters in contrast to those of bright galaxies which keep rising. This implies that a large fraction of UDGs in the central region were tidally disrupted. These features are consistent with those of UDGs in nearby galaxy clusters. We estimate the total number of UDGs (N(UDG)) in each cluster. The abundance of UDGs shows a tight relation with the virial masses (M_200) of thier host systems: M_200 \propto N(UDG)^(1.01+/-0.05). This slope is found to be very close to one, indicating that efficiency of UDGs does not significantly depend on the host environments. Furthermore, estimation of dynamical masses of UDGs indicates that most UDGs have dwarf-like masses (M_200 < 10^11 M_Sun), but a few UDGs have $L{\ast}$-like masses (M_200 > 10^11 M_Sun). In summary, UDGs in distant massive clusters are found to be similar to those in the local universe.

  • The first flush phenomenon and the Mass First Flush (MFFn) were analyzed for various rainy events in trunk road. Applicability for estimate MFFn using SWMM was evaluated by comparision with observed MFFn. First flush phenomenon was investigated by normalized cumulated (NCL) curve of every pollutant based on ten times of rainfall events monitoring data from 2008 to 2009. As a result, magnitude of first flush phenomenon varied with the pollutants and rainfall events. First flush phenomenon was detected highly in the trunk road. MFFn was estimated by varying n-value from 10 to 90% on the rainfall events. The n-value increases, MFFn is closed to '1'. As time passed, the rainfall runoff was getting similar to ratio of pollutants accumulation. The result of a measure of the strength of the linear relationship between observed data and expected data under model was good ($R^2$=0.956). As the final outcome, we have good reliability, estimation and application of MFFn using model seem statistically possible.
