  • This paper presents a new approach regarding thermal characteristics associated with a design of the high efficiency motor. Electrical conduction materials, such as coil and aluminum embedded in the core generate high heat exerting negative influence on both lifetime and performance of machine. Thus, it is necessary to design high efficiency motor considering heat transfer in order to improve motor performance and to be protected against overheating. In this paper, firstly, numerical analysis of electromagnetic field is carried out by the nonlinear transient finite element method (FEM). Secondly, the linear static FEA of magneto-thermal field is implemented by applying source current computed by the nonlinear transient analysis. FE results are validated in terms of electromagnetics and heat transfer by experiments. And then, the pseudo-transient topology optimization using a multi-objective function is performed. The proposed method is applied to a squirrel cage single-phase induction motor of the scroll compressor.

  • The torque and unbalanced magnetic forces in permanent magnet machines are resultants of the tangential, axial and normal magnetic forces, respectively. Those are in general influenced by pole-teeth-winding configuration. A study of the torque and unbalanced magnetic forces of a small flux concentrating permanent magnet transverse flux machine (FCPM-TFM) in segmented compact structure is presented in this paper. By using FLUX3D software from Cedrat, Maxwell stress tensor has been solved. Finite element (FE-) magneto static study followed by transient analysis has been conducted to investigate the influence of unsymmetrical winding pattern, in respect to the rotor, on the performance of the FCPM-TFM. Calculating the magnetic field components in the air gap has required an introduction of a 2D grid in the middle of the air gap, whereby good estimations of the forces are obtained. In this machine, the axial magnetic forces reveal relatively higher amplitudes compared to the normal forces. Practical results of a prototype motor are demonstrated through the analysis.

  • We in this paper study nonlinear bending of a functionally graded porous nanobeam subjected to multiple physical load based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. For more reasonable analysis of nanobeams made of porous functionally graded magneto-thermo-electro-elastic materials (PFGMTEEMs), both constituent materials and the porosity appear gradient distribution in the present expression of effective material properties, which is much more suitable to the actual compared with the conventional expression of effective material properties. Besides the displacement function regarding physical neutral surface is introduced to analyze mechanical behaviors of beams made of FGMs. Then we derive nonlinear governing equations of PFGMTEEMs beams using the principle of Hamilton. To obtain analytical solutions, a two-step perturbation method is developed in nonuniform electric field and magnetic field, and then we use it to solve nonlinear equations. Finally, the analytical solutions are utilized to perform a parametric analysis, where the effect of various physical parameters on static bending deformation of nanobeams are studied in detail, such as the nonlocal parameter, strain gradient parameter, the ratio of nonlocal parameter to strain gradient parameter, porosity volume fraction, material volume fraction index, temperature, initial magnetic potentials and external electric potentials.

  • The APU(Auxiliary Power Unit) needs a set of complex pipeline for the fuel supply system where some of the main valves controlling the flow rate consist of the servo valve worked with a torque motor. The input electric current produces an induced magnetic field almost perpendicular to the background magnetic filed generated by fixed permanent magnets. The induced torque deforms the tubular bushing, and directly rotates an armature, which can open and close the valve. In this study, we start from a basic analytic model using a simple electro-magneto-statics, and expand our model to the three-dimensional one computationally applying a commercial code named COMSOL. The result is compared with each other, and reasonable numerical data are obtained for the dynamic behavior and multi-physics system.

  • This paper studied on the influence of naval vessel shape on vertical magnetic field after the vessel was demagnetized. The triangular shape, the rectangular shape and circular shape were adaped from vessel's structual drawings. Magneto-static FEM analysis was performed to obtain the iduced magnetic field due to earth magnetic field for those shapes. During demagnetization process, magnetic field of residual magnetization was observed. The holizontal and vertical magnetic field were calculated depending on vertical bias magnetic field through magnetc component seperation. To demagnetize naval vessel ship, demagnetizing coils shoud be wound more finely in the vow and stern of the ship than it should be in the mid-part of the ship.
